Aargau realigns international location marketing

The canton of Aargau is turning its back on the international location marketing efforts of the «Greater Zurich Area» organization. The Grand Council is now placing its trust in OSEC, the Swiss foreign trade promotion agency, and the Basel Area association.

Participation in the "Greater Zurich Area" organization is no longer up for debate. On Tuesday, all parties spoke out in favor of the reorientation of location marketing proposed by the cantonal government. Parliament approved a framework credit of CHF 2.4 million for the years 2012 to 2015 by a large majority so that the canton can implement the concept, as SDA writes on Tuesday. The OSEC platforms and activities are to be used more intensively for Aargau in target markets such as the USA, India and Japan.

OSEC has been running international location promotions on behalf of the federal government and the cantons since 2009. As a regional location marketing organization, the Basel Area Association has a clear industrial focus. With the reorientation, parliament and the cantonal government are drawing the consequences of the withdrawal from the "Greater Zurich Area" GZA marketing organization as of October 2010. The benefits of the GZA "remained far below expectations", according to SDA. Over a period of five years, four companies with twelve jobs had settled in Aargau through the mediation of the GZA. The modest cost-benefit ratio was repeatedly criticized in the cantonal parliament.

Personnel changes in the Press Council and its Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees of the «Swiss Press Council» Foundation made a series of personnel decisions in November. Bernard Cathomas, the former director of Radio Televisiun Rumantsch (RTR), will take over as chairman of the «Swiss Press Council» Foundation effective July 1, 2012, succeeding Ticino-based journalist Enrico Morresi, who is stepping down at the end of 2011.

In the first half of 2012, Philipp Cueni, Editor-in-Chief of "Edito", will act as interim Chairman of the Board of Trustees. As part of the general election that takes place every four years, the Board of Trustees also confirmed all 13 members of the Press Council who were standing for re-election. In addition to Press Council President Dominique von Burg, who was re-elected in spring 2011, Max Trossmann and Francesca Snider were newly elected as Vice Presidents. The Press Council writes this in a press release on Presseportal.ch.

Last but not least: British lobbyist brags about influence on government

British investigative reporters have published secret recordings of employees of a PR agency. In them, the employees boast about their influence on the British government.

Tim Collins from the communications firm Bell Pottinger, for example, explains that he developed close ties with Prime Minister David Cameron and Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne during their time together in the Conservative Tory party's research department. Collins says this in the notes published by The Independent newspaper, according to SDA. He says: "It's not a problem to get the message across". Accordingly, Cameron raised a copyright dispute involving engineering firm Dyson with Chinese leader Wen Jiabao "because we asked him to". The opposition Labor Party spoke of "very serious allegations" that shed light on the problems of the lobbying system. Has Tom Collins confused reality with his own PR dreams? In any case, a spokesman for Cameron denied the accuracy of Collins' comments. According to SDA, he described the comments as "outrageous" and "a load of garbage". "Neither Bell Pottinger nor any other lobbying firm has any influence on government policy," the spokesman said.

Contexta: First buy a train ticket, then board the train

On posters, advertisements, door stickers on trains, flyers, banners and films on eBoards and POS screens, it also shows the contemporary alternative to paying for a bus, namely to buy your ticket conveniently via smartphone just like the trendy Schmutzli - before boarding, of course. The campaign is rounded off by a promotion on SBB trains on, how could it be otherwise, St. Nicholas Day.

"One Hundred": Photo book celebrating the 100th birthday of the Swiss illustrated magazine

One hundred portraits of one hundred Swiss personalities, described by one hundred authors: This is the content of «Hundert,» the official anniversary book published by Schweizer Illustrierte to mark its 100th anniversary.

The personalities were photographed by Marco Grob, a portrait photographer who now lives and works in New York. There is hardly a world-famous personality who has not stood in front of Marco Grob's Hasselblad camera, according to a Ringier release on Tuesday. His images regularly grace the covers of major publications such as Time or New York Times Magazine.

In recent months, Grob has portrayed one hundred celebrities exclusively for Schweizer Illustrierte. The results are extraordinary, unique and impressive photographs. Grob is, as he himself says, "obsessed with reading the human face," and you can see that in his pictures, Ringier continues. According to Grob, "Every face is like a kind of code - you just have to know how to read it."

Each person in Marco Grob's portrait pictures is described in the book by an author - writers, artists, athletes, federal councilors. From a very personal point of view. And in surprising combinations. The result is a book about the diversity of Switzerland. Or as publisher Michael Ringier describes it: "It's a book about life."

