CA-Media: Cabaret artist promotes web videos

CA-Media has hired comedian Rolf Schmid for an advertising campaign. The campaign is intended to highlight that CA-Media is also at home in the world of entertainment and culture.

Audience favorite Rolf Schmid is a defining figure on the Swiss cabaret scene. His "I mag eifach nid" ("I just don't like it") has long been part of our country's treasure trove of quotes. Studies show that people are reading less and less on the Internet, whereas web videos are on the rise. By 2013, the share of video consumption in web user traffic is expected to rise to 90 percent. Against the backdrop of this revolutionary development, CA-Media's advertising campaign finds in the Grisons cabaret artist the perfect mouthpiece for all those who no longer like reading websites ("I just don't like it"), but prefer to watch informative and entertaining web videos.
For Flavio Camenzind, Managing Director of CA-Media, the collaboration with Rolf Schmid has yet another component. "Because we produce ZSC Lions TV, the first club-owned web TV of a Swiss sports club, we are often associated with the world of sport," explains Camenzind. The advertising campaign with a living legend of Swiss cabaret is intended to make it clear that CA-Media is also at home in the world of entertainment and culture and produces great projects such as web videos, event reports and web TV."
The radio spot with Rolf Schmid can be heard on Radio 24 every morning and evening for three weeks from next Monday. The film version is available on YouTube and on www.ca-media.ch.

Viral Video Award 2010: Political virals come out on top

On Friday evening, as part of the «Virals» category at the 26th Berlin International Short Film Festival, the Viral Video Award—presented by Interfilm and Zucker.Kommunikation—was awarded to the best viral videos of the year.

The audience award went to the viral "Nice Game" by Tilman Egel. The short animation received by far the most and highest ratings in the online voting. The film deals with the topic of child soldiers and shows the two realities in which they find themselves: innocent play on the one hand and brutal violence on the other. A total of almost 20,000 users took part in the online voting.

Journalist Mario Sixtus ("Elektrischer Reporter", ZDF), TV presenter and author Petra Gute ("Stilbruch", RBB) and actor Daniel Zillmann ("NVA", "Schwarze Schafe") made up the expert jury for the 2010 award. They selected "Nestlé, no palm oil from virgin forest destruction!" by Greenpeace as the best viral. The jury's reasoning: Greenpeace's palm oil commercial was the video with the greatest impact and the highest virality. In addition, the film not only sensitized many people to the problem of palm oil production, but also achieved its goal. Nestlé had to respond to the criticism. With this film, the makers proved that virals can make a difference, the jury concluded.

The award for the best political viral on the topics of climate, democracy and justice, presented for the first time this year by the Heinrich Böll Foundation, went to "Polar Bear", which addresses the climate-damaging effects of air travel. According to the jury, the video by Daniel Kleinman conveys a clear message in a very short time without many words and with extremely strong images that stick.

The film "Ode to a Post-it Note" received an honorable mention for its original and touching thematization of the question of one's own origins in a mixture of animation, music and editing.

Daniel Kreuscher from Zucker.Kommunikation is convinced that the growing spread of social networks such as Facebook will also increase the importance of viral videos. Virals have proven to be an effective tool in political communication in particular. Political virals in particular were much discussed in online voting and received the best ratings. The example of Greenpeace/Nestlé also shows that virals can actually make a difference, Kreuscher concluded.

The 2010 Viral Video Awards were sponsored by the Heinrich Böll Foundation, the Berlin state initiative Projekt Zukunft and Ritter Sport. The prize money amounted to 1000 euros each.
The award received media support from the political blog Netzpolitik.org and the social bookmarking service Mister Wong, among others.

Small wage increases for the graphic arts industry

Graphic designers and printers will have to make do with small wage increases: The Swiss Association for Visual Communication Viscom recommends a wage adjustment of up to 0.8 percent for 2011. The trade unions are demanding an increase of up to 2.5 percent.

However, the employers' association Viscom and the trade unions have agreed that the graphic arts industry has still not recovered from the crisis, Viscom wrote in a press release on Thursday, according to SDA. For this reason, the companies would have to decide on their own wage policy depending on their economic situation.

Newspapers apologize for printing false Michael Douglas interview

The Cologne-based publishing group M. DuMont Schauberg (MDS) has apologized for publishing a fake interview with Hollywood star Michael Douglas in several of its publications.

In a statement published in advance on Thursday, which was to appear in the newspapers concerned on Friday, the publication of the article is described as a "terrible mistake": The interview, which had appeared earlier in the week, had turned out to be a fake.
"The author of the alleged interview, a German Hollywood correspondent, has since admitted that it was not him but the internet service 'TMZ' that conducted the alleged interview," MDS announced. The cooperation with the journalist was then immediately terminated. The interview was published on Monday in the Berliner Kurier, the Kölner Express and the Hamburger Morgenpost.
When asked by the news agency dapd in New York on Wednesday evening, Douglas' spokesman Allen Burry said that the actor had "never" spoken to the author of the alleged interview. Douglas had only spoken to the US magazine "People" when he was diagnosed with cancer. He only gave further interviews this week. The aforementioned author was not present.
In the alleged interview, Douglas was quoted as making very personal statements about his cancer and problems with his ex-wife and their son.

Marco Fritsche is the figurehead of the campaign: "I didn't have to think twice when I received the request from ISA Bodywear. After all, this project is about a cause that cannot be explained enough. I am delighted to be able to make a contribution with my involvement."

"The International Advertising Festival" becomes "The International Festival of Creativity"

The organizers of the Cannes Lions Festival announced on Thursday that, effective immediately, the event will be known as «The International Festival of Creativity» rather than «The International Advertising Festival.».

When the festival was launched in 1954, only TV and cinema advertising was judged, according to a press release issued on Thursday. A lot has changed in recent years and today communication is judged in the broadest sense. The name has therefore been adapted.
In 2011, the jury will award Lions in 13 categories: Film, Press, Outdoor, Cyber, Media, Direct, Radio, Promo & Activation, Design, PR, Film Craft, Titanium & Integrated, and Creative Effectiveness.
