Last but not least: More views and insights on Sunday

The Sonntagszeitung lives up to its promise to offer views, insights, and background information that paint a multifaceted picture. In the «Politohr» column, a photo of the former SVP leadership duo, Toni Brunner and Jasmin Hutter, was analyzed and interpreted...

The photograph shows the farewell to SVP Vice President Jasmin Hutter. The imbalance between the two is immediately apparent: Brunner is leaning forward relatively strongly towards Jasmin Hutter, while she is leaning back.

This prompted the newspaper to question the reason given by the party for her resignation - that Hutter wanted to look after her son full-time. It wondered, however, "whether it was not the excessive affection of the party president that led Hutter to resign". Thank you for these views and insights!

Last but not least: spelling fanatics are up to mischief on Twitter

Modern communication is fast. So fast, in fact, that spelling sometimes falls by the wayside. While some people simply overlook or ignore typos or grammatical errors, these mistakes drive others up the wall. On Twitter, there’s now even a “grammar police” that tracks down mistakes and reprimands—or rather, exposes—spelling offenders…

The misdemeanors are collected on websites such as the Twitter Fail Blog. If you have the time and inclination, you can spend hours there amusing yourself about the mishaps in the Twitter world or getting upset about them. The spelling fanatics pursue their goal meticulously: in order to find as many mistakes as possible, one capital letter critic has even written a program that tracks down tweets written entirely in capital letters and scourges them with automatic rebukes. FINALLY SOMETHING USEFUL!

Is the Washington Times being sold?

According to a media report, the financially struggling U.S. newspaper *The Washington Times* is exploring a sale. The daily is in talks with several potential buyers who are either interested in purchasing the paper or entering into a partnership.

The Washington Post reported this on Saturday, citing a statement from a member of the competitor's board of directors. The Washington Times could not initially be reached for comment. The paper closed its sports department at the end of last year. The move was part of a cost-cutting program aimed at reducing the workforce by 40 percent. The conservative newspaper is suffering badly from the decline in advertising revenue in the economic crisis and a dwindling readership.

Tamedia acquires 100 percent of Tilllate

After Tamedia increased its stake in the nightlife platform Tilllate.com to 86 percent in February 2009, the remaining 14 percent has now also been transferred to the media group. In connection with this, Christian Hagmann, managing director of Tilllate Switzerland, is leaving the company at the end of August 2010.

Until a successor is appointed, Thomas Moll, currently Head of Online Development/Projects at Tamedia, will take over the management of Tilllate Switzerland. Christian Hagmann joined the team shortly after the going-out portal was founded in 2000. After Tamedia's first investment step and the reorganization of the management, he took over the management in August 2008.

New logo for SRG

To mark the merger of Radio DRS and Swiss Television (SF) on January 1, 2011, the parent company SRG is adopting a new logo—without the previous tagline «idée suisse.» SRG confirmed a report in the Sonntagsblick.

The "idée Suisse" will only disappear externally, but will remain as a claim for the company, as SRG spokesperson Daniel Steiner explained to the news agency SDA. The new logo will hardly be visible to television viewers and radio listeners. The renaming will have no effect on the names of the individual channels and programs, it said. These would be "adapted within the framework of the usual life cycles of the program brands". According to SRG, the costs of two million francs for the new brand name will be financed by savings of 30 million francs already made in the area of support (including IT, real estate and finance).
With the merger in German-speaking Switzerland, the consolidation of radio, television and online is complete in all language regions. The future name of the German-speaking part of SRG remained unclear on Sunday.
a secret of the company. The various public media channels in French-, Italian- and Romansh-speaking Switzerland had already been merged earlier under the heading of convergence.

Publigroupe: Federal Administrative Court confirms Weko fine

The Federal Administrative Court has upheld the fine of 2.5 million Swiss francs imposed by the Competition Commission (Weko) on the advertising agency Publigroupe. The company will appeal the decision to the Federal Supreme Court.

