SFLB: Informed about organ donation for the FOPH

On Monday, the FOPH launched its public information campaign on the transplantation and donation of organs, tissues, and cells. The slogan of the campaign, created by Spillmann/Felser/Leo Burnett, is: «Everyone has the right to express their wishes.».

This year's campaign by the Federal Office of Public Health FOPH focuses on providing new and less well-known information. Even those who are against donation should fill out a donation card and inform their relatives of their wishes. If you keep your opinion to yourself, your relatives will be asked at your deathbed what should happen to the organs. This is still too little known among the population, according to the agency's press release.

The new campaign attempts to close this knowledge gap in the population: it allows people who are in favor of organ donation, but also those who are against it, to have their say. Each side presents its arguments and personal motives. The FOPH agrees with both sides - because they do not keep their opinions to themselves, but express them. Hence the campaign slogan: "Everyone is right: they express their will."

The various votes can be seen and heard on numerous advertising channels. At the center is a series of TV commercials made by Swiss director Alain Gsponer, who lives in Germany. The different opinions are also expressed in online banners and brochures (PDF) for more statements of intent on organ donation.

On the microsite Transplantinfo.ch anyone can also find out more about donating organs, tissue and cells. And then express their wishes. For this purpose, a donation card can be filled out online and printed out, and the website also offers the option of recording the personal decision on video and sending it to relatives.

Federal Court ruling: "10vor10" did not violate the principle of fairness

The SF news magazine "10vor10" did not violate the principle of fairness with its reports on possible side effects of the contraceptive pill Yasmin did not violate the principle of fairness. With this finding, the Federal Supreme Court supports a decision by the Independent Complaints Authority (Ubi).

Last summer, Ubi rejected a complaint by Yasmin manufacturer Bayer (Switzerland) against the reporting in the program "10vor10". However, the pharmaceutical company did not want to accept this and took the case to the Federal Supreme Court. Here, too, Bayer (Switzerland) was unsuccessful insofar as the Federal Supreme Court accepted the appeal. According to the ruling published on Thursday, the company must pay the court costs of CHF 3,000.

In May 2009, Swiss television's "10vor10" reported on a 16-year-old girl who suffered a pulmonary embolism after taking Yasmin and has been severely disabled ever since. Based on this case, the news magazine made possible side effects of contraceptives the subject of two further programs. Bayer (Switzerland) subsequently criticized that the "manipulative" reports falsely gave the impression that Yasmin was particularly dangerous. The legally enshrined requirement of fairness had therefore been violated. Like Ubi, however, the Federal Supreme Court has now come to the conclusion that this was not the case.

Individual elements questioned in a tendentious manner

The programs did not claim that Yasmin was more dangerous than other contraceptive pills. Rather, the question had been raised as to whether this was the case. The complainant had repeatedly had the opportunity to comment on the allegations, the federal judges found. Moreover, "10vor10" had pointed out that other contraceptive pills could also cause side effects. The federal judges admitted that "10vor10" had questioned individual elements in a tendentious manner. However, even in this case, the advocacy and critical viewpoint of the broadcasts was recognizable to the audience.

"In summary, it can be seen that the disputed contributions as a whole could have been designed differently and possibly better in individual points," the reasons for the ruling state. However, this is not sufficient to justify regulatory intervention by the UBI. (SDA)

Ruf Lanz: Commercial break in the cinema reinterpreted for VBZ

The commercial break at the beginning and the intermission have always been part of the movie-going experience. Ruf Lanz is reinterpreting both in Zurich’s arthouse theaters, thereby promoting the City of Zurich’s public transportation system.

Two cinema slides at the beginning of the commercial break declare it as a postponement of the start of the film for those moviegoers who are still looking for a parking space. And another slide after the first half of the film declares the break to be a coin-flip break for drivers. The cinema slides are an accompanying measure in the context of the VBZ campaign and are to show the urban public once again: It pays to change trains.

Affichage divests its involvement in Greece

Affichage has decided to terminate its business activities in Greece with immediate effect and to hand over its operations to a Greek competitor.

Affichage is thus consistently implementing its new foreign strategy, which aims to focus on profitable markets, the company wrote in a press release on Thursday. By ending its involvement in Greece, the company has been able to eliminate a loss-making legacy of its former expansion strategy in the interests of shareholders and the Group as a whole.

Over time, these measures will enable the Group to focus its resources on strengthening its market leadership in Switzerland in line with its strategy.

According to the press release, this transaction has no influence on the legal steps already initiated against P. Vrionis and other persons associated with him. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

NZZ available in the Kindle Shop

Last week, the Kindle Shop was launched on Amazon.de. The NZZ Media Group is the first media company in Switzerland to offer its titles Neue Zürcher Zeitung and NZZ am Sonntag on it.

In the new German-language Kindle Shop, the two NZZ titles can now be purchased as a combined subscription for 29.99 euros per month or individually for 2.99 euros per issue. This means that the NZZ subscription costs the same as that of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung - with the difference that the latter does not include a Sunday edition.

The Kindle Shop currently comprises a total of over 650,000 book titles in electronic form, including more than 25,000 German-language books. Newspapers such as Handelsblatt, Die Zeit, Le Monde and the Financial Times are also available in the store. USA: Profit slump at the New York Times

Profits at the publishing house of the renowned US newspaper New York Times plummeted by 58 percent in the first quarter.

The company earned 5.4 million dollars from January to March. In the same period a year earlier, it had earned 12.8 million dollars. Turnover fell by four percent to 567 million dollars. The company blamed falling revenues in the advertising business for the slump in profits. (SDA)
