Tele Züri: Wagner and Ringier pull out

A few days ago, Tamedia responded to the purchase offers for Tele Züri, Tele Bärn as well as Radio 24 and Capital FM. Ex-publisher Martin Wagner and Ringier are apparently dropping out of the race. Their purchase offers were too low for Tamedia.

An advertising market pool Zurich/Basel, an exclusive cooperation with Tamedia media and an implementation of social gaming such as Pokermania were offered, Wagner revealed to Sonntag. According to the newspaper's research, the offer is likely to have been a maximum of 20 million. According to Wagner, this is far too low for Tamedia. However, he does not want to make any improvements. Tamedia's behavior shows that the media group is not concerned with a credible commercial concept, but rather with achieving the highest possible proceeds, Wagner continues.

The media group Ringier, which according to Sonntag had offered even less, also withdrew. It is said to have offered a maximum of 15 million francs. Tamedia CEO Martin Kall wanted "the number 3" on the front, which Ringier said was too expensive. In addition, he said, the company now wants to adjust its TV strategy. According to a management decision, the purchase of a TV station is no longer an option. Ringier is keeping a low profile for the time being. Spokesman Edi Estermann said the company would soon provide information on how to proceed.

Who is still in the race?

The remaining potential buyers must now submit a binding offer by the end of July. Which bidders are still in the running remains speculative. Swiss sports television and the TV station 3+ are likely to be in the second round. AZ publisher Peter Wanner is also said to be interested, according to Sonntag. Other bidders include a group of investors led by SVP Vice President Christoph Blocher and an investor from Kazakhstan, who is bidding through a Swiss straw man, according to the report.

Audience Council: Swissinfo.ch receives good marks

Election dossier, quality audit, «Click on Switzerland» dossier: At its June meeting, the Public Advisory Board reviewed numerous new offerings from Swissinfo.ch and expressed its satisfaction with the diversity and high quality of the content.

The Public Council considers the election dossier, which is online in the national languages German, French and Italian, to be a successful dossier for the Swiss abroad to inform themselves about the upcoming elections, according to a statement. The clarity of the dossier, the interactivity, the graphics, the discussion of topics that are of particular interest to the 5th Switzerland as well as the numerous links to further information and additional dossiers are appreciated.

Swissinfo.ch published a guide in eight languages with information and tips on living, working, traveling and studying in Switzerland. The audience council appreciates the clear and comprehensible presentation, the easy navigation between the topics and the many further links, it continues. What is missing is the possibility for users to actively interact, comment or give their own tips.

Arab Site Quality Audit

The audience council also discussed the current quality audit on the Arabic site, which received very good marks overall. The auditors noted positively the many further elements such as internal and external links as well as the multimedia elements. What is criticized in some articles is that a lot of background knowledge is assumed and the contexts are not sufficiently explained. The Arabic-language editorial team will take the numerous suggestions into account in the further development of the offering.

"This party needs to become a new tradition!"

The premiere of the Swiss Party, organized by ADC, Swissfilm Association, Star TV, and Werbewoche, was a complete success. Here are more photos from the event at Plage Miramar.

Many well-known creatives with Swiss passports in exile on the Cote d'Azur as well as a few friends from Germany to Korea to Brazil enjoyed themselves until well after midnight at the Plage Miramar. There was good food, a little toast to the lions won so far, as well as extensive dancing to the beats of Massiv Music. "We definitely have to repeat this," said Peter Beck of the Swissfilm Association, and Martin Spillmann and director Ernst Wirz of ADC were convinced: "This party has to become a new tradition!"

The 13th General Assembly of Le Temps in Geneva acknowledged the results of the 2010 financial year with satisfaction. Serge Reymond was appointed to the Board of Directors.

After the particularly high demands of 2009, which necessitated considerable cost reductions, an excellent operating result was achieved in 2010 thanks to very good cost control and a general increase in sales, according to a press release issued on Friday.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors, Stéphane Garelli, has warmly thanked Tibère Adler, the outgoing General Manager of the Edipresse Group, for his persistent commitment and his decisive contribution to the success of Le Temps, according to a statement. His successor is Serge Reymond, Director of Edipresse Switzerland, who will represent the interests of the shareholder Tamedia/Edipresse alongside Lamunière and Supino. The Board of Directors of Le Temps is thus composed as follows:

Stéphane Garelli, President
Claude Demole, as a private individual
Pierre Lamunière, Chairman and Delegate of the Board of Directors of the Edipresse Group
Daniel Pillard, Managing Director Ringier Romandie
Serge Reymond, General Manager Edipresse Switzerland
Michael Ringier, Chairman of the Board of Directors Ringier
Pietro Supino, Chairman of the Board of Directors Tamedia
Jean-Clément Texier, Le Monde, Paris

Following the launch of a "pioneering payment system on its website in mid-January, the redynamization of the graphic line of the daily newspaper and supplements this spring and the constant enrichment of its editorial offer on all media", Le Temps is now preparing for the imminent launch of paid iPhone and iPad applications. In order to ensure the necessary level of quality and to improve the management of its numerous projects, Le Temps has also strengthened its deputy editor-in-chief.

