CCI Media wins Red Bull mandate

CCI Media has been commissioned by Red Bull Switzerland to market the Jungfrau Relay.

Over 500 kilometers, spread over 14 stages, the participants will carry the ribbon of their team through Switzerland: from the Rhine Falls over the Alps to Valais and back to Zurich. The race starts on June 5, 2010 at the Rhine Falls. The ribbons will be carried on racing bikes to Dübendorf and on board historic airplanes to the Jungfraujoch. Skiers, glacier runners and mountain runners will take the relay over the Aletsch Glacier to the Eggishorn, while paragliders and downhill bikers will shoot down into the valley to Fiesch within a few minutes. Historic motorcycles, modern kayaks and racing cars from the pre-war era travel down the Rhone. The flying vintage cars bring the race back to the north side of the Alps.
The Red Bull mandate is the third new mandate that the agency has acquired in 2010. Today, CCI Media also manages and markets the Swiss Sailing Team, the Patrouille des Glaciers, Special Olympics, the Bergdorf-EM 2012, the Ottmar Hitzfeld GsponArena, Eurosport, the FIA WTCC, the IRC, Media Mountain, Moving Ads as well as the Swatch SnowParks and the Swatch Bike Parks.

Swisscom increases profit by almost 10 percent

Swisscom posted higher profits in 2009 despite a decline in revenue. The telecommunications group's net income rose by 9.9 percent to 1.9 billion Swiss francs.

This is 9% more than in the previous year and is in line with analysts' expectations. Excluding special effects, profit was on a par with the previous year. Sales fell by 1.6 percent to 12 billion Swiss francs. A sharper decline in sales was prevented thanks to the Italian subsidiary Fastweb.
The number of cell phone customers increased by 4.5% year-on-year to 5.6 million. Swisscom sold 258,000 iPhones, 109,000 of which in the final quarter alone. The number of broadband customers increased by 2.7% to 1.8 million. Swisscom TV almost doubled the number of customers to 230,000.
The number of employees was reduced by 0.7 percent to 15,995 full-time positions. The Group, headed by Carsten Schloter, continues to forecast a decline in Swiss business for 2010. The reasons for this are the continuing high competitive pressure, unbundling and flattening growth in the mobile and broadband market.

Mercedes with a new slogan

Mercedes has a new slogan that comes from the collection of maxims by the late Gottlieb Daimler.

The new slogan is "The best or nothing". This was revealed by Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche to Manager Magazin (Friday issue), as reported by the information service New Business. The new slogan comes from the old Gottlieb Daimler's collection of maxims. According to information from New Business, the Mercedes agency Jung von Matt, which had entered the race with the proposal "Mercedes-Benz - a promise", did not succeed.

Thurgau cantonal parliament does not want a tax deduction for daily newspapers

In Thurgau, the cost of a newspaper subscription cannot be deducted from tax in future either. On Wednesday, the Grand Council rejected a corresponding motion by Andrea Vonlanthen (SVP) by 93 votes to 10.

With the tax deduction, the motion author argued for indirect press promotion and better information for citizens. However, the parliamentary group spokespersons from all parties spoke out against it. He only found support for his request from a minority of the CVP-GLP parliamentary group.
The government had already rejected this in its response to the motion because the federal tax harmonization law prohibits this. Furthermore, the problems of newspaper publishers could not be solved by tax deductions of a few francs from their subscribers. Non-readers could hardly be persuaded to subscribe to a newspaper.

Singapore Airlines plans another campaign - at its own risk

Singapore Airlines published advertisements for the first flight from Zurich to Singapore in Blick on Tuesday - without a definitive take-off permit for the A380. A large-scale campaign is also already being planned.

We have already received a provisional A380 permit from the Federal Office of Civil Aviation FOCA, but we are fully aware of the risk, said Christina Hollenweger, media spokeswoman for Singapore Airlines, on request. A large poster campaign is now planned on 250 APG poster sites in the largest Swiss cities, as well as e-board advertising at the largest railroad stations and a larger online presence on various online sites from mid-February to the beginning of April.

Last but not least: The flood of spam on the Internet

We’re all familiar with them: the promotional emails for MensHealth pills and surgeries, the promises of huge discounts, and the flood of other spam emails from people like Mandy and Elena. But this flood not only obscures important messages—it’s also costly.

As the industry association Bitkom reported on Sunday, citing a survey by the European Internet Security Agency Enisa, 95 percent of all emails sent are spam. In other words: useless, annoying garbage, which is usually combated by large mail providers through so-called blacklisting. According to the Enisa study, 90 percent of all providers check whether the sender is a known spammer before delivering the mail. According to the study, one in three of the major mail providers spends around one million euros a year in the fight against this unwanted electronic mail. One million euros to fight spam. Apart from that, spam causes the same amount of greenhouse gas emissions each year as 3.1 million cars. Will the new Roadster advertising slogan soon be "Better to drive than surf the Internet"?

