Last but not least: "What men really want" reloaded

The online dating agency Parship.ch decided to find out once again and, just in time for International Men’s Day on November 19, surveyed 812 single men in German-speaking Switzerland about their preferences and priorities when choosing a partner.

Two thirds of respondents prefer a slim and athletic figure. Zurich residents in particular pay above-average attention to this (70 percent!). The eyes are the most fascinating feature of a woman's face (47 percent). For almost a quarter, a woman's hair is an important feature. Breasts and buttocks are also an eye-catcher for almost one in four men, although interestingly, the people of Eastern Switzerland are particularly receptive to these charms.

But now to the inner values - because, as we all know, these are what really count: Male singles are looking for a partner who is intelligent (55%), has a good sense of humor (52%) and is enterprising (44%). Erotic charisma (whether this can be attributed to external or internal values is a moot point at this point) is in fourth place on the wish list for 39% of respondents. Above all, the people from Bern and the Central Plateau attach above-average importance to this characteristic. Tidiness and independence of the partner are only important to one in five. It is particularly important to men that she is there for them when they need her (71 percent), but gives them enough freedom (55 percent). Men are more likely to be annoyed if their partner constantly reprimands them (75 percent), controls them (68 percent), talks a lot (30 percent) or meets up with their ex (24 percent).

Let's summarize: The man wants a slender woman with beautiful eyes, flowing hair, a plump bust, firm bottom and an erotic charisma that will blow you away. She should have something on her mind, but still laugh at his stupid jokes. She has to give him all the freedom he wants and neither control him nor constantly nag him. She should accept that she has no freedom herself and is not allowed to meet up with her ex. She should look pretty, but for God's sake, not talk too much. All in all, no new insights - but well, we've talked about it again. Advertising Week wishes you a Happy Men's Day!

NZZ am Sonntag named "European Newspaper of the Year

The best European weekly newspaper comes from Switzerland: The NZZ am Sonntag was named European Newspaper of the Year in the «Weekly Newspaper» category.

For the first time, a Swiss newspaper has won a top prize in one of the categories of this competition, which judges the design qualities of newspapers and magazines, according to a statement on Wednesday. The international jury, which is made up of journalists, scientists and designers, justified the choice of the NZZ am Sonntag with its "particularly clear structure" through seven sections and through the "Style" supplement. In particular, the jury emphasized that the readership is "spoiled" with long articles that are "presented in a reader-friendly manner in generous column widths and with a clear page layout." The jury also sees this as the reason why the newspaper has been able to increase its circulation by around 10,000 copies in the last three years. NZZ am Sonntag has a circulation of 130,000 copies and is published in the Berliner format. The newspaper has 41 editors, two art directors and five layouters. The picture desk comprises four people.

A total of 226 newspapers from 27 countries took part in the European Newspaper Award this year. The best newspapers in Europe come from Norway, Denmark, Switzerland and Germany.

Maxomedia makes the population proud of Swiss wood

Maxomedia has created a campaign for the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) to inform the Swiss population about the sustainable use of wood in Switzerland.

Large machines are rattling in the forest, forestry workers are wielding chainsaws, logs are ready to be transported away: It will soon be logging season. The forest and most examples of the use of wood evoke positive feelings. But many people react to logging with concern and a lack of understanding. This is where the awareness-raising campaign of the Federal Office for the Environment's Wood Action Plan comes in. The project was conceived and realized by Maxomedia.

The "Proud of Swiss wood" campaign informs the public about the sustainable use of wood in Switzerland. It provides arguments as to why Swiss wood should be harvested and used. And explains why a near-natural forest is compatible with more intensive wood use thanks to careful management.

A TV commercial designed to evoke emotions and memories has been running since the beginning of November. It was produced in collaboration with Solid & Hallerfilm. Other elements include posters (from February 2012), some of which are made of real wood. Information boards will also be erected and flyers distributed in the forest and its immediate surroundings during the timber harvesting period. In addition, foresters can spray-paint trees or logs with the campaign slogan "Proud of Swiss wood". The campaign also includes a Facebook page. A campaign event is planned for March 2012.

Publishers and SRG: Still no agreement in the dispute over online advertising

The dispute over online advertising between publishers and SRG SSR has not yet been resolved. At a meeting earlier this week in Zurich, the two sides failed to reach a solution on the contentious issue of whether SRG will be allowed to run online ads in the future.

There are still "certain differences", said Daniel Hammer, Secretary General of the French-speaking Swiss publishers' association Médias Suisses, when asked on Wednesday. For the time being, only the formation of three working groups was agreed at the meeting. These are to deal with online advertising, online offerings and possible forms of cooperation between SRG and publishers.

An initial report from the working groups should be available in January. The parties to the dispute have until spring to submit proposals to the Federal Council. The Federal Council expects the SRG and publishers to find a solution for online advertising themselves.

The publishers' associations Schweizer Medien and Médias Suisses accuse the SRG of overstepping the boundaries of the law with its online offering and thus competing with private providers. In March of this year, they presented a legal opinion supporting their position. According to this opinion, online offerings are not part of the public service and are also not covered by the license. (SDA)