"One Hundred" will be available in bookstores on December 13.
Format 255 x 310 mm, 160 pages, hardcover, ISBN 978-3-280-05467-3, subscription price 49 francs (until 31.1.2012), regular price 69 francs (from 1.2.2012)

Schoch&Sonders communicates for Schuler St. Jakobs Kellerei

The Schuler St. Jakobs Winery’s flagship brands are Don Pascual from Spain and Selezione Fellini from Italy. This year, Schoch&Sonders handled the entire process—from strategy to design—for the new launch of Selezione Fellini and the relaunch of Don Pascual.

A relaunch of the spirits was planned for 2011 and commissioned to the brand agency Schoch&Sonders. Don Pascual was supplemented with the emotional value of "having time" for the special target group of spirits. The design, which is intended to convey precisely these values, is characterized by illustrations made of ink drawings reminiscent of seafaring and is supported by a subtle and calm color scheme. The design was implemented on three products: The brandy and the two sherries Fino and Cream.

St. JakobsKellerei has established and presented a new fine wine called Amanero since October. According to the agency, the special combination of Amanero vinification and the Nero d'Avola grape from the Sicily growing region makes the Selezione Fellini Amanero a rarity. The brand strategy therefore focused specifically on quality leadership. As a symbol, drying grapes on straw were depicted abstractly and graphically. To reflect the value and the Fellini brand, the symbol was kept in gold and used throughout the brand image.

Responsible at Schoch&Sonders: Dominik Schoch (owner, design and concept), Roman Sonders (owner, strategy and concept), Annina Benz, Tina Fuchs (project management), Dominiquw Ghilardi, David Moore, Nina Schoch, Anja Hegelbach (design).

Formula three for the new "space and time" tariff system

In order to make the use of public transport even simpler and more uniform, the Libero fare network will adopt the "Space and Time" system, which is already used by many Swiss fare networks, on December 11, 2011. Formeldrei has communicated this in a new campaign.

Now you can use the system to buy a Libero ticket for any number of journeys within the selected zones (space) during the printed period of validity (time). New spaces, infinite worlds - what could be more obvious than staging the advantages of the new fare system with a space traveler, in a real Nasa suit, who was on an Apollo mission in space, the agency said in a press release on Tuesday. In a teasing phase, the campaign invites public transport users to make a statement on the subject at Ichbinlibero.ch to inform the public. From the day of the changeover, on the occasion of the national timetable change on 11.12.2011, concrete information on the system change will supplement the communication, and the new website of the Libero fare network will be presented entirely in the look of the campaign.

Advertisements, outdoor and vehicle advertising, information flyers, screen designs for the ticket machines, e-panels, internal training documents and distribution campaigns at the larger stations with giveaways in the form of multivitamin drinks are being realized.

Responsible at Formeldrei: Andreas Thommen (AD), Christian Wüthrich, Marco Mesot (text, concept), Patrick Ochsenbein (consulting). Photo: Janosch Abel, Bern. Former Blick chief deacon Martin Speich dead

Martin Speich, the former editor-in-chief of *Blick*, died last Saturday in Affoltern am Albis, Zurich, at the age of 79, from complications of pneumonia. Speich served as editor-in-chief of *Blick* for nearly ten years during the tabloid’s early days.

Ringier spokesman Edi Estermann confirmed to the news agency a corresponding report by the media service Kleinreport on Tuesday. From 1964, the former agency journalist initially formed a three-man management team at the newspaper for three years together with Charles La Roche and Claus Wilhelm. He then became sole editor-in-chief and publishing director at the same time. According to a Ringier documentary, he built up Blick as an independent brand and took an "open-minded, rather left-liberal political line". Speich led the loss-making newspaper into the black for the first time. He whipped up circulation with effective marketing campaigns.

When the Ringier publishing house wanted to restrict the powers of the Blick boss, he was dismissed without notice "for insubordination". He then took legal action to obtain a severance payment of several years' salary. Together with publisher Carlo Frey, Speich then set up the European licensed edition of Penthouse, initially from Zurich and later from Munich. The magazine project was extremely successful. According to his ex-wife Suzanne Speich, Speich later worked mainly as a book author and wrote brochures, for example about the Red Cross or animal welfare, as the SDA writes further.

Last but not least: Strange things happen

Strange things have been happening lately to the protagonist of a commercial—he says that no matter what he does, he suddenly finds himself in the middle of a movie. Over and over again.

Sometimes he discovers a bound and gagged man in the trunk of his car, sometimes he is surprised by the Grim Reaper, or he finds himself in some other movie scene. All he wants is to be left in peace. The advertisement is for the video on demand service Canal Digital. The claim "We bring the movies to you" is taken extremely literally ...
