Corporate Sound wins Red Dot Design Award 2009

This is the first time a Swiss agency has won the international design award in the Sound Design category. The award went to the acoustic brand identity for the MS Sonnenkönigin, designed by the Basel-based agency Corporate Sound.

On the evening of December 9, Peter Philippe Weiss, founder and owner of the Swiss sound branding agency Corporate Sound, had every reason to celebrate. In Essen, he was the first Swiss to receive the Red Dot Design Award in the Sound Design category. The prize was awarded for the acoustic brand identity of the MS Sonnenkönigin designed by the Basel-based company. The team led by sound branding pioneer Weiss created a tailor-made soundscape - a corporate sound - for the luxury event ship. An integral part of this is the sound design of the website, which has now been honored with the award.
The Swiss sound strategists are celebrating the agency's 15th anniversary this week. The Basel agency worked with international network partners for the Sonnenkönigin. Together with the communications agency Silberball from Bregenz, the home port of the Sun Queen, the animation specialists from Boutiq in Zurich and the Austrian web agency Massive Art, a multimedia production was created, which can be viewed on the website www.corporate-sound.com can immerse themselves in.

Republica: Love campaign for BSC Young Boys

During the blockbuster championship match against Basel at the sold-out Stade de Suisse, BSC Young Boys launched its new season ticket campaign. With slogans like „Ich YB Dich,“ the 2010 season ticket is currently being promoted throughout Bern and beyond the canton’s borders.

Having already won the pitch for the management of the two brands BSC Young Boys and Stade de Suisse in late summer, the Bern-based communications agency Republica did not want to stop there. Together with those responsible at Stade de Suisse and the Biel-based creative partner Textatelier.ch, a campaign was developed that could not be more differentiated. With slogans such as "Ich YB Dich", "YB geht durch den Magen" and "Alte YB rostet nicht", the 2010 annual pass is currently being advertised throughout Bern and beyond the canton's borders.
.
The campaign can be seen immediately on posters, flyers, banners, public transport advertising as well as in advertisements, mailings and merchandise articles. It will run until at least November 2010.

News agency DDP buys German AP

A new heavyweight is emerging in the German news market. The Berlin-based agency DDP is taking over the German operations of its competitor, AP. The deal also includes AP's subsidiaries in Switzerland and Austria.

DDP co-owner Martin Vorderwülbecke said on Tuesday that a "mid double-digit million euro amount" would be paid for this. The 110 permanent employees would be taken on, Vorderwülbecke told the Reuters news agency. Both agencies together have 230 editors. The declared aim is to take customers away from market leader DPA. DDP is already in talks with many newspaper publishers. Declining advertising revenues and the migration of readers to the Internet have put many media companies under pressure. In order to reduce costs, some want to manage without DPA. According to Vorderwülbecke, it is precisely these publishers that are to be lured to DDP/AP with lower prices.
The AP is to remain an independent agency with its own profile. As part of the deal, DDP also acquires the license to use all content of the multilingual international AP service, for which around 3,000 journalists work in 250 offices worldwide.

US publishers go online together

Five of the largest American magazine publishers are launching a joint venture to create a shared online newsstand. The publishers involved in the new media platform are Time, Condé Nast, Hearst, and Meredith, as well as Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.

The aim of the digital initiative is to develop a new generation of magazines for mobile and digital devices, the consortium said in a joint statement on Tuesday. In particular, the joint infrastructure is also intended to reduce the costs of the existing online business. In addition to the publishers' publications, the distribution platform will also offer an archive and new advertising opportunities. Customers will also be able to send each other videos and photos. The service is to be launched in the coming weeks. The magazines are responding to the negative trend on the print market, which has continued unabated in the USA this year. By October 2009, 383 magazines had been discontinued there.

Swiss television takes stock

Two months after taking office, SF editor-in-chief Hansruedi Schoch sums up that SF is "doing very well" in terms of journalism. The range of programs is well rounded. There is no need for any major program changes. However, SF intends to do without a major summer series next year.

