IAB Switzerland: Apps are hardly ever paid for

One-third of the German-speaking Swiss population owns a smartphone. While people do use apps, most users get by with just a handful. Free apps are particularly in demand, as shown by a representative survey conducted by the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB Switzerland).

According to the survey conducted in spring 2011, three quarters have mobile Internet access. Only six percent have no mobile device at all. The proportion of laptop owners is particularly high, while that of tablet users is smaller (under six percent).

On conventional cell phones with Internet access, the browser is rarely used. According to IAB Switzerland, business purposes predominate among smartphone owners, with the main use still being making phone calls. Apps are used, but most respondents get by with ten or fewer apps. There are very clear differences in willingness to pay: money is most frequently paid for online game apps. All other apps are clearly behind. Three quarters of smartphone users prefer free apps that are financed via advertising. Even though many believe that paid apps are comparatively better quality.

Demand for smartphones present

The online association believes that the saturation point has not been reached by a long shot. More than a third of those surveyed were planning to buy a smartphone - eight percent within the next six months. Eight out of ten respondents were even convinced that mobile Internet access would be an indispensable part of life in the future.

Within the framework of the recently founded "Mobile Task Force. IAB Switzerland intends to develop further studies, publications and events in the future. The aim is to provide well-founded information, data and insights into the mobile landscape for advertisers, agencies and all market participants. The group is headed by Philipp Scheidegger, Head of Advertising at Swisscom.

Press Council: Weltwoche has insufficiently verified anonymous sources

The Swiss Press Council has partially upheld a complaint against *Die Weltwoche*. It criticized the weekly newspaper for failing to carefully verify the claims made by two anonymous sources before publication. Furthermore, it stated that the newspaper corrected the false report too late and only inadequately.

In June 2010, Weltwoche reported in its "People Control" column that the Judicial Commission of the United Federal Assembly had promised an applicant for a judgeship at the Federal Patent Court an "illegal bonus" in the form of a supplement of CHF 30'000 per year on top of the starting salary, in violation of regulations. The court commission immediately denied this. It was not until September 2010 that Weltwoche stated that the Commission had not formally violated the law, but that it had violated the "internal guideline for setting judges' salaries.

The Press Council partially upholds the complaint filed by the Judicial Commission against Weltwoche. Before the first publication, the weekly magazine would have been obliged to confront the commission with the accusation, according to the statement of the Press Council. The clarification, which came only three and a half months after the publication of the first report, was also too late and incomplete. Weltwoche should at least have pointed out that the commission denied any irregularities. The Press Council, on the other hand, does not consider the requirement of fairness in research to have been violated. Weltwoche was allowed to publish the information it had received through an indiscretion and to criticize the Commission's behavior towards its journalist.

Last but not least: Love happiness for zombies and ugly people

There are now many dating sites—they often cater to people in a specific age group or with specific interests. What people have been looking for in vain, however, is a platform for lonely zombies.

This is now a thing of the past: Zombie Harmony fills this gap and also gives the undead a chance for romantic togetherness. Anyone who visits the site and then spontaneously remembers that they are not a zombie at all will be directed to the site Mingle2.com forwarded - a nice publicity stunt, the zombie page.

And if you're not a zombie but consider yourself similarly unattractive, you can rely on Theuglybugball.com register: This is a British dating platform especially for ugly people, affectionately called "aesthetically disadvantaged" by the site's founder. Beautiful people don't stand a chance there: every new member is checked individually to see if they really are ugly enough.

Rod Kommunikation: Campaign realized for Sinalco

The agency Rod Kommunikation has created a campaign for Sinalco. The products Sinalco Original and Sinalco Cola are brought into focus.

The subjects, which appear on posters, print and online, are intended to bring the brand even closer to its young audience, Sinalco writes in a statement. The brand has proven that it is resistant to trends, which is why the new campaign takes its usual relaxed and witty approach to entertaining trends. Ramseier Suisse CEO Jann Gehri, whose company also owns the Sinalco brand, sees the campaign as an opportunity: "Sinalco is and always has been good. This constant gives the brand a carefree composure. With this composure, hyperactive trends in an accelerated world can be taken for a ride in a laconic way. Because Sinalco is still a piece of an ideal world."

