Last but not least: The country where broadband Internet is a basic right

Finland is the first country in the world to declare high-speed Internet access a fundamental right. Telecommunications companies are now required to provide every resident with a connection at a DSL speed of one megabit per second.

This decision was based on the role of the Internet in the daily lives of Finns, as Communications Minister Suvi Linden explained on Thursday. However, the Finns are already largely supplied with fast Internet. Now only around 4,000 households need to be connected, Linden continued.

Corporate Forum Best of 2010

The jury of Europe's largest corporate communications competition selected 177 winners from among 600 entries. Switzerland took home 3 gold and 15 silver awards.

The BCP (Best of Corporate Publishing) is considered the showcase for innovation in the corporate publishing market. This year, the jury said it was «impressed by the superbly executed cross-media concepts, bold covers, and exceptional feature stories.» The digital submissions, in particular, reflected current CP trends with creative videos, iPhone apps, and new digital magazine formats.
Orchestrated media strategies across all channels and the intelligent management of various communication channels are the key challenges for many publishers. «The BCP submissions have clearly shown just how impressively corporate publishers are already implementing this intelligent integration,» says Michael Höflich, Managing Director of the Forum Corporate Publishing. The BCP awards are presented in 29 categories. The main sponsor, Steinbeis-Papier, presents a special «Green Publishing» award. LinguaKraft Language and Transatlantic Translations honor international communication concepts. The publisher Deutscher Drucker and the Media Producers Association recognize publications with outstanding print finishing. The Corbis photo agency is awarding the «Cover of the Year» special prize for the first time. All awards were presented on June 30 following the BCP Congress at the Grand Élysée in Hamburg and are currently listed at www.bcp-award.com. As a jury member, *Werbewoche* is already able to present the Swiss winners here.

New mandate for Agence Trio: Anibis.ch from Ringier Switzerland

The communication concept developed by Trio is based on the teasing principle: a first visual replaces the coveted object with the Anibis logo and the second makes it visible. The black and white illustrations show color and announce an easy-to-use platform.
The campaign, which ran from June to August, consisted of radio spots, advertisements and banners in numerous traditional and electronic media in German-speaking Switzerland. Thousands of bicycles in Zurich, Basel, Bern and St. Gallen were covered with saddle covers in the Anibis colors as guerrilla campaigns.
A follow-up to the campaign is already planned for after the vacations.
Responsible at Agence Trio: Michael Kamm, Olivier Pasche (project management), Guido Masson (creative direction), Réa Christ (graphics), Cédric Gachet (illustration), Christophe Muller (multimedia). Responsible at Anibis: Patricia Handl, Klaus Abele.

Google aims for key role in flight ticket search

Google is diving into the next growth market: the online airline ticket business. The Internet giant is spending $700 million to acquire a software specialist in flight information.

The company ITA Software analyzes air travel information and makes the data available to travel websites such as Expedia. According to the Wall Street Journal, Expedia and its competitors Kayak, Travelport and Amadeus have jointly tried to snatch ITA away from Google in recent months. However, the company, which is controlled by a small number of shareholders, turned them down. According to the newspaper report, the previous owners initially demanded one billion dollars. However, Google pushed the price down.
The search engine Bing from Google rival Microsoft is also one of ITA's customers.
