Frontwork: Young outfit for City Bernina

A fresh new look—that’s how the Zurich business and shopping center City Bernina Centers presents itself in its new design, implemented by Frontwork.

The visitor already feels welcome at the entrance. The illuminated aura of the semicircular cut-out lettering above the revolving doors welcomes him sympathetically. The exterior steles, illuminated on both sides, are clearly visible at a height of five meters and point the way to the respective companies in the building. In the parking garage, the light boxes produced and installed by Frontwork facilitate orientation: with tenant information, various lettering and floor marking. The concept was developed by Designalltag Rinderer from Zurich; Frontwork, (Brigitte Grüter, Djelil Bajrami), Wallisellen, is responsible for the implementation.

New daily newspaper in the UK for the first time in 30 years

For the first time in 30 years, a new daily newspaper is launching in the United Kingdom. As the Trinity Mirror media group announced on Monday, *The New Day* will be available for free at more than 40,000 retail locations on its first day of publication, next Monday.

The 40-page paper, which is published from Monday to Friday, will then cost 25 pence (32 cents) for two weeks, followed by 50 pence (64 cents). The newspaper is to be completely independent of the Daily Mirror, which is also published by Trinity Mirror. The New Day will not have its own website, but will be present on social media. Trinity Mirror boss Simon Fox explained that more than one million people have stopped buying a newspaper in the past two years. But with the "right product", many of them could be won back. The editor-in-chief of The New Day, Alison Philips, added that the new newspaper had been developed as a result of customer insights and was geared towards modern lifestyle needs.

The announcement follows a few days after the announcement that the British daily newspaper The Independent will be published in print for the last time on March 26. The parent company ESI Media intends to concentrate on the Independent website and launch a mobile application in future. Like many newspapers, the paper has suffered from a drop in circulation in recent times. It currently has a paid circulation of around 60,000, making it the least read national daily newspaper in the UK. (SDA)

Ticino prosecutor's office criticizes RSI after "Africans" report

In a rare statement, the Ticino Public Prosecutor’s Office has denied a report by the Ticino television station RSI. RSI had reported that «four Africans» allegedly attempted to rape a woman on a train over the weekend. RSI stands by its account.

According to an RSI report on Sunday, the incident is said to have occurred on Saturday in a regional train in the direction of Lugano. Four "African citizens" have consequently been provisionally arrested as alleged perpetrators, according to RSI. They are accused of having tried to approach a female passenger in a train toilet in order to commit a crime against her.

The events as described by RSI do not correspond to reality, the Ticino public prosecutor's office wrote in a statement on Monday. At the same time, it called on the RSI management to urge its employees to better comply with journalistic due diligence - corresponding reports should be checked more closely for their truthfulness. Only in this way, according to the prosecutor's office, it can be prevented that an "unjustified panic mood" is created in the population.

All facts had been examined in the message of Sunday before appearance, communicated however the RSI news direction on Monday on inquiry. It maintains that the Ticino cantonal police was alerted on Saturday because of an attempted abuse of a rail passenger. The alleged perpetrators were "persons of African origin". The prosecutor's office had failed to provide further details on the ongoing investigation to justify the denial to RSI. (SDA)

Last but not least: Photoshop with an empty stomach

When a photo editor is hungry, he doesn't exactly turn into a diva—but he does get flustered and ends up making frustrating mistakes. So say BBDO New York and Snickers.

Snickers has hit the bull's eye with the ad that can be seen on the back of this year's "Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Issue". Published once a year, the highly acclaimed special issue of Sports Illustrated features models and sportswomen in bikinis in exotic locations. All flawless, of course, and all post-processed. BBDO New York has squeezed the "You're not you when you're hungry" campaign, which has been running for six years, into the Photoshopped swimsuit - a humorous, peanut-filled dig at an industry that is only too happy to feign perfection. The House: Intralogistics staged by Jungheinrich

Jungheinrich commissioned The House to develop an overarching positioning strategy and a more focused communications approach—with a high degree of autonomy—for the intralogistics sector in the B2B segment.

Jungheinrich stands for pioneering intralogistics and is one of the world's three largest suppliers of material handling equipment, warehousing and material flow technology. The centerpiece of the communication is an image film that stages the perfectly coordinated processes through a parkour runner and thus creates a bridge to the topic of intralogistics. The film runs in both electronic and digital media, as well as in an interactive version at Jungheinrich.chwhere it acts as a pivotal point for the individual phases and brings additional content to life on the timeline.

At Il.jungheinrich.ch a microsite has been created as a modern web presence that revisits the topic of intralogistics, presents the product range and underlines Jungheinrich's expertise. The site is available in a specially adapted version for desktop, tablet and smartphone.

The essence of the film was consistently continued with an elaborate key visual shoot using special photography and lighting technology. The visuals are staged in print, digital advertising materials, trade fairs, brochures and internal applications.

Jung von Matt/Limmat: Real chocolate advertising for Cailler

For almost 200 years, Cailler has stood for the taste of the real thing. Jung von Matt/Limmat has implemented a new appearance for Switzerland's oldest chocolate brand.

In Broc, in the middle of the idyllic Fribourg Pre-Alps, chocolate is produced in the Maison Cailler - a building dating back to the 19th century. Only natural and sustainably produced ingredients are processed there, as well as exclusively fresh milk from cows in the region. The new appearance of the traditional brand is as genuinely made and authentic as Cailler chocolate. The new campaign is a counter-design to classic chocolate advertising, in which computer-animated chocolate flows in slow motion into a finely draped box of chocolates.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Yl8aWVHLpc

A TV spot, which is at the heart of the campaign, takes the real making of Cailler advertising to the extreme. It was filmed in Broc in front of the real Maison Cailler. A narrator walks across the meadow, past the cows, and speaks in French - the language of the place - about Cailler. Real subtitles in the grass translate into German before the speaker meets a real dairy farmer and, a little further away, a band playing the commercial's soundtrack live on the set's meadow.

