Chatter: Burda plans new people magazine

Following the three new titles - Mein Schönes Land, Donna and Alley Cat - publisher Hubert Burda Media is apparently also planning to launch a young people magazine on newsstands. The new magazine is to be called Chatter.

However, the title will not be printed in magazine quality, but on high-quality newsprint. This was reported by Wuv.de on Friday. A comprehensive online portal is to be developed in parallel. The domain Chatter.de is already owned by Burda. The publisher already had the corresponding logo protected at the beginning of April.
The last two attempts to launch a young people magazine in the slightly lower price segment ended up in the drawer

Unsatisfactory financial year for the UD Medien Group

The UD Medien Group, headquartered in Lucerne, reported an unsatisfactory fiscal year in 2009. As a result, a total of ten jobs were cut at two of the group’s companies.

In terms of numbers, DU Print had to bear the brunt of the cuts. Seven of the total of 96 jobs are affected, according to a statement from the group. At Anzeiger Luzern AG, three of 25 jobs will be cut, one each in editorial, administration and the distribution organization. According to Akermann, CEO of the DU Medien Group, one of the most important findings from the analyses of the 2009 financial year was the more intensive use of the in-house value chain in the print sector.
After a profit of almost a quarter of a million francs in the 2008 financial year, the year was characterized by an economic slump and a collapse in advertising volumes. In contrast, the financial statements for the previous year show a loss of almost 380,000 francs. In the first quarter of 2010, operating income improved again slightly.

Swisscom: Orange demands repayment of excessive charges

The telecoms company Orange is demanding repayment of over 900,000 Swiss francs from Swisscom. It has filed a claim with the Bern Commercial Court alleging that Swisscom charged it excessive interconnection fees between 2004 and 2006.

The plaintiff claimed on Friday that the former monopolist Swisscom had abused its dominant market position in the fixed network when concluding the contract. Orange had to sign the contract on the fee for the shared use of telecom networks of other providers for the years 2004 to 2006 according to the motto "take it or leave it", as the Orange lawyer said in court according to SDA. The contract contained a clause in which a so-called retroactive third-party effect was excluded. In this way, Swisscom wanted to prevent Orange from being able to invoke later price reductions by the Federal Communications Commission Comcom.
In December 2007, Comcom ruled that Swisscom had charged its competitors COLT Telecom and Verizon Switzerland too high interconnection prices for the years 2004 to 2006. The authority retroactively reduced the prices by 15 to 20 percent.
Orange argues that the exclusion clause is null and void. Swisscom therefore owes it the difference between the lower prices set by the authorities and the fees already paid, which amounts to CHF 913,000. Swisscom sees the legal situation "diametrically differently", as its lawyer said. The contract was concluded between the parties "on an equal footing". The company invokes the so-called primacy of negotiation: freedom of contract takes precedence over official intervention by Comcom.
Swisscom has since changed its contractual practice. Since 2007, the company has agreed a regulation with all competitors for regulated access services, according to which they can also benefit from lower prices which Comcom decrees in a procedure in which they are not involved.
The Commercial Court will announce its verdict in August. Another similar case against Swisscom is pending before the same court, in which Cablecom is the plaintiff. This action relates to the period 2001 to 2003.

New communication agency Kargo

After around 10 years, Grafikatelier Balsi has evolved into an advertising agency as a result of its successes. The team has grown in terms of creation, strengthened in terms of consulting and positioned itself as the small Bernese creative agency that designs straight ahead, creates forwards and communicates directly.

Nomen est omen: the container as the agency's key visual symbolizes communication as freight between sender and receiver. A team of seven people work at Kargo's signal box, implementing integrated communication projects for clients such as BKW FMB Energie, the City of Bern, Spitex Switzerland, the Swiss Holiday Association and the Swiss Cancer League.

Tamedia/Edipresse merger: Wirz Corporate revises brand design of Job Up

As part of the merger between Edipresse and Tamedia, the two media companies decided to consolidate their online job-posting operations. For this reason, the company Job Up was launched at the beginning of 2010 and is responsible for Alpha.ch, Jobwinner.ch, and Jobup.ch.

Merging the three job platforms under one roof will create a Switzerland-wide offering for job seekers and providers. There is also potential for synergies, for example with the currently separate brand presences of the similarly positioned Jobwinner.ch and Jobup.ch platforms. For this reason, Job Up commissioned Wirz Corporate, a subsidiary of the Wirz Group, to revise the corresponding brand designs. The work included the development of uniform brand design elements, brand endorsement, image concepts and basic communication media.

Award Night of the Swiss Dialog Marketing Award 2010

On May 28, 2010, the time had come: The gods of dialog marketing were crowned at the Kongresshaus Zurich. 3 gold, 5 silver and 12 bronze awards were handed out.

