Last but not least: The truth behind the cute YouTube kittens

Cats are the secret stars of YouTube. A search for «Cat» brings up over 350,000 videos: cats playing the piano, cats daydreaming, cats being chased by turtles, and so on and so forth. Now we know who’s responsible for this flood of cat videos: Kittywood Studios.

A working day at Kittywood Studios is no walk in the park: "Nobody goes home until we've finished the next hit video," the employees are urged on. 30 percent of Internet traffic is generated by videos showing kittens playing or looking in the toilet, claims the unnamed Senior Vice President of Kittywood Studios. Cats are the future of the internet. The (of course fictitious) process of cat video production is documented in a short film by Texan filmmaker Joe Nicolosi, aka Pixelpersecond. The film has quickly become a viral hit - and rightly so, we say. But take a look for yourself:

ARD wants more Swiss "Tatort" thrillers in its program

ARD plans to include more Swiss «Tatort» episodes featuring Inspector Reto Flückiger (Stefan Gubser) in its lineup, according to a spokesperson for the programming department in Munich who spoke to the German Press Agency (DPA).

Every single film is reviewed, but not the cooperation with Swiss Television (SF), said the spokesperson. The quality of each "Tatort" contribution is also discussed - whether German or Swiss. Switzerland wants to contribute two episodes per year, the next one will be filmed soon.

Even before, but also after the broadcast of "Tatort" with the title "Wunschdenken" last Sunday, there was a hail of criticism against the film. Stefan Gubser was said to be an out-of-contour inspector, the female lead Sofia Milos was miscast and the German dubbing for broadcasting outside Switzerland was poor. However, some German media also expressed neutral to positive opinions on the latest Swiss "Tatort". (SDA)

According to SDA, the campaign is based on those of the TCS and the BFU. In addition to radio and TV advertising, the Zurich police are using online media for the first time. There is a separate Facebook pagewhere information is published. By Tuesday morning, 237 people had indicated that they liked the site. Facebook users also have the option of downloading a picture of a pedestrian crossing and sharing it online. The aim is to create the world's longest virtual pedestrian crossing, said Beat Jost from the cantonal police.

Coca-Cola glasses are back at McDonald's

McDonald’s Switzerland is celebrating its 35th anniversary, and Coca-Cola is already 125 years old. To mark this double anniversary, there will be a Coke glass collection campaign this summer at more than 150 McDonald’s restaurants in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein.

Between August 22 and October 4, 2011, everyone who orders a Menu Medium or a Salad Menu will receive a free Coca-Cola glass. This year, they are modeled after the bottle neck and crown cork of the original Coca-Cola bottle. The collection includes six colors. Each week, either purple, yellow, blue, pink, green or gray glasses will be served - but only while supplies last.

In previous years, the summer campaign was a great success, according to the statement, and triggered a high level of collection enthusiasm throughout Switzerland: in 2010, around 2.5 million jars were distributed in over 150 Swiss McDonald's restaurants within six weeks.

China soon to be the second largest advertising nation?

The Chinese advertising market is still developing compared to countries such as the USA and Japan. However, it has recently been catching up noticeably: The world's largest population and rising purchasing power are the two driving forces behind this.

According to eMarketer estimates, advertising budgets in China will increase to such an extent that the People's Republic will become the second largest advertising nation in the world by the end of the year. The frontrunner in 2010 was Japan, where advertising spending amounted to 34 billion dollars. However, due to the tsunami disaster and ongoing economic difficulties, the market is expected to shrink by 3.7 percent to 32.7 billion dollars.