The campaign continues to include print conversions, online advertising and a new online presence. The new website with integrated 360° videos gives visitors an authentic look inside the Atelier du Chocolat as well as the chocolate factory and takes them on a virtual tour of the surroundings.

Three out of four Swiss are smart on the road

78 percent of Swiss residents between the ages of 15 and 74—equivalent to about 4.9 million people—own a smartphone. While smartphone ownership continues to rise, the rate of growth is slowing, as shown by a representative survey conducted by Comparis.ch.

The market is still dominated by Apple's iPhone. Tablets are also becoming increasingly popular. 48% of Swiss people already own one of these gadgets.

Proportion of smartphone and tablet owners in Switzerland

After years of double-digit growth, smartphone penetration in Switzerland is gradually leveling off: over the past two years, the proportion of smartphone owners in the population has only risen by 9% - from 69% to currently 78%, according to a representative survey conducted by the Link market research institute on behalf of Comparis.ch (see box). "The market potential still allows for growth of around 22%. However, we assume that only low growth rates are to be expected due to the already high penetration", says Christoph Glaus, Comparis.ch's Digital & Telecom media spokesperson.

Smartphone wins with "silver surfers"

Among young Swiss aged 15 to 29, 97% of respondents own a smartphone, so there's not much left to pick up. 88% of representatives aged 30 to 49 use smartphones. 64% of 50 to 74-year-olds - the so-called "silver surfers" - are now at the cutting edge of mobile technology, compared to just 43% two years ago. There is still plenty of growth potential here.

Unbenannt-1_106

Apple - the pedestal is toppling

Although Switzerland remains firmly in the hands of Apple, the distribution of iPhones fell for the first time this year, to 54% (-2%) to be precise. The Android operating system is gaining ground and was able to snatch market volume from its competitors Microsoft and Apple this year with growth of 4%. Microsoft continues to struggle with market share and even lost one percent to its competitors with Android operating systems compared to 2014, meaning it currently has a penetration rate of 3%.

Tablets continue to offer great potential

Today, 48% of all Swiss people own a tablet. Two years ago, the figure was 40% and in 2012 only 14%. This means that 2.2 million Swiss between the ages of 15 and 74 currently have such a gadget. "Tablets are becoming increasingly popular and we expect this figure to rise noticeably over the next year," says Christoph Glaus, Digital & Telecom Media Spokesperson at Comparis.ch.

Unbenannt-2_125

The tablet business continues to be dominated by iPads, but here too the picture is similar to that of smartphones. The market share of Apple products currently stands at 60% and is therefore 4% below the 2014 result. This 4% is split between competitors with Android operating systems (3% growth) and tablets from Microsoft (1% growth).

Method
In a representative telephone survey, the Link market research institute interviewed 1202 people in January 2016. The respondents were aged between 15 and 74 and came from all language regions. The smartphone study was conducted for the fourth time.

Publicis: UBS is the better advisor

Emotions are a poor guide to successful investing. This is a fact that many people have learned the hard way. Publicis used this core idea to promote the UBS Manage and UBS Advice investment models.

Instead of being guided by one's own moods, it is advisable to rely on systematic processes in which the investment strategy is permanently reviewed and different scenarios are continuously calculated for each portfolio. A campaign mix of numerous offline and online measures was implemented, which are now being used in various media. People with different emotions are shown.

Fög evaluation: The enforcement initiative is reported on often and negatively

Half of all referendum reports deal with the Enforcement Initiative (DSI)—and the majority of them are negative. This is shown by an analysis conducted by the Research Institute for Public Opinion and Society (Fög) at the University of Zurich.

Schweiz am Sonntag cites an interim evaluation of the Media Vote Monitor from February 28, for which the FÖG analyzed 22 press titles from German- and French-speaking Switzerland. The definitive evaluation will be published by the FÖG next Friday.

This not only shows that the DSI received more than half of the total media coverage of the four referendum proposals, but also that the majority of reporting was negative. 61% of all media commentators have a negative stance. 23 percent expressed a positive view, while 17 percent took a neutral position. According to Linards Udris, deputy head of the FÖG, the DSI has a "similarly pronounced negative tenor" in the media as Ecopop. And there is also "similarly strong" mobilization against it in the media. While the media opposed a very small group with Ecopop, they are now positioning themselves against Switzerland's largest party.

In French-speaking Switzerland, the attitude of the media is also markedly negative, but media interest is significantly lower. In German-speaking Switzerland, the response is immediately extremely high as soon as the SVP is mentioned, explains Udris. Swiss-German media also focus strongly on differences within the SVP. In contrast to French-speaking Switzerland, the climate here is "extremely heated".

Only a few titles are positive about the DSI. Weltwoche is clearly in favor, while the Basler Zeitung "tends to be slightly sympathetic", says Udris. 20 Minuten also behaved conspicuously in the final evaluation, he anticipates. The DSI is a very important topic for the paper. It is viewed negatively and civil society is able to express itself in great detail. However, there is no substantial debate. "There is much less of an exchange of arguments than in other media," says Udris. (hae)

Please note our current Survey (right): Is the media reporting too negatively on the enforcement initiative?
