Tele Bärn: Patrick Teuscher becomes new program director

Patrick Teuscher will take over as program director of Tele Bärn at the beginning of March 2010. He partially replaces Marc Friedli, who will move to regional broadcaster Tele M1 as managing director in January.

The journalist and TV specialist already worked for the Bern regional TV station from 1995 to 1997. Most recently as Deputy Head of News and Head of the "Innovations" magazine. From 1997 to 2009, Patrick Teuscher served as deputy editor-in-chief, topic inputter and producer of Cash TV. Teuscher's last position was as Project Manager Video at the Keystone picture agency.
Teuscher partially replaces the function of Marc Friedli, who will move to regional broadcaster Tele M1 as Managing Director in January. Marc Friedli's previous function, as Head of Audiovisual Media at Espace Media, will no longer continue in this form. Patrick Teuscher, as Head of Programming TeleBärn, Nik Eugster, as Head of Programming Capital FM and Sandro Bürgi, as Head of Advertising Market AV Media form the new management body of Espace Media's audiovisual media. All three report directly to Ueli Eckstein, Head of Espace Media.

Pepper takes over media work for "Das Zelt"

Pepper is now supporting «Das Zelt» with its media relations. The Bern-based agency handles media mailings for the Swiss traveling theater company, plans media events, and advises the company on PR matters.

Pepper is thus further expanding its event communication activities, according to a press release. Customers already include the Bea Spring Fair, the Wohn-Raum trade fair, the Swiss Economic Forum, the Swiss Innovation Forum and the Climate Forum.

Comcast acquires 51 percent of NBC from GE

In the USA, cable operator Comcast takes control of media group NBC Universal in a deal worth billions. Comcast takes over 51 percent from General Electric (GE).

The rest will remain with the conglomerate. Comcast is paying around 6.5 billion dollars in cash to General Electric and is contributing parts of the company worth 7.25 billion dollars, as the two companies announced on Thursday according to SDA. Comcast had already tried unsuccessfully five years ago to take over the Walt Disney Group for 54 billion dollars in order to strengthen its business as a cable provider through content.
Vivendi consent was a prerequisite
With Universal, the company is now acquiring one of the leading Hollywood studios and NBC's TV network - the value of the group is estimated at around 30 billion dollars. Comcast itself already owns several television channels, including Style Network, Golf Channel and E! Entertainment Television. The deal was subject to the approval of the French Vivendi Group. Vivendi held 20 percent of NBC Universal and has now sold this to GE for 5.8 billion dollars, as it announced in Paris.
No large-scale redundancies planned
After details emerged a few days ago, experts had expected a decision to be made soon. GE CEO Geoffrey Immelt himself traveled to Paris last week to convince Vivendi CEO Jean-Bernard Levy of the deal. Until the very end, there had been disputes about how much GE would pay for the complete takeover of NBC and when the money would flow. Vivendi wants to simplify its structure with the separation from NBC. It will also free up money to drive expansion in emerging markets.
NBC is to become the centerpiece of the joint venture between GE and Comcast. Talks have been underway since the spring, Comcast CEO Brian Roberts told CNBC. It is not expected that there will be any large-scale redundancies.

Transformer: SBB campaign conjured up out of thin air

The Transformer agency carried out a regional information and awareness campaign for SBB.

The overcrowded S-Bahn trains at rush hour are well known to many public transport commuters. What is less well known is that there are alternatives with free seats on many routes. These are now the subject of a regional information and awareness-raising campaign by Transformer: posters and advertisements refer to a booklet with all the alternative options and other useful tips.

The Suvaliv campaign also trumps in the Uniqueness criterion, followed by the Sujet IV of the Invalidity Insurance by Saatchi & Saatchi and the ad for Hakle by JWT+H+F. In the Brand Fit criterion, the campaign for St. Moritz by Prime Communications is just ahead of Suvaliv and the Emmentaler AOC campaign. Sale of "Monte Carlo" concession to "Energy" meets with criticism

The planned sale of Radio Monte Carlo’s radio license in the city of Zurich to Radio Energy has drawn criticism not only from the cantonal government. The Zurich City Council, as well as Radio 1, Radio Zürisee, and Radio LoRa, also oppose the deal.

According to SDA, the comments in the hearing procedure of the Federal Office of Communications Bakom demand a new invitation to tender for the FM license for the Zurich region. If the license transfer is approved, it must at least be ensured that Radio Energy broadcasts a program of the same quality as the RMC concept.
After Ringier's Radio Energy station came away empty-handed in the awarding of FM licenses for the larger Zurich-Glarus region and all appeals against the licensing decision were rejected, Ringier bought the smaller Zurich license for Energy awarded to RMC from Giuseppe Scaglione's Music Frist Network.
Roger Schawinski's Radio 1 criticizes above all Bakom and the former award of the license to RMC. With the sale of the Energy concession, the criterion of media diversity is also affected, writes Schawinski. According to Radio Zürisee, the trade in the concession creates a distortion of competition. If Bakom now nevertheless agrees to the transfer, it must ensure that Energy is not allowed to continue broadcasting on the current frequency. According to Radio LoRa, the license would have to expire if it is not used by the applicant. The association for critical media use Arbus Switzerland also holds this opinion.
The SRG, on the other hand, has no objections to the license transmission. However, it expects Ringier's publishing house to broadcast a program on DAB even if it receives an FM license.

