APG and Uncle Ben's: Effect of poster campaigns studied

APG conducted a market research study in collaboration with Uncle Ben’s. The goal was to assess the impact of billboard campaigns.

Together with APG, Uncle Ben's launched a poster campaign in French-speaking Switzerland in winter 2010/11 for its "Heiss auf Reis" (Hot on Rice) quick-prepared rice dishes. To support this product, Uncle Ben's joined forces with APG to run a poster campaign in the regions of Geneva, Lausanne, Fribourg, and La Chaux-de-Fonds.

In parallel, a study was designed with the aim of testing the sales-stimulating effect of posters. The evaluation of the results shows: Sales outlets in areas with posters reported up to 44 percent more sales than those without. In addition, the campaign had a long-lasting effect: The above-average sales level in the areas advertised with posters lasted for up to four weeks after the posters went up, APG writes in a statement.

The case study proves that posters have the greatest leverage to increase sales, the report continues. It is part of a comprehensive study conducted in 2010 by APG together with the German FAW Fachverband Aussenwerbung e.V. (Frankfurt/Main, Germany).

SF: Docu-series "Criminal Cases - The 7 Deadly Sins" honored again

On Saturday, the Swiss Bar Association SAV awarded the film "Greed and the evil consequences" by Hansjürg Zumstein from the documentary series "Criminal cases - the 7 deadly sins". This is the second award that the series from 2010 has received.

In his film, Hansjürg Zumstein tells the story of the so-called European Kings Club: more than 15 years ago, thousands of Swiss people invested in a Ponzi scheme, but instead of a 70% guaranteed return, the result was a total loss. In front of Zumstein's camera, the Kings Club initiators spoke for the first time about the huge fiasco. SF 1 broadcast the documentary on July 15, 2010.

According to a press release from the Swiss Bar Association (SAV), the media prize was awarded to journalistic work on the nature and values of Swiss law and its instances or on legal professions, as well as critical contributions on the existing legal system. "With his easy-to-understand film from the documentary series 'Kriminalfälle - die 7 Todsünden', Hansjürg Zumstein has succeeded in shedding light on the dark machinations of this criminal organization in a well-researched manner," explained jury member and laudator Martin Hofer, member of the management team at PR agency Burson-Marsteller. "Hansjürg Zumstein's contribution left the competition far behind."

Last but not least: Would you like a little dog?

The latest prank of the animal protection organization Peta: the butcher's shop Kläffer, which offers quality meat products from dogs and cats.

The butchery Kläffer has of course a web presence: Butchery-klaeffer.com. What at first glance looks like the website of a normal butcher's shop turns out to be a macabre plea against eating meat. The tragic-comic highlight is the accompanying YouTube video, in which the nice, down-to-earth butcher makes his grand entrance. But let yourself be convinced of the quality of the products from the house Kläffer:

20-Minuten editor acquitted of libel charges

The Zurich District Court has acquitted an editor of 20 Minuten online of charges of libel and defamation. Three former officers had taken the 48-year-old to court over an article about the Swiss army.

According to the verdict announced on Monday, the unsuccessful plaintiffs must bear the court costs of 3,500 francs. The court did not accept their claims for compensation. In addition, the former officers were ordered to pay the defendant 6,000 Swiss francs in compensation.

Three former intelligence officers and officers of the Swiss army had sued the journalist for an article written in the summer of 2008. At the time, the author wrote a series of articles about scandals and affairs in the Swiss army over the past 50 years. In one article, he also wrote about Colonel Albert Bachmann, who headed the Extraordinary Intelligence Service (AOND) between 1976 and 1979. According to the accused, the AOND had not only spied on alleged extremists at home, but also put them on a list. In the event of war, the 442 men and 57 women would have been immediately interned, the statement continued. Bachmann, who died last April, and two other senior officers found this statement defamatory. They sued the author and demanded satisfaction.

In court, the plaintiffs argued that AOND, as an intelligence service, had only been active abroad. Their mission had been to build up a network of sources behind the Iron Curtain. However, they had not spied on compatriots. The defense, on the other hand, demanded an acquittal. Two plaintiffs had not even been mentioned in the text and thus could not be identified. In addition, there was no intent to disparage Bachmann's reputation. (SDA)

Early end for the price gnome campaign

Jung Von Matt/Limmat and Migros are ending the "Preiszwerg" campaign, which launched in December, ahead of schedule. Effective immediately, only Miggy the Piggy Bank will be promoting low prices.

Spokesman Urs-Peter Naef explained the decision to the Sunday newspaper by saying that the "Sparzwerg" had not generated the hoped-for sympathy among customers and the public. In fact, shortly after the first broadcast last year, the Association of People of Small stature in Switzerland (KVM) spoke out and harshly criticized Migros. The campaign conveys an image of small people, as it is known from the circus. It was difficult to gain sympathy on the subject of price cuts, said Dominique von Matt of the advertising agency responsible, Jung von Matt/Limmat. In addition, consumers were confused by the fact that the Miggy piggy bank was also used to advertise low prices. However, this is not the first time that Migros has come under fire for advertising with small-format products. About two and a half years ago the retailer advertised a range of products featuring smallwhich did not go down well with the KVM and the disability organization Pro Infirmis.

Swiss Television Award: Newsreader Fischlin named television star

For the first time, a representative from the news media sector has been named «Swiss TV Star of the Year»: Tagesschau anchor Franz Fischlin won the title on Friday. The Swiss Television Awards were presented in various categories.

Fischlin is not just a news anchor, but "a classic anchorman", the jury found. He is able to embed news content, explain background information and ask questions. And all this in "crystal-clear language" and with an on-screen presence that is second to none.

The audience was asked to vote for the best program: the readers of Tele, TV Star and Blick chose the casting show "Die grössten Schweizer Talente". It beat out the other nominated programs "Kampf der Chöre" and "Alpenrose".

Suter film adaptation and celebrity interview

In the "Film" category, the jury awarded the prize to the film adaptation of Martin Suter's book "The Last Weynfeldt". Both the dramaturgy and the acting performances - in particular by Stefan Kurt - as well as the direction by Alain Gsponer from Zurich were convincing. "Der letzte Weynfeldt" won against the documentary "Hoselupf" and the comedy "Fliegende Fische".

"Ich und Du" is the name of the program that emerged as the winner in the "Innovation" category. The "simple but all the more entertaining celebrity section" of "G&G Weekend" on SF1 is "wonderfully funny and self-revealing", writes the jury.

The prize for Kurt Felix had already been announced in advance. The 70-year-old was awarded the Swiss Television Prize for his life's work. The audience rose to its feet for a long standing ovation. The very personal laudatory speech was given by German TV legend Frank Elstner. Kurt Felix made television history with his programs such as "Teleboy" and "Verstehen Sie Spass". (SDA)

Last but not least: Of old bags and old boxes

«Good job, man!» Some sprightly retirees might not be too happy to hear those words called out after them. Not so for the retirees on the website Rentarentner.ch.

Driving a car through the car wash, picking berries, shoveling snow, bookkeeping. Retired people can be "hired" for all kinds of work via the Rentarentner.ch platform. 360 pensioners are now registered as "Rentarentner". And the demand is apparently so great that the website can no longer cope with the onslaught and will soon have to be updated, as 66-year-old initiator Peter Hiltebrand explained to the NZZ am Sonntag. His business idea was also awarded the special prize at the 2011 Marketing Trophy. However, the "rental tenants" are not allowed to be squeamish - at least as far as communication is concerned, as the subject below from the advertising agency shows. If you still want to apply: "old bags" and "old boxes" are still being sought.