The summer series "Leben im Réduit" (Life in the Réduit) triggered emotions on a scale that he had not expected, Daniel Pünter, editorial director of "Schweiz aktuell", told the news agency SDA. Around 1,400 articles were published in the media. Next year, SF will forego a major summer series. Instead, "Schweiz aktuell" will report on 100 years of Swiss aviation, the municipal merger in Glarus and will also cover the base tunnel breakthrough.
SF intends to leave the Tagesschau unchanged. It is in good shape and enjoys a high level of credibility, said Thomas Schäppi, who took over as editor-in-chief at the beginning of the year. In the near future, the focus will be on integrating the online service even more closely into the Tagesschau editorial team. The aim is to further expand the online offerings and make them more up-to-date. In future, for example, interviews will be available on the Internet before the main edition of Tagesschau.
For Hansruedi Schoch, there is no question of abandoning surveys in the run-up to referendums - "even if we were way off the mark with the anti-minaret initiative". However, the SRG Editors-in-Chief Conference has learned its lesson from the massive criticism: in future, the survey results will be published more carefully and better commented on.
According to program director Silvia Zwygart, the science show "Einstein" has established itself well. After a difficult start, it is well established with a broad audience and enjoys great acceptance among scientists and experts. The new format is significantly more successful than Menschen, Technik, Wissenschaft (MTW) used to be.

First convergence project: "Every centime counts"
From next Monday, Swiss Television (SF) and Radio DRS will be launching the major fundraising campaign "Every cent counts". A team of three presenters will report on the fundraising campaigns around the clock from a glass box on the Bundesplatz in Bern. The format is the first convergence project implemented by radio and television. The aim of the campaign, based on the Dutch model, is to raise money for the fight against the "forgotten catastrophe" of malaria with the help of Swiss Solidarity, special campaigns and celebrities, program developer Dominik Stroppel Stroppel told the news agency SDA.

Interaction: appearance developed for enjoyment to the power of 10

The shared philosophy of "hospitality for pleasure" has prompted ten Aargau restaurateurs to introduce the Genuss 10 (pleasure to the power of ten) brand. Interaction Communications helped the restaurateurs to make their mark.

The Aarau advertisers have developed a name, logo, a basic website and a brochure. The latter is intended to present the restaurants in an appealing way using a sketchbook.

Responsible for Genuss 10: Managers and hosts of the ten participating restaurants.

Unique: Fastening the safety belt for Vontobel's balance sheet

Unikat created a sleeve for the Vontobel Group as part of its overall campaign. It takes the form of a seatbelt and was attached to this year’s special edition of the business magazine *Bilanz*.

The banner bears the message "Safety pays off" and can be seen around the German-language balance sheet and the French-language balance sheet. The banner is supported and broken up by a two-page advertisement on the front pages and an image advertisement on the inside back page.

Last but not least: Megaposter - when it gets dangerous

The Welti-Furrer parking garage in Zurich is currently exuding an unusual amount of charm. For a short time, lingerie models from the H&M fashion chain are winking down at passersby from the parking garage, which is covered in giant posters. But wait—doesn’t this unnecessarily risk causing car accidents? Due to driver distraction? Remember the giant Tally Weijl poster that was banned in March…

The question is justified; there are certain parallels between the subjects of the two fashion labels. Even the layman will recognize that both are models posing in light clothing. But here's the subtle difference: in the case of the giant poster for the Tally Weijl fashion chain, which was to hang for three weeks in spring on scaffolding near Zurich's Bahnhofplatz, the problem was not the lascivious-looking woman, but the text! This was the only reason why the traffic department felt compelled to intervene. Only simple messages are allowed in such "highly sensitive" places. However, the poster in question would have overwhelmed drivers with a whole EIGHT words. With a large billboard, motorists can be expected to read no more than SEVEN words. Of course, this essential detail has escaped the layman with all the bare skin. Fortunately, there are committees that know what's going on!
