Gossweiler Media: Andy Lehmann becomes member of the Board of Directors

Andy Lehmann has been elected to the Board of Directors of Gossweiler Media. This means that four members will sit on the company's Board of Directors from November 2010.

Andy Lehmann will bring his many years of media experience and his network of contacts to the Board of Directors of the Brienz-based media company, according to a press release issued on Thursday. He began his career at the Zürichsee-Zeitung and Vogt-Schild. In 1986, he became Head of Magazine Advertising at Ringier and was responsible for the market launch of Cash as Publishing Director from 1989. In 1992, he joined the management of Jean Frey. He then entered the newly developing media agency sector. He successively took over the management of Qualimedia, Optimedia and Mediahaus.Seefeld. Since 2003, he has been CEO of Aegis Media Group Switzerland, which he will leave on October 31, 2010. Andy Lehmann lives with his wife in Zurich and has three grown-up children.

Jung von Matt/Limmat: "I simply love the Wernli"

In Wernli's first campaign since the takeover by the Hug Group in 2008, the focus is on the irresistible desirability of the chocolate biscuits. At the same time, one of Switzerland's best-known advertising claims is brought back to life: Me het de Wernli eifach gernli.

The campaign kicks off with six short commercials in which even people with a role model function talk and munch uninhibitedly with their mouths full and against all rules of decency - because you simply love Wernli in every situation. The new chocolate-coated Jura Choco biscuits are shown as representatives of the entire, visually revised Schoggibiscuit range. In addition to the TV commercials, the campaign, which will run from mid-May, will be disseminated on the Internet and through sponsorship activities.

Google Wave opens up to all users

The collaboration service Google Wave is now open to all users. Until now, the new Google service had been in a closed beta phase, accessible only by invitation.

The web-based communication service was launched last fall to great fanfare, but was unable to live up to the hype for long. In the meantime, Google Wave has become relatively quiet. After all, Wave was somewhat overshadowed by Google Buzz, which also struggled with teething problems, but was available to all users from the outset. As Buzz is directly integrated into Gmail, it also had a better user base from the outset. Now that it has been opened up to the general public, Wave can hope to finally get the ball rolling. Google is also making the service available to Google Apps users free of charge.
It's clear from the feedback received that Wave is a great place to work - especially when teams are collaborating on projects that require a lot of discussion and close coordination, says Stephanie Hannon, Product Manager for Google Wave, according to the press release. "If you tried Google Wave a while ago and felt it was still a work in progress, now would be a good time to give it another go," says Hannon.

Federal Council does not believe in compulsory break for TV stations

Vaud National Council member Josef Zisyadis has been rebuffed by the Federal Council regarding his proposal to ban television stations from broadcasting between midnight and 6 a.m.

According to SDA, Zisyadis from the Party of Labor (PdA) wanted to give television viewers' brains a "breather" with the nightly broadcasting ban. He believes such a break is necessary because television programs try to influence the brain. Above all, this encourages competitive thinking and mutual destruction.
The Federal Council does not think so: it considers Zisyadi's motion to be unenforceable and unlawful, as it writes in its response published on Thursday. Instead, the Confederation is relying on consumers' personal responsibility and wants to promote the competent use of media. Furthermore, the Federal Council also questions the effectiveness of a ban on broadcasting after midnight: hardly anyone watches television after midnight. With his focus on television, Zisyadis also fails to recognize that young people today use the Internet much more frequently.

Le Courrier: Editor-in-chief dismissed without notice

The editor-in-chief of the Geneva daily newspaper Le Courrier, Fabio Lo Verso, was dismissed without notice on Wednesday evening.

The General Assembly of the publishing company NAC justified its decision with Lo Verso's management style. This was no longer appropriate, said NAC President Florio Togni according to SDA. It had never been a question of the content of the daily newspaper. Nor did the editor-in-chief's absences due to illness play a role, Togni assured on request.
Lo Verso had lost the trust of the Courrier staff. At the beginning of April, Lo Verso had already been asked not to come back to the office when he returned from several months' absence due to illness. Last week, the NAC committee then asked him to resign. From Lo Verso's point of view, this was a dispute over content. He had gone against the wishes of the editorial team and was against an edition with fewer pages. The staff, who have a lot of power at the left-leaning newspaper, did not like this at all, said the fired editor-in-chief.
Nevertheless, Lo Verso drew a positive balance of his three years as editor-in-chief. Under his leadership, the editorial quality has increased, the readership has grown and profits have been made. The newspaper, which is constantly plagued by money worries and does not need advertisements, had 8,766 readers at the end of last year.
Until Lo Verso's successor is found, the two deputy editors-in-chief Rachad Armanions and Simon Petite will lead the paper, as they have been doing for the past few months, as Le Courrier announced in a communiqué.

Consumer Protection Foundation disappointed by Orange and Sunrise's appeal

The Foundation for Consumer Protection (SKS) is disappointed by the appeal lodged by Orange and Sunrise against the merger ban imposed by the Competition Commission. It accuses the two companies of not being prepared to make any concessions for the benefit of consumers.

With their appeal, Orange and Sunrise have taken a stubborn stance and also undermined the position of the Competition Commission (ComCo) on the telecoms market, the SKS announced on Thursday, according to SDA. The SKS therefore believes that the two regulatory authorities, the Competition Commission and the Federal Communications Commission, should be strengthened in the upcoming revision of the Cartel Act. The consumer advocates expressly welcomed the Weko's ban on mergers. They fear that a merger between Orange and Sunrise would create a duopoly on the Swiss market, which could keep telephone tariffs high.
The Foundation for Consumer Protection advises the two telecommunications companies wishing to merge to submit a new application subject to conditions if they cannot live with the ban. If the merger takes place under different circumstances, it would also be reassessed from the point of view of consumer protection.

Publicis ushers in a new era of streetcar advertising

In close collaboration with VBZ Traffic Media, Publicis is promoting the Box Club Zurich with a compelling pitch.

The staging of the shunting bell in 15 different streetcars, which sounds just like the referee's bell during a boxing match, fits like a glove, the agency writes in a press release. And that also pleases Amboss Bier - the sponsor of the boxing club.
Because an ordering bell also sounds like a ring bell, the idea is also available as a countertop version in selected bars and restaurants: here, the ordering bell is used to draw attention to Amboss' sponsorship commitment.
