Thurgauer Zeitung: Peter Hartmeier becomes editor-in-chief

Peter Hartmeier, currently publisher of the Thurgauer Zeitung and former editor-in-chief of the Tagesanzeiger, will take over Ursula Fraefel’s position effective early April and will also become editor-in-chief of the Thurgauer Zeitung. Fraefel will become head of communications at Economiesuisse.

Fraefel will take up her new post at the beginning of May, but will leave TZ at the end of March, as TZ and Economiesuisse announced on Thursday. At Economiesuisse, she will be responsible for communications for the business association in German-speaking Switzerland, as well as being Head of Campaigns and a member of the Executive Board. She succeeds Urs Rellstab, who will become Managing Director of the communications agency Burson-Marstaller. Fraefel also used to work for this agency.
She joined TZ three years ago from the St. Galler Tagblatt. She had been deputy editor-in-chief at the Tagblatt. According to TZ, she has since strengthened the "journalistic and political profile" of the newspaper in Thurgau and stabilized readership figures. Ursula Fraefel replaces Urs Rellstab in this position, who is taking over as CEO of the communications agency Burson-Marsteller in Switzerland.
She studied art history, philosophy and archaeology at the University of Zurich and completed a part-time Executive MBA HSG in General Management at the University of St. Gallen. Pascal Gentinetta, Chairman of the Executive Board of Economiesuisse, is delighted with the appointment to this central function of the umbrella organization of the economy. He is convinced that Ursula Fraefel, with her broad background of experience and as a strategically-minded personality, is an excellent addition to our management team.
Her successor at the head of the TZ editorial team, Peter Hartmeier, had resigned as editor-in-chief of the Tagesanzeiger in 2009 after six years and moved to the Thurgauer Zeitung, which - like the Tages-Anzeiger - belongs to the Tamedia Group, as Chairman of the Board of Directors and publisher.
