Seed: Three films realized for Swisscom

Seed developed and produced three films for Swisscom. These films focus on specific customer needs—and the corresponding solutions.

The three unanimous films are intended to provide an emotional introduction to the respective topic area. Seed has also produced 10-second teasers of all the films, which are used on introductory pages. In addition to online use, the films are also used in presentations. Swisscom is also using the film "Focus on the core business" as a TV spot, which will be shown during the live broadcast of the Swiss Economic Forum on SF at the beginning of June 2010. As general contractor, Seed developed the concept, wrote the scripts and realized the films.

Y&R: Bringing the Oakley Rebels to Europe

The eyewear manufacturer Oakley promotes its products in the U.S. using well-known athletes—the Oakley Rebels. Advico Young & Rubicam has developed a concept for the U.S. company to launch the Rebels campaign in Europe as well.

For example, rally driver Sébastien Loeb can be seen standing on the edge of a roof and Jorge Lorenzo, shooting star of the Moto GP scene, dousing paparazzi with water from a balcony. The campaign is being used throughout Europe with advertisements and superposters. In Berlin, there are also busses with stickers and for a month Oakley will occupy the entire subway station at Potsdamer Platz. Further station branding is planned for June in Hamburg.
The Oakley Rebels can also be seen online: Futurecom has a banner campaign with the Oakley Rebels and the website Be-a-rebel.eu developed. There, anyone can become a rebel by creating their own banner. Anyone who uploads a photo and a rebel statement and selects a pair of glasses will be sent the address of one of the websites on which Oakley has booked banners. There, instead of the official rebel subject, the own is then switched on.

Last but not least: How Greenpeace advertises with the oil spill

Greenpeace seems willing to use any means necessary to promote the switch to renewable energy. An image of the sinking Deepwater Horizon oil rig is now being used in an ad. «Just as safe as our nuclear power plants,» it reads.

The oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico is stirring up emotions. So why not profit from it and use the event for an attention-grabbing ad? The connection is easy to find: The safety promises propagated before the disaster by those responsible for the oil platform and those of the operators of local nuclear power plants are identical. Both sell (or sold) their form of energy generation as safe. And now we have seen what can happen... Of course, it is difficult to deny the parallels. But the question arises as to whether it is appropriate to use the drama of the event for advertising purposes. Simple and effective - is that enough justification?
The advertisement was designed by Startbahnwest and appeared full-page in the Sonntagszeitung, the NZZ am Sonntag and the Monday edition of 20 Minuten.

Zurich High Court: acquittals for SRG executives confirmed

The Zurich High Court has acquitted two SRG executives of violating the Lottery Act by airing illegal commercials. It upheld the acquittal handed down by the lower court.

The point of contention is the advertising spots of a foreign betting company that were broadcast 77 times on the SRG stations SF 1 and SF 2 between March 19 and April 5, 2007. The lottery company Swisslos filed a complaint. The Zurich District Governor's Office then sentenced the head of the SRG legal service and a person responsible for acquisition at the SRG subsidiary Publisuisse to fines of CHF 3,000 and CHF 10,000 for violating the Lottery Act. As the company offered various sports betting, casino games and poker products, the advertising spot was not permitted in Switzerland, argued the Office of the Prosecutor. The District Court of Zurich overturned the penalty order, but the Office of the Governor took the case further.
The High Court has now confirmed the acquittal. It denied any authorship on the part of the defendants. They were neither the intellectual authors of the advertising message nor the clients.
They did not produce the commercial and did not commission it, according to the written verdict. The two acquitted parties will receive compensation of CHF 2,500 each.

Markus Köchli, previously deputy editor-in-chief, will also be appointed head of the Special editorial team on October 1. Pascal Ihle will remain Deputy Editor-in-Chief alongside Stefan Eiselin. Beat Balzli will also take up his post as Editor-in-Chief in October 2010 at the latest.

Last but not least: Publisher recalls deadly recipe

The publisher Hoffmann und Campe launched a special kind of recall on Thursday. Booksellers and reviewers were asked to return a recipe card from the publisher's current preview.

The fictitious dish recommends a murderous ingredient. Pasted into the autumn preview were cooking instructions for the dish "Wild rabbit with capers", which is seasoned with three leaves of foxglove. This advertising material was intended as an allusion to Maxie Kaiser's passion for cooking and willingness to murder, the main character of the advertised crime thriller.
In order to check how many of the cards are still in circulation, the publishing house urgently warns against destroying or disposing of them and asks for them to be returned. According to the recall, care should be taken to ensure that the prescription card does not fall into the wrong hands. This sounds like a PR stunt for the announcement of the thriller. But it is not. Press officer Ragna Sieckmann even expressly pointed out on Thursday that this was not a PR stunt.

Ringier shows interest in French newspaper Le Monde

The Swiss media group Ringier is interested in acquiring the French newspaper Le Monde. Le Monde, which is in financial trouble, is urgently seeking a buyer.

The dossier has been ordered and will be examined in the coming weeks, as publisher Michael Ringier said in Paris on the sidelines of a media orientation. Group spokesman Edi Estermann confirmed to SDA a corresponding report in the French newspaper Les Echos. According to Estermann, Ringier wants to consider what new forms of cooperation are possible.
There is already an interface between Ringier and Le Monde - Ringier has a 47 percent stake in the French-speaking Swiss newspaper Le Temps, Le Monde has a 2 percent stake. Because they already have a joint commitment, they naturally want to take a closer look at this partner, Estermann continued.
Alongside Le Figaro, the left-liberal Le Monde is considered France's most important opinion-forming newspaper. Economically, however, things are looking less rosy for the paper. Since 2002, the world newspaper has generated a deficit of over 200 million euros. In 2009 alone, circulation shrank by 4.3 percent to just under 290,000 copies. The majority of the traditional paper is held by the journalists themselves, the "Société des rédacteurs du Monde". So far, five investors have shown interest in joining the La Vie-Le Monde Group via a capital increase. The candidates must submit a firm offer by June 15.
