Last but not least: Santa Claus in pin-up fur

On December 6, a hot surprise awaits visitors to the Würenlos shopping rest stop: Pin-up girl Zoe Scarlett will be stepping into the role of St. Nicholas. Hooray!

Every year, Santa Claus delights the little ones with delicious treats. But who says that adults don't also enjoy sweet surprises? And why does Santa Claus usually have to be overweight and unattractive? Despite the outdated tradition, the Würenlos shopping rest stop is spoiling the male population in particular this year: Zoe Scarlett will be visiting the rest stop as a sexy Santa Claus on Tuesday, December 6. As a pin-up model, she often slips into various roles, says Zoe Scarlett, but she has never played a Santa Claus. She herself was afraid of Santa Claus as a child. But nobody has to be afraid of her, Zoe warns, she gives kisses and presents. And in case anyone doesn't care too much about kisses and presents: The Samichläusin is sure to have a Schmutzli with her who can lend her his rod - for a few pre-Christmas spanks on the bottom.

All well and good, but that leaves the fun for visitors to the service areainside? In the age of gender equality, how about a male counterpart to the pin-up Samichlaus? Perhaps something like this?

Parody of Lega Sunday newspaper remains without criminal consequences

The publication of a parody of the Lega's Sunday newspaper, *Il Mattino della Domenica*, will not result in criminal charges. The Ticino Public Prosecutor's Office sees no legal basis for opening an investigation, as it announced on Wednesday.

With this decision, the authorities were responding to a complaint filed by several private individuals and a company against those responsible for a false edition of the right-wing Sunday newspaper published in October. According to the complaint, the authors were guilty of defamation, insult, unfair competition and copyright infringement with their parody of the Mattino.

The fake newspaper with the usual logo but satirical text was placed in the Mattino della Domenica distribution boxes on a Sunday. In terms of content, it mainly poked fun at Lega leader Giuliano Bignasca and his party colleagues. But advertisers of the real Mattino were also shown off. A week later, just before the elections, a satirical copy of the new Lega free newspaper 10 minuti also went into circulation.

The authors remained unknown for four weeks. Then the lawyers Paolo Bernasconi, Alberto Agustoni, the former member of the Council of States Dick Marty, the clergyman Callisto Caldelari and Clown Dimitri took over the legal responsibility. (SDA)

Agency at the airport makes it snow at Pitsch Sport

To date, there is no snow in sight far and wide in the lowlands. To get the winter business going anyway, the agency at the airport has launched an electronic "winter maker" for Pitsch Sport.

All ski customers were requested by e-mail to Pitschsport.ch/ecard/index.php to go. On this landing page, pictures can be uploaded and the longer you wait, the more snow falls. So even beach pictures turn into winter landscapes in no time. The snow-covered pictures can then be sent to friends as a digital postcard to boost the winter mood and the desire to buy snow sports articles.

Announcers disappear from screens in French-speaking Switzerland

As with other television stations, female announcers are also disappearing from the French-Swiss television network (TSR). Starting in September 2012, these women—known in Anglo-French as «speakerines»—will be replaced by voice-overs and graphics.

Staff were informed of the move on Wednesday, media spokeswoman Barbara Stutz confirmed in a report on the website of the daily newspaper 24 Heures. The announcers have been with French-speaking Swiss television since it was in its infancy.

Swiss television in German-speaking Switzerland definitively abolished announcers in 1997. They had already been reduced to a niche existence. (SDA)

The Stellenfant, which incidentally retains its publication day, is also added to the Zwei Bund newspaper. Readers will now have the option of subscribing to the Sunday edition of the Basler Zeitung as an individual subscription or supplementing their existing subscription with a minimal surcharge.

News platform Bielertagblatt and Journal du Jura relaunched

The websites Bielertagblatt.ch and Journaldujura.ch have been relaunched. Like the two daily newspapers, the websites specialize in news, background reports, and analyses from the Bernese Seeland, the city of Biel, the Bernese Jura, and the Grenchen region.

On Bielertagblatt.ch, a new community portal, many possibilities for interactivity, an innovative advertising solution and other features are available to the user around the clock. With a fully automated news import by the news agency SDA, national events are covered. In addition, the link with social media has been expanded.

