Communications Commission has nothing against Sunrise purchase
The sale of the telecommunications provider Sunrise has taken another step forward. Following the Competition Commission (Weko), the Federal Communications Commission (ComCom) has now also approved the acquisition of Sunrise by the private equity firm CVC.
The Commission announced on Tuesday that Sunrise would continue to meet the licensing requirements even after the purchase by CVC. Sunrise would continue to have the necessary technical capabilities to provide its customers with high-quality mobile telephony services. Moreover, the planned purchase of Sunrise by CVC would not impair competition in the mobile telephony market, as the Competition Commission had already established. The Sunrise license will therefore be amended. At the same time, the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) has also approved the change of ownership, as OFCOM spokeswoman Deborah Murith told the SDA news agency. Bakom had to approve the transfer of the radio relay license.
The Luxembourg-based financial investor CVC Capital Partners Group announced in mid-September that it wanted to buy Sunrise from the Danish TDC Group for CHF 3.3 billion. A merger between Sunrise and Orange had previously failed due to a veto by the Swiss Competition Commission. The supervisory authority wanted to prevent a duopoly in the Swiss telecommunications market.