Comet: Business figures brought into shape

To present last year’s financial results in an appealing way, the Komet agency once again designed two new annual reports this spring for its clients Ypsomed and VKF/IRV/Pool.

The agency designed a new layout concept for the report by medical technology company Ypsomed, as detailed in a press release. A twelve-page photo series presents and portrays people from all over the world who are connected to the international company in various ways.

The agency once again edited a supplement to the combined annual reports of the umbrella organizations of all cantonal building insurers VKF, IRV and Pool: The magazine Elements, designed and edited by Komet, has now accompanied the company figures for three years.

Responsible at Komet: Thom Pfister (CD), Roland Zenger (AD), Tamara Janes (graphics), Rahel Alder, Stefanie Broccard (DTP), Isabella Jungo, Antonia Bekiaris (text), Simon Schatzmann (head of consulting), Bettina Ammann, Emma Isolini (consulting), Beat Schweizer, Maurice Haas (photography).

Aargau cantonal council is against a cantonal media law

The Aargau Cantonal Government does not intend to draft a media law. It cites, above all, considerations of public order and state policy as arguments against the law called for by a Social Democratic Party (SP) member of the cantonal parliament. Freedom of the press should not be restricted.

According to the cantonal government, a cantonal media law would either have to contain regulations relating to the content of journalistic publications or provide for financial support measures by the canton. Both are "problematic", according to the statement published on Friday in response to a motion by SP councillor Martin Christen. He wants the law to ensure "balanced, open and truthful" information for the population. The cantonal constitution of 1980 stipulates that the Grand Council can pass a media law to promote the diversity of information.

In the view of the Government Council, the media play a central role in the democratic opinion-forming process. Direct democracy in particular is dependent on the media conveying the diversity of prevailing opinions to the public. In the view of the Government Council, this function can only be fulfilled satisfactorily in a functioning journalistic competition. The concentration and reduction of media titles in Aargau in recent years is undisputed. However, diverse information is not only based on the number of publications appearing in the canton. The type of reporting is also based on the journalistic self-image of the media professionals.

"Certain journalistic competition"

In Aargau, the number of daily newspapers was reduced to two (Aargauer Zeitung and Zofinger Tagblatt). In the 1980s, there were still five independent daily newspapers in the canton. As the publisher of the Aargauer Zeitung, AZ Medien AG also has a stake in the two largest private electronic media in the canton (Radio Argovia and Tele M1).

However, the reporting of these media products is not uniform, but is characterized by a "certain journalistic competition", according to the Government Council. This could have a "positive effect on the diversity of reporting". However, the government council is "critical" of the fact that the electronic and print media are "closely intertwined in terms of personnel in some cases". The areas do not act completely independently of each other. According to the government council, it intends to fundamentally rethink the situation if the ongoing changes in the media world make it significantly more difficult for citizens to form an opinion. KSB: Annual report realized for Myclimate

The Swiss foundation Myclimate is one of the world’s leading providers of voluntary CO2 offset measures. For the first time, KSB Krieg Schlupp Bürge is designing the annual report for this nonprofit organization. And it’s breaking new ground under the motto «Plusminus.».

"Plusminus" is not only the core of the topic of offsetting, according to the statement, but an idea that can be applied to all aspects of Myclimate's activities. In a nutshell:

+ Commitment
- Emissions
= Myclimate 2010

The annual report is published in newspaper format and is produced in a climate-neutral way. In addition to reports, facts and figures, there is also room for humor, as the agency writes in a statement. For example, in the headline for the balance sheet: "+Coal/Dioxide. Or in the full-page graphic "Another successful business year": The curve drops steeply. After all, it's all about CO2 emissions.

Responsible at Myclimate: René Estermann (Managing Director), Kathrin Dellantonio (Media Spokesperson), Andrea Altdorfer and Sylke Gruhnwald (Marketing), Stephan Hayoz (Graphics), Dikey Ghung (Administration). Mainland implements follow-up campaign for Lista Office

Following the rebranding of Lista Office and the accompanying visual campaign, the Swiss manufacturer and supplier of office furniture systems is now launching its follow-up campaign.

The campaign, which has been further developed by Festland, aims to sharpen Lista Office LO's positioning as number one in the Swiss market and is based on the existing image world, the agency writes in a press release. However, the emphasis is no longer just on the design, but also on relevant brand attributes, represented by colorful objects. These would form a striking contrast to the white (Zollverein) space, which is also furnished with white products.

The campaign launched at the end of May starts with two subjects: while the "Bust" subject focuses on support from customized planning to after-sales service, the "Sunflower" subject is dedicated to the good climate in the workplace and the resulting productivity of employees. Further subjects are planned for the fall.

The campaign will appear in the trade media until the end of the year and will be supplemented in the fall by an appearance in leading business publications.
