Republica surprises field hockey fans for Swisscom TV 2.0

Republica promoted Swisscom TV 2.0's live sports and movie lineup with an extraordinary live production during the SCB vs. ZSC Lions playoff game.

The more than 17,000 spectators in the stadium were surprised with a novel, interactive mix of 3D projection, live performers, music and pyro effects. The spectacle was broadcast beyond the stadium via live transmission and online seeding. This is because Swisscom TV 2.0's digital television offering includes not only the best film entertainment, but also a wide range of live sports, including the broadcast of all NLA field hockey games, the Bern-based creative agency said in a statement.

Republica promoted this encounter on the occasion of the play-off match SCB - ZSC with an innovative live production. For this purpose, the match program was thrown off course at the moment of the first player's entrance by the sudden onset of a spectacular projection show. As a novelty, the performer was interactively integrated into the animated story. He became the pawn in a dramatic sequence of film scenes that alluded to Hollywood blockbusters. The finale linked the story on the ice with the big screen in the stadium. The resolution: Swisscom TV 2.0. - where the best entertainment meets the best field hockey.

The live action was further disseminated transmedially: In addition to inviting well-connected personalities from sports, entertainment and media to achieve sharing and PR, the show was broadcast directly by TV partner Teleclub. It was also streamed by Swisscom via Facebook Live - a first for a national brand. The media strategy is complemented by the distribution of videos on social media and various commercial platforms.

The ad for Swisscom TV 2.0 made headlines on the front page of Blick.ch and Bernerzeitung.ch that very evening and has since already achieved more than 500,000 views across all channels. Behind the production are several months of planning and coordination, state-of-the-art technology and meticulous rehearsals with the performer. It is the first major project of the new service brand Republica Live, which emerged from a cooperation with the Bernexpo Group and specializes in transmedia brand staging. Located in the same agency premises, Republica Live can draw directly on Republica's full-service offering for this purpose.

Study shows reactions to video advertising via various channels

A neuromarketing study by Yume, Horizon Media, and Nielsen shows that video ads elicit different user responses on different platforms.

Yume, a global provider of audience targeting technology based on data-driven insights and multi-platform expertise, conducted a study in collaboration with the media agency Horizon Media and the research firm Nielsen to examine emotional reactions to video ads on smartphones, tablets, desktops, and television—including linear TV—were examined. The study used biometric measurements and eye-tracking to assess the subconscious influence of video ads across various platforms on consumers’ emotional responses.

The study’s findings show that, while all platforms have the potential to capture and retain users’ attention, the intensity of reactions and the point in a video where they are strongest vary significantly, and that each device exhibits its own reaction patterns. The findings include several best practices designed to help advertisers increase the effectiveness of their ads across different platforms.

Key findings:

– Showcase your presence on mobile and TV: Video ads generated particularly strong reactions on smartphones and tablets.

– Get right to the point: Engagement spikes sharply across all platforms in the first ten seconds of the ad, though there are also significant differences:

* Smartphones generate the highest level of attention among all devices at the outset. Therefore, the brand message should be communicated very early on.
* Tablet users are more likely to remain attentive for longer periods of time.
* Laptop users show the greatest variability in their emotional responses.
* Linear television typically shows a second peak in viewer engagement toward the end, when the commercial break traditionally occurs.

– Brevity is key: Across all platforms, it was observed that 15-second ads were the most effective at maintaining high levels of attention.

– Harnessing human connection: People who address the user directly elicit a stronger emotional response.

You can find the complete study results here: YuMe.com/Research.

Methodology:

The study was conducted by Nielsen on behalf of Yume and focused on English-language mobile video advertising. Study participants were men and women aged 18 to 34 who watch more than 5 hours of television per month, own and regularly use a laptop, tablet, or smartphone, and visit an online video site at least once a month. The study was conducted in a laboratory setting with a total of 180 participants. Participants were equipped with the Nielsen biometric belt system, which measured real-time biometric data such as heart rate, respiration, movement, and galvanic skin responses to stimuli from video content and advertisements. The participants watched 30 minutes of television, including several commercials. They then watched short videos for 20 minutes on a laptop, tablet, or smartphone, which also included video advertisements. Distractions from using a second screen during the television viewing period were permitted in order to accurately reflect natural television viewing behavior. No distractions were allowed when using tablets, laptops, or mobile devices.

Last but not least: boozing for peace

The Glanzenburger student fraternity in Zurich launched its crowdfunding project, «Drinking for Peace,» on February 29. If they raise more than 10,000 francs through this campaign, the entire amount will go to the Red Cross.

For 100 days, students can donate beer, which they have to drink on one evening in July. Charity doesn't have to be a dry affair, says Martin Fussen, alumni president of the fraternity, describing the campaign in a press release as unique in Switzerland to date. The Zurich students are counting on donations for various reasons: "While some want to do something good for people in need, others will donate just to give the fraternity a good buzz."

The campaign is available on the Swiss crowdfunding platform 100-Days to find and Donations donations can be made by credit card, SMS or Paypal. Donations of over 2,000 francs were received in the first two days of the campaign.

The fact that the association has not set an upper limit for its collection campaign seems somewhat risky. Regarding the "danger" of a major success, the project initiator said that they really didn't yet know how they wanted to deal with several hundred liters of beer. (uma)

Goldbach increases net profit to CHF 7 million

The Goldbach Group posted higher net earnings in 2015. Net income after taxes and minority interests rose to 7.0 million Swiss francs, up from 2.5 million Swiss francs the previous year. This was driven in part by extraordinary items.

An extraordinary result, in particular from the sale of the businesses in the Adriatic market region, contributed 0.8 million. In the previous year, in turn, the withdrawal from loss-making businesses had brought Goldbach extraordinary expenses of CHF 3.0 million. Goldbach has since concentrated on its core businesses as a marketing services provider in the Swiss, German and Austrian markets. But profitability also increased, Goldbach announced Tuesday. Operating profit before depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) grew by 2.5 percent to 28.1 million Swiss francs. Operating profit before interest and taxes (EBIT) increased by 5.9 percent to 25.6 million Swiss francs. For example, profitability in the business of marketing TV advertising in Switzerland increased due to economies of scale and increased cost efficiency, according to the statement. Indeed, sales from this business increased by 6.4 percent in 2015.

Sales from advertising marketing in Switzerland - the Group's biggest revenue pillar - increased overall by 5.1 percent to CHF 414.2 million. Group-wide, sales rose by 1.4 percent to CHF 470 million. Adjusted for divestment and foreign currency effects, sales would have increased by 4.2 percent. One drop of bitterness is the Marketing Services division with the marketing agency Goldbach Interactive. Here, a loss of CHF 1.2 million was incurred at EBITDA level. Incisive measures had already been taken in the course of the reporting year, Goldbach wrote. Among other things, jobs were cut. (SDA)

Last but not least: The art of getting noticed

In New York, many talented but unknown artists are denied access to the big stage. Canon and the Grey agency changed that with a guerrilla marketing campaign.

As part of the 25th anniversary (!) of the legendary EOS Rebel digital SLR camera, Canon is highlighting various "Rebels with A Cause" (in reference to James Dean's classic film "Rebel without a Cause"). This includes the successful hip-hop producer Swizz Beatz. He is bothered by the fact that in New York's art scene felt, politics and relationships are apparently more important than talent and ability. This is probably not only the case in New York, but in many other places. Many who would be good never get the chance to convince a wider public of their skills. And thus make it inside the thick museum walls. Grey took advantage of these walls and put the unknown artists at the center of attention for one night with a giant projection. (hae)
