Brugger & Bernhardt: Surprise at the movies for Arche Brockenhaus

For the first time in its 30-year history, the Brockenhaus at Arche Zurich has launched a cinema and online campaign. The concept was developed by copywriter Hans Peter Brugger and art director Frank Bernhardt.

Her idea: if you shop at the Brockenhaus and look around on site, you can not only furnish your home cheaply. There is also the chance to buy a real designer piece, a first edition, a valuable original painting. As happened again recently, when a lucky buyer purchased a Jackson Pollock worth several million dollars for five dollars at the Brockenhaus in San Bernardino, California. The claim "Surprises included" is intended to sum up this advantage of the Brockenhaus. The cinema campaign is designed for the long term and is supported by banner advertising. The first season has just started.

Responsible at the Arche Zürich association: Ernst Haueter (Managing Director, overall responsibility), Kathrin Winzeler (Marketing and Communication), Roger Notter (Head of Arche Brockenhaus). Responsible for creation and production: Hans Peter Brugger (Basel, text and concept), Frank Bernhardt (Continue, Basel, art direction and concept).

SGV bans fee collectors from the premises

The Swiss Trade Association (SGV) is continuing its campaign against device-independent radio and TV license fees. It is calling on its members to bar license fee collectors from their homes. Instructions and a sample letter have been available on the website since Monday.

For several months now, Billag has been asking small and medium-sized businesses across the board to pay reception fees for radio and TV sets. The SGV opposes that SMEs have to pay Billag fees, association director Hans-Ulrich Bigler told the newspaper Sonntag. As it says in the document on the Website the association assumes "that sooner or later SMEs will be completely exempted from paying radio and TV fees, true to the motto that legal entities can neither listen to the radio nor watch TV. At the heart of the letter, which traders can send to Billag - as well as a copy to the Federal Office of Communications (Bakom) - is a ban on all employees and agents of the collection company, in addition to clarification of the reporting obligation issue. There is no legal basis for Billag employees to come into the company and snoop around like detectives, Bigler continued.

Last but not least: Advertising makes children fat

Watching too much TV makes kids fat. Until now, that was as certain as death and taxes. Nonsense! As U.S. researchers have now discovered, watching TV for long periods of time cannot be blamed for children gaining weight. The culprit is inappropriate content—first and foremost, of course, advertising. Advertising for unhealthy food.

As the study shows, hours of commercial-free television or the consumption of DVD films are no guarantee that young viewers will become fat. However, there is a clear correlation between the consumption of commercial television and an increased body mass index (BMI). Children who are exposed to too much commercial television are more likely to suffer from obesity. This is because they are mainly exposed to advertising for sugary breakfast cereals, snacks, fast food and even worse things. The conclusion should be clear: an advertising ban is needed. Or even better, or much more effective: sweets and other fattening foods should be banned altogether!

Publicis: New global campaign for UBS

UBS is currently having the agency Publicis develop a new global advertising campaign. The campaign is set to launch in June, convey the new UBS identity, and boost the major bank's brand value once again.

A 20-strong Publicis creative team, led from London and supported from New York and Zurich, is currently working on the new global umbrella campaign, as the business magazine Bilanz reports. The new advertising presence is intended to combine self-confidence and modesty, but not to promise too much. In contrast to the previous "You & Us" campaign, which was also developed by the agency, the aim this time is not to advertise nationwide. In addition to Switzerland and the USA, the bank wants to concentrate primarily on the major European markets. While the previous campaign cost CHF 110 million per year at its peak, the amount is now likely to be around CHF 50 million, according to the balance sheet.

Antalis: Environmental impact of papers and services disclosed

The paper wholesaler Antalis is now offering life cycle assessed products and logistics services. LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) profiles record the environmental impact of papers and services beyond the CO2 footprint.

The first LCA profiles for 14 graphic and office papers are available at Greenpaper.ch ready for retrieval. The entire life cycle of the paper is considered, from production and the use phase through to disposal of the product and the associated logistics processes. The environmental impacts are documented in detail, from rail transport to journeys made by company vehicles. This assessment also includes external electricity consumption during paper production, which is not fully taken into account in the paper profiles that have been standard in the industry to date.
The LCA profiles show the determined air and water emissions of the papers over the entire life cycle. In addition to CO2, nitrogen oxides (NOX) and sulphur dioxide (SO2), the other key parameters of Switzerland's clean air efforts, are also recorded. The LCA profiles are validated by the certification company SGS.

Iran: International organizations demand release of journalists

Six international organizations have sent an open letter to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In it, they call on Iran's supreme leader to release at least 60 imprisoned writers, journalists, and bloggers.

They are "still behind bars in violation of the protection guaranteed by the constitution of the Iranian Islamic Republic and international law", wrote Reporters Without Borders, the writers' association Pen International and four other associations of journalists in the letter. This is the "largest number" of journalists in the world to be imprisoned in one fell swoop for more than a decade, the letter, which was made available to the AFP news agency on Sunday, added.
The signatories recalled that the Iranian revolutionary leader Khomeini had promised a "society of freedom". The leadership in Tehran must now keep these promises and the guarantees of the Iranian constitution. It must release all writers, journalists and bloggers who are currently behind bars for expressing their opinions and publishing information.

Internet TV: 10,000 Alinghi fans followed the race online

On Friday, approximately 10,000 viewers watched Alinghi’s defeat by BMW Oracle on InternetTV.ch. The Swiss web TV portal broadcast the first race of the 33rd America’s Cup live as the official web TV partner of the Swiss sports television network SSF.

In terms of reach and viewing time, the web TV viewer figures exceed all sports events previously broadcast live on InternetTV.ch, as the provider writes in a press release. This is proof that the importance of Internet television is growing rapidly.
