Serranetga: Fake friend rejection on Facebook

"Red Ribbon NOW!" is the name of the campaign by the Swiss AIDS Federation, which was conceived by the digital agency Serranetga and the advertisers at TBWA and has been causing a stir since World AIDS Day on December 1, 2009. Thousands of Facebook users are supporting the campaign against discrimination against HIV-positive people by shaking up their Facebook friends with fake friend cancellations.

In three days, over twenty thousand people have already experienced first-hand what it means to be ostracized and lose friends. The campaign shows the various facets of viral advertising options that open up in social communities - provided that advertisers observe the "laws" of social networks, according to a statement from the agency. According to Remo Prinz, Partner at Serranetga, good social community advertising is not obviously perceived as advertising, because the fact that users are involved as personal brand ambassadors in their peer groups increases the credibility and acceptance of this form of brand communication among recipients.
Serranetga was founded in the fall of 2008 by partners Martin Widmer, Remo Prinz and
Raphael Oppenheim founded the company. The three founders previously worked for the Swiss-American IPTV start-up Zattoo, where they were responsible for advertising marketing and the development of new advertising products and formats, among other things. Over the past year, the young digital agency has developed into a specialist for viral marketing concepts on Facebook. Serranetga not only measures the efficiency of the advertising media, but also the number of advertising messages that spread virally via the so-called "news feeds". According to Remo Prinz, this makes it possible to show the added value of the advertising funds invested, which are generated by the virality of Facebook marketing concepts. The company currently employs nine people.

Reporters Without Borders: "Journalist of the Year 2009" comes from Israel

The organization Reporters Without Borders has honored Israeli reporter Amira Hass as a «Journalist Without Borders.» The award in the «Media Outlet of the Year» category went to the Chechen magazine Dosh.

Hass works for the Haaretz newspaper and received the prize primarily for her reports during the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip at the turn of the year 2008/09, according to Reporters Without Borders. Hass is the only Israeli journalist living and working in the Palestinian territories. The daughter of Holocaust survivors, she writes about everyday life, the effects of Israeli policy and the autonomous territories, as well as about the Palestinian administration.
The magazine Dosh, which was also honored, is one of the few independent media outlets that report on current events and developments in Chechnya and the other Caucasus republics. Following threats, the editorial team had to move its headquarters from Grozny to Moscow. However, Dosh has managed to continue its work thanks to a large network of correspondents in the Caucasus region, writes Reporters Without Borders. For years, the magazine has been regarded as a reliable source of news in a region where there is a particularly low density and diversity of media.

Last but not least: When things don't work out

We've all had things that just don't seem to work out sometimes. The Icelandic supermarket chain 10-11, however, is definitely not one of them.

We tear, use force, muddle, try with a lot of feeling, tug, scream, don't let on, curse the whole world, get red heads, think positively, tremble, blanch, and sometimes we even pray - when it just won't work. There are many potential corpus delicti: Umbrellas, bras, gifts or parking garage barriers - and unfortunately, the parachute is one of them. But the Icelandic supermarket chain 10-11 is definitely not - because it's always open. If you can find the door.
The commercial was created by the Icelandic agency The Vatican Advertising agency, Gardabaer. It was directed by Arni Zúri Jónsson.

My Space Music has reached Europe

The social networking community My Space and its in-house music service My Space Music also landed in Europe, more precisely in the UK, on Thursday.

After the service, which allows users free and unlimited use of music streams, was launched in the USA over a year ago, the launch date was repeatedly postponed due to licensing disputes between the news corp platform and the music industry's copyright administrators. "My Space Music is designed to be a one-stop shop for music lovers to discover new music and connect with their favorite artists," MySpace Music President Courtney Holt told the Guardian. Users can also watch videos, purchase songs via iTunes or listen to special playlists created by musicians. The repertoire also includes a database with current concert and event dates and a charts section, in which the hit lists from a total of 27 different countries and 22 genres are summarized.
Strong competition in the UK
It remains to be seen whether the online social network will celebrate great success with its music service in Europe. In the USA, where the service has been available since September 2008, the number of unique users has doubled since the launch date. In the UK, however, My Space Music faces strong competition from the streaming websites of Spotify and We7. However, My Space Music boss Holt is relaxed about entering the UK market. "There are only a few places on the web where you can enter the world of music so easily and directly," emphasizes Holt. He does not want to accept the comparison with conventional streaming services. "We're not just providing users with a passive tool for streaming music, we're combining a streaming service with tons of helpful information," says Holt.
It is not yet clear when other European countries, such as Germany, will be able to enjoy My Space Music after the UK. "The service is currently only available in the USA, Australia, New Zealand and the UK. The launch in Germany is dependent on an agreement with GEMA," says Wappmann.
