Ogilvy & Mather: Continued commitment to the ASRA Foundation

Ogilvy & Mather Zurich continues to support the ASRA Foundation («Action for Self-Reliance and Alternatives»). This year, the advertising agency redesigned the foundation’s website and organized a Christmas fundraising campaign.

The Swiss-based ASRA Foundation is active in New Delhi and has been helping disabled children in the slums of the Indian metropolis since 1995. This year, the appeal for donations comes in the form of a one-legged cake. The foundation's website has also been redesigned and a short film about ASRA's activities in New Delhi has been edited. With the new appearance, the foundation and agency want to give the concerns of the young people affected more space and presence and attract attention to the individual projects.
Ogilvy & Mather has been running a fundraising campaign for ASRA every Christmas for the past five years. In this campaign, the agency's clients help determine the amount of the donation, for example by writing a Christmas story, folding an origami Santa Claus or similar activities. For each customer contribution, the agency donates a certain amount of money to ASRA.

US study: iPad readers cancel print subscriptions

Reading newspapers on the iPad is popular. As a result, users are apparently increasingly doing without print copies and canceling their print subscriptions.

This is shown by a study by the Reynolds Journalism Institute (RJI). The institute has launched a multi-year research project to find out how iPad users consume news content. According to initial surveys, both usage time and satisfaction among consumers are very high. According to the survey, over nine out of ten prefer the iPad to newspaper websites. Around 58 percent of users who use the Apple tablet as a news source for around one hour a day also stated that they would cancel their print subscriptions in the next six months. In addition, around ten percent of users who use the iPad to read newspapers claim to have already canceled their print subscription.

Ruf Lanz advertises with bad sound for Selmi recording studio

Ruf Lanz created a concept for the Selmi recording studio. The concept is intended to make it clear that poor sound quality can ruin even the best product.

The ad features owner Renzo Selmi's Harley, whose exhaust has been unceremoniously replaced by a vuvuzela. The subject appears double-sided in the advertising trade press.

Own newspaper on the web

With the Paper.li web service, anyone can create a web newspaper in just a few minutes. The service is similar to Google News, offered by the search engine giant. The only difference is that here, people select the content themselves.

Anyone with a Twitter or Facebook account can create their own web newspaper. You log in with the user data of the respective social network and then choose a specific topic for the newspaper. For example, "Wikileaks", "Football" or something more specific such as "FC Bayern will never be German champions again". The system then searches Facebook or Twitter for short entries with web links to newspaper articles, images or videos on the selected topic, as the Sonntagszeitung writes. The entries found are compiled daily in the newspaper layout and can be accessed in future using addresses such as Paper.li/ wikileaks. The service can be compared with Google News, the Sonntagszeitung continues. The big difference is that humans, not algorithms and machines, are responsible for selecting the articles.

Donation advertisements for new Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior lll

Hundreds of free classified ads are currently posted on bulletin boards at construction supply stores and supermarkets from Geneva to Zurich. The title of these classified ads, disguised as private listings, reads «Ship parts starting at 5 francs.» The ad, disguised as a bargain, is a call from Greenpeace to participate in a ship project.

If you dial the handwritten telephone number on the tear-off slips, you will hear a German or French voice encouraging you to make a contribution to the construction of the new Rainbow Warrior lll. A donation is possible for as little as 5 francs and is intended to help Greenpeace rejuvenate its ageing fleet. The advertisements, which show a typical part of a ship, will also be placed as small ads in various weekly newspapers. The aim of the campaign is to finance the construction of a modern, ecological ship that is specially tailored to the needs of the environmental organization, according to a Greenpeace press release.
As the organization does not receive funding from governments, economic powers and politicians, it relies on private donations. To date, 12 million francs have already been pledged to the organization. Greenpeace Switzerland would like to raise 1.7 million of the remaining 18 million. This amount is to be raised through the ongoing campaign over the next few months. Greenpeace has set up a website where direct donations for a specific part of the ship can be made online. Curious visitors can take a look at the shipyard in Amsterdam, where the ship is currently being built, via Livecam. The website and the guerrilla campaign were developed and launched in collaboration with Zurich-based Rebel Communication.
The ship will not only be used for the organization's activities, but will also provide a place for scientists to carry out and document their environmental analyses directly on board. In addition, thanks to a satellite-based communication system on board, live images from the scene of the respective environmental crime will be sent directly from the ship to the media all over the world. Even if the Rainbow Warrior lll is attacked and boarded as an unwelcome guest, it can continue broadcasting from a steel-walled radio and server room.
