CP-Barometer attests to the increasing importance of social media
The European Institute for Corporate Publishing (EICP) has surveyed companies and service providers for the third time and published the results in the CP Barometer. According to the survey, both clients and service providers believe that social media will continue to grow in the future. Currently, however, fewer than half of all companies use this communication channel.
Companies and service providers see social media as a channel through which they can address new target groups cost-effectively and arouse emotions among users. Sales promotion or image cultivation, on the other hand, do not play a major role. Over 90 percent see the key to success in offering relevant and attractive content. Companies and service providers expect the greatest increase in importance for YouTube and Facebook. Twitter is viewed more positively by companies than by service providers.

The growing importance of social media in corporate publishing has consequences for budget allocation: nine out of ten respondents from companies and CP agencies predict rising or sharply rising expenditure on this form of communication. Three quarters of companies also assume that investments in online and mobile will grow in the future. Among service providers, over 85 percent believe this will be the case. In contrast, 45 percent of companies and 36 percent of service providers predict lower budgets for print media in 2010.
About the CP-Barometer
The industry barometer of the corporate publishing sector regularly provides information on current trends and developments in the German-speaking world. The online survey is conducted twice a year with a fixed group of participants from companies and CP service providers. The current edition is the third of its kind and was conducted in October by the European Institute for Corporate Publishing (EICP), Munich, and the Zurich-based market research agency Zehnvier on behalf of Forum Corporate Publishing. The Forum Corporate Publishing brings together around 100 CP providers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Zattoo: Free offer for iPhone expanded
Zattoo is expanding its free TV service on the iPhone and iPad. Instead of the previous 9 channels, users can now access 30 channels. The service is funded by short promotional videos that play when users switch channels.
Zattoo was launched in Switzerland in July 2006. The service receives TV channels such as SF and RTL via satellite and forwards them live and unchanged via the Internet. Zattoo has around 6.5 million registered users in six countries.
Anthracite no longer in printed form in future
The print edition of the Swiss magazine Anthrazit is being discontinued. After seven years, the publisher, Anthrazit AG, is discontinuing the print version of the digital lifestyle magazine and will focus entirely on content and products for the mobile Internet.
With the move from publishing house to software house, publishing director Gabriela Benz, who built up and expanded the publishing house with Christian Schwengeler, is leaving Anthrazit AG. Schwengeler intends to offer his expertise to publishers, tourism organizations, cities and other companies in the form of applications and data. For example with moPage, a construction kit for mobile websites, or with moApp, which generates iPhone and iPad applications.
Basler Zeitung: Wagner promises journalistic independence
Martin Wagner commented on the BaZ editorial team's open letter on Tuesday. He guarantees journalistic independence. The editorial team continues to express "serious concerns" and has asked the publisher in a new letter to terminate Blocher's consultancy mandate.
His interest as a publisher is to achieve a "respectable return" in order to give the recently loss-making company a future. Wagner did not want to disclose any details; budgeting has not yet been completed. No current profit figures are available due to the changeover from mid-year to year-end closing. Ownership has remained unchanged since the BZM takeover in February: He holds a quarter of the holding company, Tito Tettamanti three. Because nothing has changed, he sees no reason to question Editor-in-Chief Markus Somm, as the editorial team is now demanding. He has already appeared before the editorial team. (What Somm is said to have said about his role and the future of the Baz can be seen below. Tagi article to be taken).
Wagner sees the furor following an article in the NZZ am Sonntag on the Blocher mandate as an attack on the BaZ: if the BaZ model of an independent regional daily newspaper is successful, the shell and group models of other publishers are wrong. BaZ was now "confronted with suspicions", but was providing evidence to the contrary on a daily basis. Wagner explicitly denied that Christoph Blocher was exerting any influence on BaZ. He said that anyone who found this to be the case should please prove it and contact him, Wagner, then he would act as a publisher who takes his responsibility seriously.
Editors demand guarantees
However, the BaZ editorial team announced in the afternoon that it still had "serious reservations" about the Blocher firm's consultancy mandate. The meeting with Wagner and Somm had not been able to dispel these concerns, it said in a communiqué. In a new letter, the editorial team had asked Wagner to "terminate the consultancy mandate immediately and to publicly guarantee that Christoph Blocher is not involved in our company in any way". The editorial team considers the relationship of trust with Somm to be disturbed, but will nevertheless seek a discussion with him.
The letter to the publisher was approved by an editorial meeting by 64 votes to 3, according to the statement. In the communiqué, the editorial team also referred to reactions from the public, which were "massive". Numerous BaZ readers had canceled their subscriptions. Meanwhile, readers' letters columns and online pages are also full of comments. The writer Guy Krneta has launched a homepage appeal for an independent newspaper with the title "Save Basel!" According to the BaZ editorial team, over 4000 people have signed so far.
Wikipedia in search of donations
Wikipedia is asking its users for $16 million in donations. The money is needed to keep the online encyclopedia free and ad-free, according to an appeal published Monday by co-founder Jimmy Wales.
Last but not least: Capuchins are looking for monks via job advertisement
Being a monk this way of life was generally regarded as a calling rather than a profession. However, since fewer and fewer young men feel called to the monastic life, the Capuchin friars are now seeking new brothers through job advertisements.
The job advertisements are not the first time that the Capuchins in German-speaking Switzerland have broken new ground: the order also offers the opportunity to become a "temporary brother" and live in the community of monks for three to six years. The Capuchins also sell fan articles via their professionally designed website, such as this trendy hooded sweater:

And, who would have thought it, for once the French-speaking part of Switzerland is more conservative: the Capuchins there, like those in Ticino, want nothing to do with the new tools. They do not have their own website, nor do they take part in the job advertisements.
