New industrial magazine for production and manufacturing

AZ Medien will launch the trade publication *smart tech* on February 16. It combines the strengths of the previously independent publications *Megalink*, *Technica*, and *Chemie plus* into a new Swiss industry magazine.

Under the working title Megatech, the creators defined the topics of smart tech in recent weeks. In addition to "Industrial Electronics", "Automation & Drive Technology", "Design & Engineering", "Manufacturing Technology & Materials" and "Process Engineering", the trend topics are "Industry 4.0" and "Internet of Things".

With its interdisciplinary approach, the publication supports Swiss industrial companies in aligning their business models with the needs of the future, according to a statement issued by the media company on Monday. Smart tech is aimed at decision-makers and employees in production, development and management.

The magazine is published ten times a year and pursues a multichannel approach (print, online, social media, events). The first testimony to this is the "1st Swiss Strategy Day Industry 4.0" held on January 12, 2016. The event was a resounding success, with over 200 participants and very positive feedback throughout.

Markus Back is the editor-in-chief responsible for the editorial concept and implementation of smart tech.

Skoda and Switzerland - a love story

The current campaign for Škoda showcases the love story between the dynamic Czech car brand and down-to-earth Switzerland.

"Skoda. Made for Switzerland." The slogan of the current campaign also stands for the strategic direction that was developed eight years ago by DD COM and Skoda. It positions the traditional Czech brand and Switzerland as soul mates who share the same values.

The current campaign "Skoda. Made for Switzerland." puts this love story in the spotlight: the centerpiece is a TV commercial that picks up on typical Swiss clichés and contrasts them with an open, dynamic and life-affirming Switzerland.

The fact that Skoda was able to realize its own commercial for the Swiss market is not a matter of course, according to a statement on Monday. It reflects the Skoda Group's recognition of the successful path that the car brand has taken in Switzerland.

Customized appearances for the various channels have been created, from "blockbusters" for the cinema screen or silent banners to the Microsite.

The campaign starts on February 1 throughout Switzerland.

Broken out beautiful

Just the phrase «plastic injection molding plant» makes the average person’s tongue feel fuzzy and their brain go into a knot. And now there’s even an ad for it?

This breakneck undertaking was brilliantly mastered by the Swiss agency am Flughafen with its B2B advertising campaign for the Swiss plastic injection molding company Lapp Tec; the campaign was part of a complete brand and communication strategy.

The agency at the airport was faced with two challenges when creating this campaign: firstly, to arouse the interest of potential business partners of the injection molding company for a bulky topic, and secondly, to show the variety of products that Lapp Tec manufactures and to position the company with this range of services in the B2B market.

"When we got the order, we thought: Great! We'll take on this challenge! We love the fact that customers trust us time and again to solve complex B2B problems. Where the solution isn't obvious and a bit of halligalli or aesthetics won't help, that's where the intellectual fun begins," says René Eugster, Managing Director of the agency at the airport.

Nothing is too good for ...

The carrier of these messages was a break-out grid, as we all know it from model building, Playmobil or Lego. Break out the parts, put the car together and start playing.

JdW_arbeit

However, the special appeal of these poster subjects lies in the fact that they make the viewer take a closer look. The parts shown here in a grid do not belong to a single figure or object, but together form the portfolio of the advertised company - and the viewer's brain begins to spin the story further: What can be produced by injection molding? Dowels and mice, Lego bricks and cell phone covers, car mirrors and garden hose nozzles? Even my sunglasses? Our clinical thermometer? And what else is depicted? The viewer embarks, voluntarily or involuntarily, on a short journey of discovery through the world of injection molding.

The fact that plastic parts can also be seen, of which even some experts may not know exactly what function they could have, adds to the appeal. The question is the start of the dialog: And now a quick call to Lapp Tec. Maybe they can also inject my special cable entry system ...? The copy text once again emphasizes: Injection moulding is not too bad for anything and can be used for everything. So what are we waiting for?

... and up for anything

The agency at the airport has boiled down an unwieldy topic to its core and injected it into an entertaining form that even appeals to laypeople. "We always try to dramatize complicated, at first glance boring, technical contexts in a simple way. The ad campaign was part of an overall brand and communication strategy for Lapp Tec, which added to the complexity and interconnectedness," says Eugster.

The viewer senses that the creative minds have passionately immersed themselves in this work in order to get the best out of it for their client. And lo and behold: suddenly injection molding is fun. "The collaboration with Lapp Tec is very constructive, as it should be for process-oriented people with a technical background. We will continue to work with Lapp Tec in the future, which makes us at least as happy as the confirmation that our work is also recognized by expert committees," says a delighted René Eugster.

The fact that only plastic parts in Lapp Tec's corporate colors are shown in the two breakout grids is a subtle but important detail. This is because the color harmony of the subjects supports the company's branding and gives the already smart ad subject a clear aesthetic despite its technical content.

