Agency at the airport: looking for new talent for the Swiss textile industry

For the fifth time, the agency at the airport has produced a mailing campaign for the Swiss textile industry to inform high school graduates about career opportunities in the textile industry. This time, a self-disintegrating mailing was created.

The textile mailing can be placed in water after reading - and dissolves. What remains of the info card for the young person is an embroidered key ring. The mailing will be sent out in late summer 2010.

Contexta: Great cinema for Swisscom TV

Swisscom aims to raise awareness of its Swisscom TV service and showcase its expertise in entertainment through a new viral campaign. The advertising agency Contexta has created a personalized video for this purpose: In «Lost in Val Sinestra,» users take the director’s chair themselves and cast their own Facebook friends in the lead roles.

All the necessary information about the user and their friends is automatically extracted from the Facebook data and then seamlessly inserted into the film on the audio and video track. Posting to all Facebook friends involved should lead to a large and rapid distribution of the films. After one week, over 80,000 trailers had already been created. "Lost in Val Sinestra" is based on an idea by the Bernese advertising agency Contexta. The project was produced by Stories. The technical know-how comes from Hinderling Volkart.

Last but not least: Which search engine helps against boredom?

Researchers from Swansea University in Wales and Erlangen in Germany have taken a close look at information platforms and have come to some shocking conclusions: People who only search out of boredom are left out in the cold! The scientists see a need for optimization...

Search engines are suitable for users who are looking for things like stores, travel destinations or other specific information. But if you want to fight boredom with the help of a search engine, you're out of luck. According to the study, the problem is that such people search in order to achieve a certain mood. However, search engines do not recognize what bored users really want. "Online information systems would be better if they helped people to have fun instead of just giving the right answers," study leader Max Wilson told the industry service Pressetext. This shortcoming must be remedied as quickly as possible. After all, the aim is to win over bored users - of whom there are more and more thanks to the ubiquitous availability of the Internet - as customers.

JvM/Limmat: Shoebox campaign continues

For the past two years, Vögele Shoes has been staging its models in oversized shoe boxes to showcase its current collections. Now, Jung von Matt/Limmat has taken the campaign a step further.

The models' legs now protrude from holes in the closed box. Spanish illustration artist Gabriel Moreno has drawn a figure around each of the real legs on the box lid. By combining photography and illustration into a whole, the current shoe collection presents itself in a newly interpreted, independent look. The new motifs can be seen on posters, advertisements and at the POS. They can also be seen on e-boards, where short animations breathe life into the motifs.

Google: Engagement with social networks expanded

With yet another acquisition, Google is strengthening its presence in the social networking space. The company is acquiring the Canadian startup Social Deck, which develops online games. The companies did not disclose the purchase price.

According to media reports, Google is planning its own platform to compete with Facebook, which with its more than 500 million users has become a serious competitor in the advertising business. The booming online games are to play a central role in this. Social Deck offers games such as "Shake & Spell" and "Pet Hero", which are primarily aimed at casual gamers. Users can access them from multimedia cell phones such as the iPhone and various Blackberry models as well as via the Facebook social network. The company, which was founded in 2008, uses its own technology for the cross-platform development of games. In recent months, Google has acquired a number of smaller companies that offer services related to social networks and online games. The search engine giant has also acquired a stake in Zynga ("Farmville").

Ogilvy Frankfurt advertises in the newspaper

Ogilvy Frankfurt has created a witty brochure for the newspaper marketing company ZMG. This is intended to encourage media decision-makers to use newspaper advertising. The publication takes an ironic approach to the newspaper as an advertising medium and dispels preconceptions.

"Rarely laughed so hard", "Have you seen the latest? Advertising in the newspaper works best!" This is how the advantages of the newspaper as an advertising medium are presented with a dose of humor. The messages are underpinned with information pages, visually supported by drawings by cartoonists Greser & Lenz.