Tibère Adler leaves Edipresse

Long-time CEO Tibère Adler will leave the western Swiss media company Edipresse at the end of June. The company will be led by Chairman Pierre Lamunière as of July 1.

At its General Meeting on June 6, 2011, the Edipresse Group bid farewell to its Chief Executive Officer Tibère Adler, who will step down from his post at the end of June. Tibère Adler, 48, was appointed CEO of the Edipresse Group in February 2005, having worked with the company since early 1989.

Since 2009, a profound change in strategy has been brought about in the Edipresse Group, splitting the group into two divisions with distinctly different strategies, according to a statement Monday. In Switzerland, Edipresse and Tamedia have joined forces to carry out an operational merger of their entire press businesses, it said. In the other business areas, Edipresse intends to strengthen not only its own activities as a publisher of magazines, but also its Internet and real estate market business, it said. The date originally set for the implementation of these business objectives had been set for the end of 2012.

This strategic development phase has now been completed, the statement continues. In Switzerland, Tamedia succeeded in anticipating the upturn in its business activities as a publisher of daily newspapers in April 2011. In the other business areas, the Edipresse Group had already been able to operate in the black in 2010. In addition, Lamunière SA had launched its public share purchase offer for the remaining share capital of Edipresse-SA. This is intended to create a purely family-owned company and to forego a stock exchange listing in Switzerland. Tibère Adler had contributed in a fundamental way to the implementation of this strategy. He is leaving the Group in harmony with the Board of Directors and the shareholders. He leaves behind a solid company that stands on a healthy foundation.

Reorganization of corporate management

As a result of this personnel movement, the management of Edipresse will be reorganized as of July 1, 2011. Pierre Lamunière, Chairman and Executive Director, will henceforth assume general management of the company. The current Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Michel Preiswerk will assume expanded functions as Chief Operating Officer (COO). The rest of the General Management will remain unchanged.

Tibère Adler will continue to be associated with Edipresse on the basis of mandates or missions - especially in Asia. Furthermore, Tibère Adler will initially focus on managing his portfolio of mandates on various boards of directors, including the board of Tamedia. In parallel, he will continue to pursue his own projects, such as his activities as a mentor to entrepreneurs or top managers, as well as personal investments. Most notably, as of September 1, 2011, he will take over as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Digital Luxury Group, DLG S.A. (formerly IC-Agency), a Geneva-based company that is at the forefront of the digital marketing business (especially on social networks) for luxury brands. He is also a shareholder in the company.

The campaign follows a complete Bonviva product relaunch at the beginning of the year, the agency writes in a statement. The client and agency are relying on Roger Federer to convey the program's many performance features in the new TV spot, online and at the point of sale in a broad series of posters in a wide variety of settings. Tele Top: Action against dissemination problems

The licensed regional television station Tele Top is experiencing reception problems in parts of its coverage area on the analog network due to interference from DAB signals.

As the cable network operator Cablecom is refusing to provide Tele Top with a better program position, contrary to the concession requirements, the broadcaster is now helping the affected viewers directly, according to a statement on Monday. Tests had shown that picture interference and flickering would disappear in almost all cases if a double-shielded television cable was used instead of a normal cable. Tele Top is therefore offering such a cable free of charge to all viewers who register by June 30, 2011.

According to the press release, viewers in the greater Zurich area are particularly affected by the reception problems. In this area, Tele Top is broadcast by Cablecom on channel 12. As this channel is also used for DAB signals, this could lead to reception problems on viewers' TV sets. Cablecom has confirmed this situation in writing, but has so far refused to reallocate Tele Top as a licensed broadcaster for the Zurich-North-Eastern Switzerland region to an interference-free channel.

Those affected can register until June 30, 2011 by calling 052 264 80 66 (answering machine) or by filling in the form on Toponline.ch report. The installation will take place from June 20 to 24.