According to SDA, the Federal Administrative Court initially confirmed the opinion of the Competition Commission that Publigroupe holds a dominant position in the market for the placement and sale of advertisements and advertising space in print media in Switzerland. In this context, the company had discriminated against certain other intermediaries by imposing unjustified commissioning conditions. According to the judges in Bern, it is irrelevant that Publigroupe undertook to change its commissioning practice during the course of the Weko investigation. Publigroupe had argued unsuccessfully in its appeal that the Weko proceedings should have been definitively concluded with the submission of this declaration. There was no longer any scope for imposing sanctions. On the contrary, the fine imposed by the Competition Commission violated the principle of legitimate expectations.
However, according to the Federal Administrative Court, previous anti-competitive behavior must also be punished if there is an amicable agreement for the future. Furthermore, according to the court, the duration of the proceedings and the amount of the fine itself are not objectionable.
Publigroupe appeals judgment to the Federal Supreme Court
The company will appeal the ruling to the Federal Supreme Court, as Publigroupe announced on Friday. Publigroupe also states that the current decision is based on market conditions that existed several years ago. Since then, the media and advertising world has changed fundamentally.
The Competition Commission launched its investigation in 2002. In 2007, the competition authorities came to the conclusion that Publigroupe had wrongly refused to compensate various small companies for advertisements placed. Although, according to Publigroupe, this only affected 3 out of 33 intermediaries, the Competition Commission considered this to be a "serious infringement".

Aargauer Zeitung and Limmattaler Zeitung become 2-Bund newspapers

From Saturday, May 1, 2010, the Aargauer Zeitung and the Limmattaler Zeitung will be published as 2-bundle newspapers. The previous four thinner bundles will become two bundles.

According to a press release issued by AZ Medien on Friday, the new division of the association will enable a clearer structure. The regions will be given a strong weight with their own second bundle, and the regional, journalistic competence and anchoring will also be formally emphasized. The number of departments and editorial pages will remain the same.
The first bundle is dedicated to national and international topics. It contains the opinion page, the topic of the day, domestic, foreign, business, national sport, national culture, special interest (knowledge, life, lifestyle, etc.). The second bundle is devoted to cantonal and regional topics. The front page of the second bundle features the most important topics from the respective region, the canton of Aargau and the canton of Zurich, in line with the Baden/Brugg/Zurzach, Aarau/Lenzburg-Seetal/Wynental-Suhrental, Freiamt or Fricktal and Limmattal editions. This is followed by cantonal topics, regional topics, regional sport and regional culture.
The Solothurner Zeitung, the Basellandschaftliche Zeitung and the Zofinger Tagblatt, which like the Aargauer Zeitung are part of the Mittelland Zeitung network, have already been published as a 2-bundle newspaper for several months and have met with a positive response from readers, according to the press release.

JWT+H+F: TV commercial realized for Priorin

The JWT+H+F agency has produced a TV commercial for Priorin designed to promote a new product for men.

Men who look in the mirror in the morning often take a critical look at their hair. The sparser it sprouts, the greater the resignation. As the advertisers at JWT+H+F found out in a comprehensive market analysis, those affected usually lack the belief that they can do anything at all about hair loss. However, there are now justified grounds for hope: with Priorin LF, Bayer is launching a freely available cosmetic product on the market that stimulates hair growth and actually provides help thanks to the pharmaceutical giant's concentrated scientific expertise.
JWT+H+F has developed the launch campaign for the new product and is focusing on strong emotions in a 30-second commercial. The nightmare of all men is dramatically visualized in an animated sequence. To prevent this nightmare from becoming reality, the benefits of early treatment with Priorin LF are then highlighted. Finally, the claim "Longer friends with your hair" sums up the product benefits in a nutshell. The campaign will be launched throughout Switzerland on May 3 and will include numerous POS measures in addition to the TV commercial.

Responsible at Bayer (Switzerland): Andreas Schönenberger (Country Division Head Consumer Care), Luca De Vito (Head of Marketing Analgesics & Dermatologics), Anita Hilgers (Brand Manager Priorin & Pretuval).
