Last but not least: The seal, the monkey and the bear

Four weeks ago, Migros launched its online store, M-Stars. And it seems to be doing well: 50,000 people have already visited the Migros fan merchandise store. The blue vanilla ice cream T-shirt is proving to be the clear bestseller.

After one month, it can be said that Migros not only simply has customers, but also real fans, writes the retail company in a statement. Many of them, for example, grew up with the well-known Glacestängeli in multipacks and associate them with pleasant childhood memories. Whatever the reason, the packaging designs created in 1975 by Migros graphic artist Hans Uster are definitely popular - the blue vanilla ice cream shirt with the seal clearly occupies first place in the sales rankings, followed by the Chocoglace T-shirt with the bear and the strawberry ice cream T-shirt with the monkey. The Mirador belt then takes fourth place. Once again, someone seems to have had the right marketing instinct - after it has become a little quieter around the M-Budget cult, it is now the turn of the ice cream cones...

Playboy: Three-dimensional nude models

The men's magazine Playboy is showing its nude model cut-outs in 3D for the first time. In the June issue of US Playboy, the 2010 Playmate of the Year, Hope Dworacyzk, will appear in new dimensions, looking through 3D glasses.

Playboy founder Hugh Hefner is convinced that when people want to see something in 3D, they prefer to look at naked women. According to the press release, the latest Playboy will therefore also come with the necessary 3D glasses. "I think people will enjoy seeing the Playmate of the Year in real form," Hefner told US media. The vision of 3D Playmates has been on his mind for a long time - since the 1950s, according to the Playboy founder. At times, however, there was not enough money to equip all the magazines with 3D glasses. Hefner sees the 3D format as an argument for print that defies the digital trend. This image is an example of how books and magazines differ from computer images. You can hold them in your hands and keep them.
Playboy has been struggling with dwindling circulation for some time now. Last fall, the men's magazine caused a stir with the cartoon character Marge Simpson as a Playmate in the magazine.
In terms of merchandise, Playboy has also started to offer an increasingly wide range of products in order to appeal to as many people as possible. The expanded branding is also intended to generate additional income. However, die-hard fans of the magazine are not very enthusiastic and criticize that the products on offer today no longer have any connection to the original brand.

Yahoo increases market share thanks to photo slideshows

In April, Yahoo managed to increase its share of the search market for the first time in a long while. After Yahoo's numbers had been falling steadily for an entire year, the company posted a one-percent increase in the U.S. search market from March to April.

According to Comscore surveys, an automated search function with photo slideshows is responsible for this. Yahoo achieved a market share of 17.7 percent in April, compared to 16.9 percent in March. As it turned out, however, users are no longer searching via Yahoo. The growth comes from the automated tool on Yahoo News and Yahoo Finance, as Techcrunch reports according to the press release.
On Yahoo News, for example, the search results are linked to photo galleries that are also displayed. Each photo automatically generates related search results that are displayed below the image. Thanks to the photos, Yahoo News was able to increase its search queries from an estimated 17 million to 190 million.

35th General Meeting of the ADC Switzerland

In the 2009/2010 association year, the Art Directors Club Switzerland further developed the opening with new ideas. In 2010, for example, a guest juror took part in the entire judging process for the first time: film director and Oscar winner Xavier Koller. In addition, the "Friends of the ADC" were founded.

At the general meeting on May 11, 2010, the ADC presidium, consisting of Markus Gut, Alexander Jaggy, Markus Ruf and Martin Spillmann, was able to look back on a successful year, according to a press release issued on Wednesday.
The ADC judging 2010
As part of the opening up of the ADC, a guest juror took part in the entire judging process for the first time in 2010: Oscar winner Xavier Koller enriched the jury with his professional outside perspective, writes the ADC. Two new craft categories were also introduced: Text and Art Direction. This makes the ADC judging the most comprehensive advertising judging in the country with 13 new categories.
The ADC Festschrift 2010
The ADC magazine is always one of a kind: in 2010 it was called "Die Werbewelt" and was published by Weltwoche. Editor-in-chief Roy Spring succeeded in attracting such trenchant pens as Kai Michel, René Lüchinger, Beatrice Schlag, Wolfram Knorr and Ulf Poschardt.
The new "Friends of the ADC"
In the fall of 2009, the "Friends of the ADC" were founded by the new ADC presidium. They support the Club's efforts to improve creative work in Switzerland. They are personalities who have themselves achieved extraordinary things in various fields. To date, 18 "Friends of the ADC" have been accepted, including cabaret artist Emil Steinberger, communications professional Patrick Rohr, publisher and cabaret artist Patrick Frey, Zurich Film Festival founders Nadja Schildknecht and Karl Spoerri and film director Michael Steiner.
The ADC Sponsors
Despite the difficult economic environment, the ADC has succeeded in retaining existing sponsors and attracting new ones, according to the press release. Specifically: APG was once again a category sponsor, while Handelszeitung and Bilanz were once again festival sponsors. The Goldbach Media Group, Schweizer Presse (only an advertisement can do this) and UD-Print have been acquired as new category sponsors. And the long-standing sponsor Publisuisse is a new premium partner of the ADC.
The ADC trade events
The ADC wants to improve advertising by judging it. But also by discussing it at specialist events. The highlight of the "Backstage of Benchmark" series of events so far was the presentation "10 reasons why this is the best time to be in advertising" by English advertising legend Sir John Hegarty in March 2010. For those who were unable to attend, the new ADC Premium Partner Publisuisse recorded the event.
The ADC finances
Despite the difficult economic environment, the ADC was able to close the year with a small profit. Thanks to the commitment of the sponsors, the constant number of entries and the advertisements in the ADC festival magazine.
The ADC Presidium
The honorary ADC presidency, consisting of Markus Gut, Alexander Jaggy, Markus Ruf and Martin Spillmann, was confirmed at the general meeting.
The ADC Board of Directors
There were a number of rotations on the ADC Board that had been announced well in advance by those stepping down. Geri Aebi handed over the Sponsoring department to Remy Fabrikant, Urs Schrepfer handed over the Young ADC department to Philipp Skrabal. Andreas Prokesch, who has served as ADC Jury Chairman for 15 years, also stepped down. His successor as Chairman is Frank Bodin, the preferred candidate of both Prokesch and the ADC Executive Committee. The other board members were confirmed in office and the new board members were elected.
Read an exclusive interview with Andreas Prokesch about his resignation and the work of the ADC in the next print edition on May 20.

Grundy Switzerland and SF produce "The greatest Swiss talents"

According to a press release, "Switzerland's Got Talent" (working title) is a licensed format. The original comes from England and is called "Britain's Got Talent". It was first broadcast there in 2007, with the winner of the first season, Paul Potts, and the runner-up from 2009, Susan Boyle, selling millions of albums.
Unlike "MusicStar", for example, the casting show is not just looking for singers, but for talent from all areas of entertainment. The castings are expected to take place throughout Switzerland in the fall of 2010. You can register via www.sf.tv from June 15, 2010. The host and jury will be announced at a later date.
Grundy Switzerland is a Ringier holding company (35 percent), belongs to Ringier TV and is part of the Ringier Entertainment division. "It's great to be able to bring the successful format from England to Switzerland. I am sure that we will be surprised by the variety of applicants in the search for the greatest Swiss talents. As diverse as Switzerland itself...", says Mathias Ruch, Managing Director of Grundy Switzerland and Head of Moving Image/Television at Ringier. Grundy Switzerland already produces the successful early evening program "5GEGEN5" for Swiss television.