The shortlist for the Dialog Marketing Award 2010 had already been known since the beginning of April. But it was not until Friday, May 28, 2010 - some two months later - that the secret of the winners was revealed.
The 2010 Dialog Marketing Award Night at the Kongresshaus in Zurich was all about Olympus, as presenter Eva Nidecker chose the gods of dialog marketing. 24 times it was "And the winner is ...".
The jury presented 3 gold, 5 silver and 12 bronze awards. No fewer than four awards went to Agentur am Flughafen, which thus leads the award ranking, ahead of Publicis Dialog with three awards and the agencies OgilvyOne AG and the Y&R Group with two awards each. Three awards went to agencies from Germany.
No award in the "Printed, non-personalized promotional materials" category
After tough discussions, the jury under Chairman Guido Wietlisbach decided not to present an award in the category "Printed, non-personalized advertising materials" this year. In doing so, it is sending out a signal about the quality of the Swiss Dialog Marketing Award and calling on agencies and clients to submit the best quality work in this category again next year.
The Platinum Award
Whoever wins the platinum award sponsored by Swiss Post will be at the helm of the dialog gods for a year. The jury's responsibility was correspondingly great. To thunderous applause, the agency at the airport was finally able to accept the coveted award for the mailing "When a newsletter becomes a shopping bag".
The Audience Award
During the dialog marketing exhibition, several works were chosen as candidates for the audience award. In the subsequent e-voting, two works were in a neck-and-neck race. In the end, the agency Heber.Link.Asendorf from Winterthur secured direct entry into the Olympus. Significantly, the title of their work was: "Hit the nail on the head".
The Junior Award
In 2010, the SDV Junior Award was presented for the first time. The aim is nothing less than to generate communication ideas for the 2011 Dialog Marketing Award. The young talents let their heads smoke and submitted exciting works. Accordingly, it was difficult for the jury to make a decision in this category. That's why two juniors received an award. According to the motto of the SDV Juniorsclub, each received a "fadegraade" boxing glove.
The winning brochure with all the works can be downloaded as a PDF from the website www.dm-preis.ch can be downloaded.
In a statement, organizer Marc Zehnder, Kleistermeister Eventsolutions, thanked all agencies for participating in the Swiss Dialog Marketing Award 2010 and all sponsors for their cooperation. In this context, the sponsors in kind, who sponsored paper, envelopes and more, and the agency Ulmann+Partner from Lucerne, which took care of the overall communication under the sign of Olympus, should be mentioned.

Vizner Borel heralds the great quest for the small can for Igora

In collaboration with the online portal 20 Minuten, Vizner Borel has designed a contest for Igora. Various small aluminum cans are hidden within the editorial section.

The task is to find these small cans. However, the cans jump to a different location every day and the whole search starts all over again. 20 Minuten has implemented the competition online in the editorial section. "Die große Suche nach der kleinen Dose" is accompanied editorially, also in the print edition, and advertised on posters. The Igora 100 percent campaign, which can be seen on posters, is running nationally at the same time.

Five journalists awarded the Zurich Journalism Prize 2010

Five journalists were awarded the 2010 Zurich Journalism Prize on Thursday: Balz Bruppacher (Lifetime Achievement), Viktor Dammann (Newspaper Category), Mathias Ninck (Magazine Category), and Christian Kündig and Lukas Messmer (Emerging Talent Category).

According to SDA, the Zurich Journalism Prize Foundation announced that their work demonstrated a "high standard of media work in the printed press". The prize has been awarded annually since 1981. CHF 10,000 is awarded per category. A total of 121 entries were submitted.
Balz Bruppacher, who helped set up the Swiss service of the AP news agency 30 years ago and led it as editor-in-chief for 26 years, has "made history" with his reports - especially with his economic analyses, said jury member Andrea Masüger. The award for the agency journalist is also "a monument to all those who stand in the shadows and who quietly produce great journalism". The Swiss AP service was discontinued in the spring.
Viktor Dammann, court and crime reporter for Blick, received the prize in the newspaper category for his contribution to uncovering the incidents at the Entlisberg care center, where nurses humiliated and filmed female patients. According to the jury, the realization of the story revealed a "tabloid professional who feels committed to the cause and the victims".
Magazine editor Mathias Ninck received the prize in the magazine category for his report on Ernst Roduner, the former federal investigating judge. According to the jury, Ninck "shone a light into the Swiss judicial system, which is reluctant to show its cards".
The young talent award went to Lukas Messmer and Christian Kündig for a report in the "Zürcher Studierendenzeitung". The jury found that they had written a captivating 24-hour report from a smoky and disreputable bar.
