Local radio and TV stations are particularly well represented, as are PR and campaign consultants. CVP member of the Council of States Filippo Lombardi holds the most industry mandates - as in the last four years.
With 13 people, the - albeit heterogeneous - publishers' guild is fairly well represented in the Federal Parliament: CVP member of the Council of States Filippo Lombardi represents two Ticino daily newspapers as Chairman of the Board of MediaTi Holding. His fellow Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter (FDP, SG) is only slightly behind him as a member of the Board of NZZ-Mediengruppe AG. National Councillor Corina Eichenberger-Walther (FDP, AG) in turn is the publisher of the "Zofinger Tagblatt". And National Councillor Hansjörg Walter (SVP, TG) is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Galledia AG and publishes 25 trade journals, including "Marketing + Kommunikation". Three other SVP National Councillors are also active in publishing: Roger Köppel (ZH) is the publisher of "Weltwoche", Lukas Reimann (SG) is a member of the Board of Directors of the right-wing "Schweizerzeit" and Marco Romano (TI) is the publisher of the SVP's own weekly newspaper "Popolo e Libertà". Four SP National Councillors are also active in the publishing business: Min Li Marti (ZH) has been the publisher of the SP's own weekly newspaper P.S. Beat Jans (BS) is a board member of the street magazine association "Surprise". Mathias Reynard (VS) is co-editor of the fortnightly newspaper "Le Peuple valaisan" and Daniel Jositsch (ZH) is a member of the board of directors of the teaching materials and specialist publisher of the Swiss Commercial Association (Verlag SKV AG). Two FDP politicians are purely digital: National Council President Christa Markwalder (BE) is involved in an e-learning platform as a board member of Bit Media AG. And Councillor of States Joachim Eder (Canton of Zug) is on the Board of Trustees of the Central Switzerland Media Foundation, which operates the online magazine Zentral+. He is also on the advisory board of the internet comparison service Comparis.ch.
Private broadcasters - the biggest media lobby
With 16 members, the lobby of local radio and TV stations is even more broadly based: Lombardi represents Radio 3i and Tele Ticino (both belong to MediaTI), and he was also once president of the local television association TeleSuisse. Keller-Sutter supports two radios and two TV stations of the NZZ Group, and Zurich FDP member of the Council of States Ruedi Noser has a stake in the company ZH-Medien, operator of the small private TV station Tele Z. Natalie Rickli (SVP, ZH), whose employer Goldbach Group markets almost all private radio stations, TVs and advertising windows, sits on the National Council. In addition, Yannick Buttet (CVP, VS), a member of the Board of Directors of Radio Chablais, is a member of the National Council. Christine Bulliard-Marbach (CVP, FR) also holds such a position at Radio Fribourg, Nadja Pieren (SVP BE) at Radio Emme, Barbara Schmid-Federer (CVP, ZH) at Radio Zürisee and Christian Wasserfallen (FDP, BE) at Radio Bern 1, while National Councillor Luzi Stamm (SVP AG) chairs the Radio Argovia sponsorship association. Other National Councillors have also been involved in this scene in the past: Maximilian Reimann (SVP, AG) was a co-founder of Radio Argovia and Tele M1, Viola Amherd (CVP, VS) was once a member of the sponsors' association of the Valais TV station Canal 9, Cédric Wermuth (SP, AG) sat on the programming advisory board at Radio 105, Matthias Aebischer (SP, BE) started his media career at Radio Förderband and Fathi Derder (PRL, VD) can boast activities at Radio Lac and La Télé.
The SRG is less comfortably represented...