A successful media presence is no coincidence
Professional media work is the basis for communicating messages in the media. One success factor for this is maintaining media contacts through targeted address management. With MediaContact, PR and communication managers can manage their media relations efficiently and contact journalists and the media in a targeted manner. Times of crisis often require PR and communication managers to work the market more intensively and therefore also to intensify their public relations work. Time is usually of the essence and quick action is required. In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it is often forgotten that the research work required to find the right target contacts for a media release is demanding and time-consuming. However, reaching the right media and the relevant contacts is one of the success factors for a successful media presence.
MediaContact - quick and easy
With the new MediaContact online work platform, it is now possible to manage and maintain media relations without a great deal of effort. MediaContact combines two professional modules: the journalist database as the basis for planning and creating individual media contact distribution lists and the contact manager for simple message distribution.
MediaContact is a reliable tool for efficient address management and for the creation and further development of a personal address database. The work platform currently contains more than 2,900 addresses of Swiss media and over 7,000 contacts of Swiss editorial offices and media professionals. Each individual media contact can be supplemented with personal details. The personal additions cannot be viewed by third parties.
One click on the right contact
The high-quality address database is continuously updated by ARGUS. Depending on the importance and circulation of the medium, different updating rhythms are applied. Major daily newspapers are checked monthly. ARGUS relies exclusively on the contact addresses published by the media themselves to obtain media contact data.
The journalist database has a user-friendly interface. The navigation guides the user intuitively through the program. All functions are quick and easy to use. Address updates and contact mutations are clearly displayed. Searches and selections of relevant target contacts can be carried out with little effort. Once a distribution list has been created, it can be modified at any time. The contact manager makes it possible to send the created campaign electronically to the selected media and journalists.
Support with writing
In addition to professional address management, the quality of the actual press release itself is crucial for a promising media presence. Successful public relations work depends on serving the media according to journalistic criteria. The press release should be prepared in such a way that it hardly needs to be edited by the journalists. The ARGUS language services team is therefore also on hand to assist clients with the editing of press releases. For the ARGUS language specialists, proximity to the media is a professional added value from which customers benefit in full. In the case of multilingual communication, the ARGUS language specialists also provide the translation, which speeds up the preparation process for communication campaigns enormously.
ARGUS MediaContact
MediaContact is an interactive online work platform with an address database and contact manager for professional media work. The address database contains over 7,000 media contacts, which can be supplemented with external addresses. The software supports PR and communication managers in their search for target media and relevant journalists and in the creation of press distribution lists. The additional Contact Manager module enables press releases to be sent out efficiently. The price: annual contracts with all functions at a fixed price, including an unlimited number of users, an unlimited number of mailings, data and program updates, telephone helpdesk, software provision and installation.

New styling for Swiss families

KünzlerBachmann Publishing has a soft spot for children—and for their parents. Among other things, it publishes the free family guides *Werdendes Leben* and *Unser Baby*. The accompanying website, Swissfamily.ch, will get a fresh new look for the New Year.

Swissfamily.ch is the portal for the family media of the KünzlerBachmann publishing house. Under this umbrella are the two free guidebooks Unser Baby (Our Baby) and Werdendes Leben (Becoming Life) as well as the subscription magazine Kidy swissfamily - the other family magazine. The website offers information on pregnancy, birth, childhood and family, how to get started with the magazines, and an order function. Previously, the topics were divided into eight different sections, and the homepage enticed and confused with quite a few topic teasers.
User in focus
The new website, which will go live on January 1 of next year, is all about clarity: the topic areas are more clearly structured, the search function has been improved and a large address database for families has been set up. Planning a weekend trip or looking for a doctor will thus be child's play. Regular competitions with attractive prizes make the website even more attractive.
Parents in conversation
However, the publishing house not only wants to inform the readers of its magazines, but also seeks dialog with them. In addition, users of the website should be able to get in touch with each other. In the forum, they have the opportunity to initiate topics themselves, to join in the discussion and to exchange ideas. They can also create their own Internet pages, for which the publisher provides around 500 images. The self-designed pages can be made accessible either to a clearly defined user group or to all users. For young parents in particular, this is an attractive way of recording the development of their offspring from the very first step and sharing it with their grandparents or sisters overseas.
