Bieler Tagblatt: Bernhard Rentsch becomes editor-in-chief

Bernhard Rentsch will succeed Catherine Duttweiler, who will leave the Bieler Tagblatt after seven years at the end of November 2011 and move to BEKB, at the latest on May 1, 2012.

Bernhard Rentsch grew up in Pieterlen near Biel and has lived with his family in Sutz for more than ten years, according to a statement on Monday. After graduating from university as a gymnastics and sports teacher, Rentsch turned to journalism. From 1990 to 1995, he was sports editor at the Bieler Tagblatt. Rentsch held various management positions at the country's largest sports association, the Swiss Gymnastics Federation. He was editor-in-chief of the association's magazine, head of media and currently head of marketing and communications. The versatile journalist and Seeland connoisseur ran his own communications office for over ten years and also worked for three years as a presenter on Tele Bielingue.

The 46-year-old succeeds Catherine Duttweiler, who headed the Bieler Tagblatt as Editor-in-Chief for seven years. Duttweiler is moving to BEKB at the beginning of January 2012, where she will take over as head of internal and external communications from April. From December and until Bernhard Rentsch joins the company, her deputy Theo Martin will head the editorial department of the Bieler Tagblatt on an interim basis.

High voltage puts the sand-lime brick in the foreground

The Hochspannung agency has designed new ad campaigns for its client, FBB Frischbeton und Baustoff. The goal is to increase awareness of the Profila sand-lime brick.

The subjects are already in use. They will be printed as advertisements in trade magazines until further notice and are intended to show that a living room does not always have to look like a classic living room. Because the sand-lime brick Profila may appear with its wall structure also in areas, in which one would suspect otherwise no unplastered building blocks, so the agency.

Mountainmania: Migros takes positive stock

Mountainmania has come to an end and Migros has drawn a positive balance: 430,000 collector's books were sold. This means that a total of 500,000 francs can be handed over to the WWF for Alpine protection projects.

Mountainmania also met with lively interest on the Internet, as was reported in a press release on Monday. Around 335,000 users visited the website and played the mini-games over 435,000 times. 11,271 players successfully completed them and received the "Mountain World Champion" certificate.

Mountainmania has once again shown that sticker campaigns can always inspire, the press release continues. This is mainly due to the fact that children learn new things and can get excited about a topic. This is also the common goal of Migros and WWF. Many parents also appreciate the knowledge-sharing aspect of Mountainmania. This is evident from numerous emails and conversations with parents who have visited the roadshows and swap meets with their children.

Axel Springer: More revenue thanks to digital business

Axel Springer is benefiting from the expansion of its digital business and its international activities. In the first nine months, sales increased by almost twelve percent to around 2.32 billion euros.

As the German media group announced on Monday, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) rose by almost 16 percent to around 446 million euros. The Group confirmed its forecast for the current full year. It anticipates a high single-digit increase in turnover and an EBITDA increase in the low double-digit percentage range. "Our digital media continue to grow dynamically and make an increasingly large contribution to earnings," said Springer CEO Mathias Döpfner in the press release. In the third quarter alone, the division doubled its earnings. Axel Springer wants to become less dependent on developments in the German print market. Swiss magazine Ecolife increases circulation

Ecolife, the sustainability magazine, is looking back on the most successful year in its history and will increase its circulation to 90,000 copies in 2012.

In recent months, the magazine published by Profile Publishing has increased the number of copies sold to 18,340, according to a press release issued on Monday (end of 2010: 4,796 copies). The Wemf-certified circulation rose to 77,248 copies (end of 2010: 58,579 copies). Reason enough for the publisher to increase the circulation to 90,000 copies for the coming year.

Ecolife's distribution concept will be adjusted slightly in 2012, as the statement continues. However, the most important pillars will continue to be subscriptions, targeted distribution to people with a high affinity to the LOHAS target group in the largest German-speaking cities and conurbations in Switzerland, targeted distribution to high-traffic locations, kiosk sales in German-speaking Switzerland and partnerships with trade fair and event organizers.

Soon again bedtime stories on SF

Bedtime stories such as «Pingu» and «Dominik the Badger» are set to return to Swiss Television (SF). SF plans to resume broadcasting the short stories starting next year. The entertainment division is currently developing a concrete plan.

What this will look like in detail is still unclear. In the best case, the bedtime stories will start at the end of February 2012, said SF media spokeswoman Andrea Hemmi at the request of the news agency SDA on Sunday. She confirmed a corresponding message of the Sunday newspaper. However, the start of broadcasting could be postponed because licensing rights first have to be clarified and the archive material has not yet been viewed. It is also unclear which programs will be shown - according to Hemmi, "Pingu" or the cult classic "Dominik the Badger" and the "Cat Pirates" are possible. But new stories are also to be shown.

There will certainly be a Swiss-German bedtime story and possibly also a Rhaeto-Romanic version, the media spokeswoman added. The four- to five-minute programs will be broadcast at 5:30 p.m. on SF1 and will be shown after the program "Zambo. This program is now focusing on the 10- to 14-year-old age group. In order to offer something to younger children of pre-school age, SF decided to show the bedtime stories again, Hemmi said. They first flickered across the screen in 1968. At the end of 2006, the German-speaking Swiss programs were discontinued. They were shown in Romansh until the end of 2009. (SDA)

First typography symposium in St. Gallen

Does typical Swiss typography still exist? This is the question posed by the first Tÿpo St. Gallen. The German Forum for Typography is taking part as a guest with its 25th national meeting. Werbewoche is giving away five tickets for the three-day symposium.

Does Swiss typography still exist at all? And what is typically Swiss about today's typography? A possible answer to these questions will be provided at the first Tÿpo St. Gallen - a new series of events that will take place for the first time from November 18 to 20, 2011 at the St. Gallen Vocational and Further Education Center and will be repeated annually. At the three-day symposium, 13 speakers from Switzerland, Germany, Austria, England, the Netherlands and the USA will explore the "typical Swiss typography" in specialist lectures and workshops. As part of this new typography symposium, the German Forum Typografie will also be a guest in Switzerland on the occasion of its 25th national meeting, thus promoting exchange across national borders.

> To the program

Tÿpo St. Gallen is organized by the GBS St. Gallen and is managed by the St. Gallen School of Design and the College of Art, Design and Design. The Vadiana Cantonal Library, the largest library in Eastern Switzerland, and the St. Gallen Abbey Library, the oldest library in Switzerland and one of the largest and oldest monastery libraries in the world, are contributing to the symposium. On Sunday, November 20, 2011, visitors to Tÿpo St. Gallen can look forward to a visit to the Vadiana Library with its typographic treasures and a lecture in the Abbey Library on the subject of the development of typefaces in the Abbey of St. Gall.

Werbewoche is giving away five tickets to the event, each worth 350 francs. To take part in the prize draw, send an e-mail to [email protected]. The winners will be drawn on November 11.

Last but not least: The poster that is not one

Two students, Nina Wagner and Lorenza Di Fiore, from the Bern University of the Arts have won the first international design competition of the Lucerne poster festival Weltformat—with a poster that isn't actually a poster at all.

All it leaves on the billboard are traces of glue and the message: "Today I'm making blue/your billboard." For jury president Remo Caminada, the two students have cleverly implemented the competition theme: "They advertise the poster by removing a poster and thus creating a conspicuous gap. The idea is simple, concise and humorous, but not trite." Together with the 19 remaining nominations as well as ten other exhibitions, the poster of the two winners can be seen at Weltformat 11 in Lucerne until November 13, 2011. Congratulations!