Far too good for a B2B campaign. And beautiful when broken out.

The airport agency's B2B campaign was awarded the bronze megaphone at the "Year of Advertising 2016" in Berlin. 416 entries were submitted from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The The jury is made up of clients, creatives and strategists from agencies as well as editors from the media and specialist media. Switzerland is represented by Werbewoche editor-in-chief Anne-Friederike Heinrich.

Last but not least: Thickness at yoga

This video of an attractive, plus-size yogi aims to dispel prejudices against overweight people at the gym.

Full women should not do yoga. They have no balance. They sweat a lot and slip. Everyone feels uncomfortable around them. This video does away with such prejudices that chubby people are supposed to encounter in the yoga studio - and has been met with enthusiasm online.

Nonsense, according to many people who have watched the video on YouTube. There aren't really people who say that. The yoga studio is not about what someone looks like.

You should take a look at this memorable commercial from Amazon. (sis)

For Zurich wages in Zurich companies

Spinas Civil Voices is leading the campaign for the wage dumping initiative, which will be put to a vote by the people of Zurich at the end of February.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of them, complain the initiators: Workers who have to toil for less than ten francs an hour. They are usually brought in from abroad by shady companies and then temporarily exploited for a pittance.

Wage dumping is a huge nuisance, both for the workers concerned and for all companies that pay their employees fairly, according to a press release issued on Monday. In order for the canton of Zurich to finally take consistent action against black sheep, the wage dumping initiative will be put to the people of Zurich on February 28, 2016.

The employers' committee "Stop wage dumping" is campaigning for a yes vote at the ballot box. The committee has therefore commissioned the advertising agency Spinas Civil Voices to create a poster campaign. The three different subjects, which clearly communicate what is at stake, will be seen throughout the canton in the run-up to the vote.

WHO wants higher age rating for films with smoking scenes

To better protect children and adolescents from the temptation of cigarettes, the World Health Organization (WHO) is calling for an increase in the age rating for movies featuring actors who smoke.

Studies in the USA have shown that such films encourage 37 percent of new young smokers to pick up a cigarette, explains the WHO in its "Smoke-free Movies Report" presented on Monday night.

"Smoking in films can act as strong advertising for tobacco products," said WHO Director Douglas Bettcher. In view of advertising bans and sales restrictions, films in cinemas, television and the Internet are one of the last opportunities to expose millions of people to images of smokers and tobacco products.

Smoking was reported in 36% of all Hollywood films released for young people in 2014, and in 44% overall. In the same year, the US health authority CDC estimates that six million young people in the USA alone may have been tempted to smoke by films. Around two million of them could die from tobacco-related diseases.

In addition to higher age ratings for "smokers' films", studios should be banned from showing real cigarette brands, according to the WHO. "Strong anti-smoking advertising" should be mandatory before films with smoking scenes. (SDA)

Innovations in satellite reception for SRG TV channels

Switchover day is switchover day: From February 29, 2016, SRG will broadcast its television programs via satellite exclusively in high-definition (HD) quality.

In addition, SRG is providing the SRF info HD TV program with the SRF+ smart TV service. Also new as of this date, SRG is offering all regional journals of Radio SRF 1 via satellite. This writes the SRG in a press release on Presseportal.ch.

The switch from standard definition (SD) quality to high-definition (HD) quality was prepared well in advance: From 2007 to 2012, it initially offered the TV program HD Suisse, and since February 29, 2012, it has also broadcast all TV programs in HD quality in parallel with SD. This cost-intensive parallel operation is now being discontinued.

More program diversity via satellite

At the same time as the switch from SD to HD, SRG is adding the SRF+ service to the SRF info HD TV program for satellite reception. This is SRF's smart TV offering, which allows additional information on programming and shows to be superimposed on the screen. SRG is also switching all of Radio SRF 1's regional journals to satellite. This means that the regional journals can be heard throughout Europe and as far away as North Africa.

Channel scan for households with satellite reception Around ten percent of all Swiss households receive TV and radio channels via satellite. Some of these households will have to perform a channel scan after February 29, 2016 in order to continue consuming the complete SRG TV and radio offering. If a reception device (TV, decoder, set-top box) is not yet HD- and DVB-S2-capable, it is recommended to contact the specialist trade and upgrade the reception technology accordingly. Inexpensive receivers are available for less than 100 francs.

Nothing will change for households that receive SRG programs in SD quality via antenna (DVB-T), cable (DVB-C), Internet (streaming) or digital TV box. However, it cannot be ruled out that individual providers will switch over their networks in the same period.
Device test and hotline Since December 2015, affected users of satellite reception have seen a ticker on their screen during SRG television programs, drawing their attention to the switchover. At www.hd-switch.ch, you can test whether a receiver can continue to be used after the switchover date.

For questions about satellite reception, the SRG Customer Center operates a hotline. Phone: 0848 88 55 33 (local rate) Email: [email protected] Internet: www.hd-switch.ch
