The current SRG Chairman Jean-Bernard Münch is stepping down from his position at the end of 2011 after nine years in office. Münch was elected by the Federal Council in 2002. Only since 2007 has the election of the President been the responsibility of the Assembly of Delegates. Raymond Loretan is now to be Münch's possible successor. This is the recommendation of the committee according to a press release issued on Wednesday.
Loretan currently works for a Geneva-based consultancy. In the past, he has held positions including Secretary General of the CVP, Swiss Consul General in New York and personal advisor to Federal Councillor Arnold Koller. At a time of upheaval and major challenges, Loretan, who speaks French and German, will be able to strengthen the Board of Directors thanks to his experience and promote dialog with politicians, according to the press release. This was the deciding factor in favor of Loretan and against a candidate from the ranks of the sponsors.
Viktor Baumeler, President of SRG's German-speaking Swiss regional company and member of the Board of Directors, is also standing for election. He will be supported in the election on September 22 by the presidents of SRG's German-speaking Swiss member companies, as detailed in the press release.
Advertiser of the year candidate
At the end of the year, Board member Elisabeth Veya will also step down after the maximum possible term of office of twelve years. Board member Lucy Küng is standing for a further term of office. The Board of Directors is proposing Regula Fecker as Veya's replacement. Fecker is co-founder of the Zurich advertising agency Rod Kommunikation and was named Advertiser of the Year in 2010. According to SRG, Fecker will contribute her knowledge and expertise in new media to the Board of Directors.
Nine people sit on the SRG Board of Directors. However, only three of these can be elected by the 41-member Assembly of Delegates. The presidents of the four SRG regional companies are ex officio members of the Board of Directors. Two members of the Board are appointed by the Federal Council. These are currently Hans Lauri and Ulrich Gygi. (sda)
