Draftfcb/Lowe Group: How Greenpeace celebrates its anniversary

Greenpeace is celebrating its 40th anniversary worldwide. After winning the account, the Draftfcb/Lowe Group was commissioned to create anniversary ads for Greenpeace’s 40th anniversary.

According to the agency, the last major Greenpeace activities, such as an anti-nuclear protest or the demonstration against whaling with the Greenpeace boss himself, must be the focus of this campaign. Because a real activist doesn't sit back and relax on his birthday. The current advertisements also serve as an appeal for donations from new supporters.

The entire campaign can be seen in Switzerland and other countries from mid-November.

Media Focus: Around 37 million francs spent on election campaigns

This year, campaign spending for the National Council and Council of States elections reached an all-time high. Compared to 2007, advertising spending rose by 14 percent.

Between August and October alone, Swiss parties and candidates spent CHF 36.6 million on advertising. In October, advertising expenditure amounted to CHF 20.4 million. This is according to the latest figures from the market research company Media Focus.

The SVP spent the most on its election campaign. It even made it into the top ten most active advertisers, taking ninth place ahead of Nestlé. The SVP was also well ahead in terms of the products advertised. Its National Council advertising was the fourth most advertised product in October, while its party advertising was in third place. This includes advertising for popular initiatives, for example.

The FDP was also generous. Its National Council advertisement came in second place among the most advertised products. Only the Sunrise Flex Mobile subscription was advertised more.

Most of the campaign spending for the second round of the Council of States elections was not included in the statistics. After the first round of voting, a total of 19 seats in the Council of States were still vacant - significantly more than in the previous elections.

Admazing and Yourposition form alliance

The online advertising agency Admazing and the search engine marketing specialist Yourposition are now collaborating. The two companies are focusing on joint customer support and product development.

In addition, the two Swiss companies are working on new products and services that will further merge search engine and display technology and enable even stronger performance and branding campaigns, the two companies said on Tuesday. The cooperation brings together two complementary online marketing specialists.

In future, Admazing will take over the planning and execution of all display campaigns for both companies. This also includes performance products such as Adfinity or Facebook Ads as well as video and mobile advertising. Yourposition will take over the planning, implementation and optimization of search engine marketing projects. This includes search engine advertising (SEA, especially with Google Ad Words) and search engine optimization (SEO). Yourposition also provides expertise in the field of web analytics.

The collaboration focuses on comprehensive and efficient customer care as well as the strategic bundling of performance channels: display campaigns create emotions, convey messages to users and offer an increasingly wide range of performance products. "By working together, we are now in a position to bundle all display and performance channels in order to realize extremely effective campaigns. At the same time, we ensure that the various online disciplines interlock and complement each other," explains Simon Morton, CEO Admazing.

In addition, new products are being developed that will offer simple and comprehensive solutions for online advertising campaigns, the two companies added. The joint further development of technologies such as "adcockpit 5.0" will also set new standards.

Wemf cancels Mach contracts

At the end of 2012, Wemf terminated all of its production contracts. This was done for formal legal reasons.

Because for the Mach studies a new scope of supply, a new research method and a new price model will be introduced. This writes Kleinreport.ch on Tuesday. A total of 480 customers for the Mach Basic, 250 for the Mach Consumer and 120 for the Mach Radar will be affected. The first Mach studies of the third generation will then appear in the fall of 2013. The new research concept is to serve as a model for media research for the next few years.

Launched in spring 2012, the new model was discussed over several years with industry representatives and continuously adapted to the latest research methods, Kleinreport.ch continues. All commissions of Wemf, the Swiss Media Association, Presse Suisse and Stampa Svizera as well as representatives of the other media research institutes were also involved in the process.

Some titles are being hit particularly hard by the change. Surprise, for example. The magazine previously paid 4,000 francs for the title to be polled in the 19,000 interviews conducted annually in German-speaking Switzerland. Under the new model, the cost will rise to 14,000 francs. To dampen the price increase somewhat, Wemf will spread the pass-through of the originator-based cost sharing over three years.

SRG television channels in HD picture quality in future

In the future, SRG television channels—with the exception of SF info—will also be broadcast in high definition (HD). SF 1, SF zwei, TSR 1, TSR 2, RSI LA 1, and RSI LA 2 will begin broadcasting in HD on Leap Day, February 29, 2012.

SRG broadcasts the programs via satellite, according to a statement on Tuesday. They are included in the offer by cable and telecom network operators. In some cases, however, there will be additional costs for the HD channels. The major network operators such as Cablecom and Swisscom have already agreed to include them, as SRG spokesperson Daniel Steiner told SDA on request. Negotiations are still ongoing with some smaller providers.