Philips launches social media campaign

Philips announced a partnership with the film production company Ridley Scott Associates (RSA) today, Wednesday. Together, they are launching the "Parallel Lines" project—a campaign that will be driven primarily through social media.

Parallel Lines is part of a new international campaign to promote the unique home theater experience with Philips TVs, according to the official Philips blog. A common theme was set for a short film and the five most innovative films were selected from 45 submissions. The films were shot around the world in Uruguay, London, Moscow, China and South Africa and cover the film genres of drama, action, animation, science fiction and thriller.
The declared aim of the campaign is to inspire film fans and generate attention for the "Ambiplayer" media player. Parallel Lines is accompanied by an interactive campaign with a strong focus on social media. A specially created Facebook page has already been set up where fans can be the first to find out all the latest news about the films and gain access to exclusive interviews with the directors as well as background information and clips.
The project is being implemented by the agencies: DDB, Tribal DDB, Unit 9, Carat and the Omnicom agency network OneVoice, responsible for PR.
The five contributions will only be available online from April 08, 2010 on Philips.com/cinema to see. The films will be shown with the "Ambiplayer". A trailer for the films will be published on the Facebook fan page on February 26. On April 7, targeted Facebook banners will be set up in over ten countries. All those who go to the fan page and register will get the chance to watch the films in full length one day before the actual release.

200 posters for the ADC Young Creatives Award

No winner was announced in the Posters category at the 2009 ADC Young Creatives Award, as the jury felt the ideas were not strong enough in terms of copy. Since APG, as a sponsor of the ADC Young Creatives Award, publishes the best poster design on 200 billboards, the jury decided to feature one of these designs on the billboards with a new headline.

The judging of the ADC Young Creatives Award, in which 75 works by renowned creatives were evaluated, took place in October 2009. The brief: advertise McDonald's "Good and Cheap" line. The result: two winners in the film category, one winner in the alternative media category and no winner in the poster category. This is because the jury found that although there were good ideas in the posters category, they were not enough in terms of text.
One work in particular stood out, which - with a better headline - would have been a winner. And because APG, as sponsor of the ADC Young Creatives Award, publishes the best poster work in 200 places, the jury decided to put this work on the billboards with a new headline. Here it is, the work by Julien de Preux and Michael Rieder, which can be seen this week and next in and around Zurich.

New sponsorship for radio toxic.fm

The radio station toxic.fm is getting a new operating entity. The Radio HerzSchlag Foundation is becoming RSS Radioschule Schweiz. The St. Gallen-based training radio station will also be moving into new studios near Radio FM1 at the end of March.

The transformation of the foundation into a public limited company will give education even more weight and further professionalize it, as toxic.fm announced on Wednesday. The share capital of RSS is owned 26 percent each by the university and the student body, said André Mösch, Delegate of the Board of Directors, when asked by SDA. The St. Galler Tagblatt, which also owns Radio FM1, holds a 48 percent stake.
After nine years of operation, toxic.fm's studio is bursting at the seams, according to the communiqué. The station is therefore investing in new studios in St.
Gallen-Winkeln, right next to Radio FM1. This creates synergies in technology and administration.
Young media enthusiasts create the toxic.fm program under the guidance of radio professionals. The next training course starts on July 26, 2010 and lasts one year. After an introductory week, the editors and presenters work one and a half days a week.

Publicis targets sales growth in 2010

Publicis believes the worst of the economic crisis is behind it as it heads into the new year. The world's third-largest advertising group is aiming for revenue growth again in 2010.

A steady improvement in the situation has been noticeable since last summer and this trend continued in January, the French company explained on Wednesday. In the final quarter of 2009, the advertising agency won new clients such as the US car manufacturer Chrysler and the British insurer Aviva. According to SDA, the agency booked new orders worth six billion dollars.
Nevertheless, turnover fell by 5.4% to 1.3 billion euros after a decline of 7.4% in the third quarter. Profit for the year as a whole fell by just under ten percent to 403 million euros.
While Europe presents a very mixed picture, a recovery can be felt in the emerging markets in particular, according to Publicis CEO Maurice Levy. However, the home market of France is developing better than other European countries.

Switched for BaZ as fast as it was sold

After the Hagemann publishing family and Publigroupe sold their stakes in Basler Zeitung Medien to investors Tito Tettamanti and Martin Wagner last week, KSB/SJ collaborated with the BaZ to create four ad designs.

The four motifs appeared last Friday, last Saturday, this Monday and yesterday, Tuesday. They are aimed at the readership with humor and a call for them to show their support for BaZ with their own subscription signature.
This is how the new owners and all BaZ employees celebrated their new future. The fact that the four advertisements repeatedly allude to a well-known Zurich newspaper is pure coincidence, the agency said in a press release.
Responsible at Basler Zeitung: Paul Herzog (Publishing Director). Responsible at KSB/SJ: Uwe Schlupp (creative direction), Mark Stahel (text), Nadia Leisi(graphics and DTP), Christoph Bürge (consulting management), Andrea Walker (consulting), lithography/image processing: Detail AG.
