Tamedia/Edipresse: Marketing Contract Awarded to Adextra

The online marketplaces of Edipresse and Tamedia, which are consolidated under a joint online classifieds organization, have commissioned the newly founded marketing agency Adextra to handle their advertising sales. Through this partnership with Adextra, the previously decentralized marketing efforts are to be professionalized and expanded.

Edipresse and Tamedia’s online marketplaces include Homegate.ch, Switzerland’s leading real estate portal; the job platforms Alpha.ch, Jobwinner.ch, and Jobup.ch; the automotive platform Car4you.ch; and Swissfriends.ch, Switzerland’s largest dating site. In addition to traditional reach-based placements, the marketplaces—in collaboration with Adextra—offer their customers integrated sponsorship concepts and interest-based
"Targeting options," according to a Tamedia press release.
Adextra, a company specializing in marketing, was founded in May 2010 by Roger Blaser. In recent years, he has worked for Uphighmedia, Adlink Internet Media, and the St. Galler Tagblatt, among others. Starting in January 2011, Dominik Lämmler joined Adextra as a second partner. Until the end of 2010, he will head the advertising division of the Newsnetz network, which includes Baslerzeitung.ch, Bernerzeitung.ch, Derbund.ch, and Tagesanzeiger.ch. Previously, he worked at Uphighmedia, as sales manager at 20 Minuten Online, and at Adlink Internet Media, among other roles.

Optimized reception of Radio Zürisee in the canton of Glarus

Starting immediately, Radio Zürisee’s programming can be heard in higher quality throughout the Glarus region. Switzerland’s third-largest private radio station has begun operating its new FM transmitter at the Äugsten-Bärenboden site.

This transmitter enables optimized reception in the town of Glarus and in the Grosstal valley on the new 89.7 MHz frequency. With the commissioning of the Äugsten-Bärenboden FM facility, Radio Zürisee has now found an ideal solution in collaboration with the Federal Office of Communications OFCOM, according to a Radio Zürisee press release. The Äugsten-Bärenboden site replaces the Haslen transmitter. The investment costs for the Äugsten-Bärenboden transmitter amount to CHF 300,000. This makes it Radio Zürisee's most expensive FM installation.

Ruf Lanz for the VBZ: Santa Clauses Switch to Trams and Buses

Thanks to the VBZ's frequent service, even Santa Claus can do without his sleigh—and save himself the hassle of traffic and the search for a parking spot.

Ruf Lanz demonstrates in a pointed way—with the latest VBZ ad—that switching to public transit is especially worthwhile during Advent. In the ad, Klaus and Schmutzli have simply abandoned their donkey at the tram stop on Limmatquai.
The theme is currently being used in advertisements and on posters. On Facebook, the VBZ has also encouraged users to write their own personal Christmas stories based on it.

Four Journalists Arrested in Iran

In Iran, the editor-in-chief of the leading reformist newspaper *Shark* and three other journalists have been arrested.

The public prosecutor’s office announced this, as reported by the Isna news agency on Wednesday, according to SDA. «They were arrested for violating security regulations, and their cases are under investigation,» the statement said. According to media reports, those arrested include Schark editor-in-chief Ahmad Gholami and three other journalists from the newspaper.
Schark reappeared for the first time last April after a three-year ban stemming from an interview with a gay rights activist. In the wake of the protests following the controversial reelection of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in mid-2009, various newspapers and magazines aligned with the reformists were banned, and numerous critical journalists were imprisoned.

The statement notes that Le Temps has been guided by a pioneering spirit, high standards, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Preparations to comply with the standard began 12 months ago. Subsequently, the media company’s operations were subjected to an external and independent audit with the goal of obtaining the ISAS BCP 9001:2010 certificate.

Green Awards: KSB in the final twice for Coop

Coop and KSB have a joint success to celebrate: Both the TV commercial «C'est réel» featuring rapper Stress and the Oecoplan print ad («For everyone who comes after us.») made it to the finals at the Green Awards for Creativity in Sustainability in London.