The resolution is five times higher with HD and enables a cinematic experience at home with razor-sharp images even on huge flat screens, SRG advertised in its press release on Tuesday. The new HD programs have teletext and offer a third sound channel with surround sound in addition to two stereo channels. SRG is currently also conducting internal tests with Internet-enabled television sets. However, SRG will remain an observer of the development of 3D technology for the time being. SRG programs will probably continue to be broadcast in the current digital standard (SD) until the end of 2015. The SF info repeat channel will not be offered in HD for the time being.

According to SRG, over 75% of all Swiss television households already have an HD-capable TV set. Many foreign TV stations such as ARD, ZDF, RTL and ORF have already been offering HD channels for some time. SRG initially relied on a single multilingual HD channel: HD suisse. This test and experimental channel, which was launched at the end of 2007, will be discontinued on January 31, 2012, according to the press release.

Last but not least: Websites still inaccessible for the disabled

In Switzerland, nearly one in seven people has a disability. Websites that are fully accessible to everyone remain the exception in Switzerland.

The 2011 Accessibility Study shows that many websites contain images and graphics whose information is not accessible to blind people. Deaf people cannot hear audio contributions and complex content is incomprehensible for people with cognitive disabilities. In Switzerland, stumbling blocks of this kind are not only found on the websites of private companies, as the "Access for all" foundation writes in a press release on Tuesday. There are also barriers on the administration's internet portals. This is despite the fact that the Disability Discrimination Act has required government agencies to make their websites accessible to all people since 2004.

For the study, the foundation had 100 important government and company websites tested. The Federal Administration came off well. The exception is the website of the Federal Supreme Court, which is still completely inaccessible for people with disabilities, according to the press release. According to the study, many cantons have made great progress. Eight achieved top marks, with the cantons of Valais, Basel-Landschaft and Neuchâtel coming off worst. The assessment of the websites of the largest cities is also divided. Among companies, only Swiss Post, SBB and individual websites of radio and television broadcasters and transport companies achieved good marks. According to the study, the vast majority of the private sites tested are barely accessible or not accessible at all.

The study, published on Tuesday, was conducted for the third time after 2004 and 2007 on the occasion of the eGovernment Symposium in Bern. In addition to the evaluation, it uses two case studies to show how a barrier-free website can be implemented.

Ogilvy & Mather: Mouth open and eyes closed?

Ogilvy & Mather has launched a campaign against foie gras on behalf of Vier Pfoten.

The production of foie gras from geese and ducks practiced abroad is outright murder. The poor creatures are fattened to death just so that one can present oneself as an alleged gourmet or come out fat at Christmas as a gift-giver, the agency said in a statement on Tuesday. The creatives of Ogilvy & Mather found that this action must be put a stop, and developed on their own initiative a subject, which they presented to Four Paws, Foundation for Animal Protection.

According to the agency, the people in charge of Switzerland were enthusiastic about the subject. Therefore, an extraordinary budget spoke for a small advertising campaign in the pre-Christmas season. The Red Works agency for image processing, a subsidiary agency of Ogilvy & Mather, supports the action against the import and sale of animal-cruel foie gras products with free work.

The subject can be seen as a poster in German-speaking Switzerland from November 7 - 20, as a hanging cardboard in the TPG Geneva transport companies from November 28 to December 11 and as an advertisement in 20Minutes and 24heures.

On National Energy Day at the end of October, the Energy Minister presented this platform to the public together with those responsible at SwissEnergy. EnergieSchweiz.ch was developed from scratch and positioned as a central information and advice platform for energy-saving measures and sustainable energy sources, the agency said on Tuesday.

Audience Council: Swiss Television's online portal praised

The Viewers' Council praised Swiss Television (SF) for its coverage and responsiveness during the federal elections on its online portal. It noted that there was little to criticize regarding the appeal of the graphics, video clips, and overviews.

Swiss radio and television SRF used all available human and technical resources on election day and achieved a remarkable user result - even compared to other election platforms. This writes the audience council in a statement on Tuesday. The immense number of hits on the website and on teletext testify to the great interest in the "Decision 2011". In view of the technical developments, one can be curious to see what the online concept for the next elections will look like.

In conversation with the makers, however, the audience council regretted that it was not yet possible to unite radio and television in a joint online presence. Roland Specker, Head of Multimedia News TV, was confident, however, that this demand of the convergence efforts could soon be fulfilled.