The core of the relaunch, in addition to the modern design and the greatly improved technology, is the community portal. Here, readers can find the latest news from their residential and neighboring communities, statistical information about the municipality and other articles about things to know and see from a total of 86 localities.

Whereas only short snippets of text could be read on the previous website, all elements of the daily newspaper are now accessible. However, the regional content, news and dossiers will only be fully available to subscribers from January 1, 2012. The e-paper and archive are also affected by the payment requirement. Subscription Classic (daily newspaper; online and mobile), an online-only subscription, and daily access from 1 to 30 days will be offered. National news and short news items continue to be freely accessible. Elements such as the Seelandjass, the EHC dossier and the reader photo competition have been retained.

Another focus is on the newly presented classified markets (real estate, vehicle, jobs) as well as the private market and selected company portraits. New advertising options are also available to companies, and the online advertising tools have been expanded. A new tool allows advertisements to be placed quickly and easily.

The new portal was built by Goldbach Interactive in Biel together with Gassmann subsidiary Redmouse using the open source solution Drupal. The relaunches of the Canal 3 and Tele Bielingue homepages will follow in 2012, the agency said in a statement on Tuesday.

Draftfcb/Lowe Group: The little snow eater

The Draftfcb/Lowe Group has developed a campaign for a special all-wheel-drive model of the Mini. Under the slogan «Eat Snow,» the Mini Countryman Carver is presented as the car for all winter sports enthusiasts.

The campaign aims to make it clear that the Mini is a real snow eater. And the biggest proof that the Mini is an "all-rounder" is a special kind of product demonstration: the Mini was sent out onto the slopes and had to undergo an endurance test. No fakes, no prepared vehicles - standard Minis milled their way through the snow on the Matterhorn, according to the agency. And because the Mini Countryman Carver was already on the slopes, a freestyle snowboarder was also allowed to test the Mini's winter suitability.

The product film is accompanied by a print flight and various online banners as well as a snowball fight on Facebook. Here, too, the motto is "Eat Snow", as everyone can get their friends' profile pictures covered in snow.

Last but not least: Swiss carillon in London shines in new splendor

The Swiss carillon at the Swiss Centre on Leicester Square in London was restored as part of an initiative by Switzerland Tourism and the City of Westminster. It was officially unveiled on November 28.

The restored Swiss carillon, inaugurated yesterday at the Swiss Centre in London, replaces the original one given by Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the City of Westminster in 1985 for its 400th anniversary as a sign of their long-standing friendship. The new carillon includes eleven moving figures set against a typical Swiss mountain backdrop, the coats of arms of the 26 cantons, 27 bells and four figures in Swiss costume representing the language regions. This writes Switzerland Tourism on Tuesday in a statement.
The work of repairing the carillon was carried out jointly by artists and craftsmen from England and Switzerland. The manufacturer of large clocks, Smith of Derby, was commissioned to realize the carillon. According to the brief, the clock was to retain its strong Swiss identity as well as harmonize with the adjacent buildings and urban context. As the manufacturer of the previous carillon, the Aarau bell company H. Rüetschi was commissioned to combine the traditional elements with modern wireless technology and to coordinate the art and design elements as well as the music. Swiss artist Adalbert Fässler of Appenzell restored the wooden figures, originally hand-carved by Brienz sculptor Fritz Buchs. Finally, the music was rehearsed by the Royal Academy of Music in Westminster and the Musikhochschule Bern.
The inauguration ceremony included a demonstration that showed, among other things, that the carillon can be connected to a keyboard for live performances. Six alphorn players were posted on rooftops around Leicester Square - some of them hidden, leaving some passersby to wonder where the strange sounds were coming from. On the street, bell-ringing folk groups from different parts of Switzerland moved to the carillon and formed a circle around the guests of honor.
According to Jürg Schmid, CEO of Switzerland Tourism, the carillon should perpetuate the symbol of friendship and the original idea of Albert Kunz. Furthermore, the carillon should remind people of Switzerland and its numerous tourist attractions.
What exactly about the chimes is supposed to remind the listener of "magnificent mountains, picturesque towns, glittering lakes and spectacular panoramic trains" is difficult to discern from the picture. For that, one would possibly have to stand directly under the ringing bells.