Stress' TV spot in the "Best Green Moving Image" category was even singled out by the jury as "highly commendable for continuity" at the awards ceremony on December 2, according to a statement, as Coop had already reached the final last year with Stress' "On n'a qu'une terre."

Last but not least: Treated poorly, half-sold?

A U.S. online retailer wanted to draw attention to his website in a rather unusual way: He treated his customers particularly poorly, harassed them, and threatened them.

Many (albeit negative) reviews = more frequent appearances in Google searches = more revenue. That was his reasoning. But his plan backfired: He has since been arrested and is facing charges in court for various fraud offenses, stalking, and making threatening statements. The judge denied his request for release on bail due to suspected psychotic personality disorders.
Incidentally, his website, DecorMyEyes, has since been appearing in a surprisingly prominent position on Google. However, according to the press release, it is impossible to determine whether this was actually due to the unusual «advertisement.» In any case, Google has since responded: In the future, it will penalize companies that treat their customers extremely poorly.

Swiss Media Forum, held for the first time in May 2011

The Swiss Media Forum marks the first time a nationwide conference has been held to bring together opinion leaders from the media, business, and politics. The event takes place every spring; the first edition will be held on May 12 and 13, 2011, at the KKL Lucerne.

According to the press release, the Swiss Media Forum is aimed at executives from new and traditional media, as well as from the fields of communications and advertising; at CEOs of high-profile companies; and at representatives from the political sphere. The goal of the Swiss Media Forum is to facilitate the exchange of ideas and mutual inspiration—against the backdrop of media transformation, which is reshaping the business models of media companies and redefining the interfaces between the public, businesses, and politics.
The theme of the Swiss Media Forum 2011 is: «New and Old Media—Together or Against Each Other?» The rise of social media and new mobile devices is fundamentally changing the way people use media. What does this mean for publishers, for corporate communications, and for politicians who want to reach the public? What will advertising, election campaigns, and journalism look like in the future? Is the iPad overrated? Is there a revival of the newspaper on the horizon? What are the trends coming out of the U.S. and Asia? These and other topics will be debated. High-profile speakers from Switzerland and abroad will take the stage, present success stories, and discuss controversial topics in panel discussions.
The Swiss Media Forum was initiated by Patrik Müller, editor-in-chief of the newspaper *Der Sonntag*. It is an independent, cross-media event with broad support, and its advisory board includes the following individuals:
Frank Bodin, CEO of Euro RSCG Switzerland
Pascale Bruderer Wyss, Member of the National Council
Miriam Meckel, Professor of Communication Management at the University of St. Gallen (HSG) and Faculty Associate at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, USA
Catherine Mühlemann, co-owner of Andmann Mediaholding, media entrepreneur, and member of the board of directors
Pietro Supino, publisher and chairman of the board of directors of Tamedia
Peter Wanner, Publisher and Chairman of the Board of Directors of AZ Medien
Roger de Weck, Director General-designate of SRG SSR
The Advisory Board provides guidance on setting the agenda and selecting the speakers who will appear at the Swiss Media Forum. This is based on an entrepreneurial, technology-friendly, positive, forward-looking, and ethically committed approach.
About 350 participants are expected to attend the first Swiss Media Forum. Details about the program and the speakers will be announced in February 2011.

SFLB: Five Gold-Winning Films at Eurobest

A major success for Spillmann/Felser/Leo Burnett in Hamburg: At the 23rd Eurobest on Wednesday evening, five Sunrise films were awarded gold.

The commercials humorously depict today's texting habits. In other words, people text a lot, but they don't necessarily say much. The commercials won a gold award at the Epica Awards just a few weeks ago.
The SFLB creative team considers the praise from Mark Tutssel—global Creative Director at Leo Burnett and this year’s Cannes jury president—to be just as significant as these awards, as the agency notes in a press release. A few days ago, a team led by Tutssel awarded the commercials an «8-Ball.» This distinction is given to work that scores above 8 on Leo Burnett’s 7+ system.
