La Folie lets potential customers pitch

Competitive pitches are a major topic in the communications and events industry. The Zurich-based events agency La Folie is turning the tables for once: it’s letting potential clients pitch to them. The winner receives a free event.

Until 16 April 2010, all interested companies from Switzerland can "apply" with their event marketing project and have the opportunity to win the entire creative and organizational services of the internationally active event marketing agency for handling the submitted project. According to the agency, the value of the prize is approximately CHF 20,000 to 70,000.
La Folie has secured the media relations agency Contcept as a partner for this project. Contcept will expand the prize with its services, for example with celebrity presenters, VIP guests or media relations.
At the end of April, a jury consisting of experts from the event, advertising and media industries will evaluate the submitted projects, select the project with the greatest creative challenge and choose the winner.

USA: Facebook overtakes Google

Facebook is currently the most-visited website in the United States. This marks the first time the social network has had more visitors than the search engine Google.

This has been reported by various American media. The increased number of visitors is mainly due to the various online games that Facebook has recently started offering on its website. The game Farmville, for example, is played by more than 83 million people worldwide. Facebook could make a lot of money with these games, as the majority of users have no problem reaching into their wallets to buy various features for Farmville.
Facebook's market share based on pageviews increased by 185 percent last week compared to the same week in 2009, when the market share increased by only 9 percent. This increase is responsible for the fact that Facebook now accounts for 7.07 percent of all internet traffic in the USA. Google, on the other hand, "only" accounts for 7.03 percent. The figures only refer to the companies' home websites; Gmail, YouTube and Google Maps are not counted.
Facebook has been more popular than Google on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day, but its popularity has never lasted longer than two days at most. Google launched its new Google Buzz service just last month, which is intended to compete with Facebook.

Toblerone repositions itself

The Swiss chocolate brand Toblerone is rebranding. The campaign for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland was created by the Munich-based agency Akom360.

According to Stephan Raif, Managing Director of Akom360, the complicated handling of the packaging and contents was the main reason why consumers left the Tobler on the shelf. These weaknesses are now being turned into strengths, says his partner Achim Kussmaul. With the claim "Einzig. Nicht artig" is aimed primarily at young people who live non-conformist lives and like to reach for a special chocolate.
Headlines such as "Why not try a Swiss man?", "Why not try a love triangle?" or "Why not step out of line?" are intended to support the repositioning in communication. The leading medium for this is the Internet. Prints, guerrilla and PoS advertising are running in parallel. The campaign for Germany, Austria and Switzerland was designed by Akom360. The Munich-based agency won the pitch against the lead agency Ogilvy & Mather in London.
