SRG signs "Pacte de l'audiovisuel"

As part of the Solothurn Film Festival, the SRG renewed the «Pacte de l'audiovisuel» for the years 2012–2015. In it, the SRG commits to supporting independent filmmaking with 22.3 million Swiss francs annually.

The agreement with the most important film producer associations has been in place since 1997, and SRG announced on Friday that it co-produces over 200 cinema, television, documentary and animated films and series nationwide every year as part of the Pacte de l'audiovisuel. With annual support amounting to CHF 22.3 million, SRG remains the country's most important co-producer. As before, the new pact distinguishes between selective and automatic support.

Around CHF 18 million is available annually for selective funding, of which CHF 11 million is earmarked for television productions and CHF 7 million for the co-production of cinema films. Independent productions in the multimedia sector are now also supported.

This will increase the amount of funding for television productions by CHF 3 million. In return, the Federal Office of Culture is reducing its selective funds previously reserved for television productions and is thus funding the greatly expanded performance-based film promotion. This provides for two instruments: In addition to the "Succès Passage Antenne" award, which rewards the broadcasting of films on SRG channels, the "Succès Artistique" award will now also be presented for artistically valuable films. Swiss films that are invited to important national and international festivals and receive awards there will benefit from this new cultural promotion.

Mirror inwards and outwards

"Swiss film is a mirror of Switzerland and a Swiss mirror of the world. A massive commitment to local directors and producers is part of the public service out of conviction," SRG Director General Roger de Weck is quoted as saying in the press release.

According to SRG, it has invested more than CHF 275 million in the Swiss film industry since the agreement was signed. SRG not only reports on culture, it also makes culture possible, continued de Weck. (SDA)

Agency at the airport becomes industry winner in the yearbook of advertising

The recyclable annual report that the agency created at the airport for Entsorgung St. Gallen was named the industry winner in the B2B services category.

The Annual Report was printed on perforated A4 paper glued to the top so that the annual report could simply be turned over after reading and reused as a notepad. The 24-member jury of experts liked this. As did two other works by the agency from Altenrhein, which made it to the final: "AWZ goes into the sawdust with its customers" for the Bernese AWZ and the guerrilla campaign "A piece of cleanliness" for Pronto Reinigung.

Did Köppel pay two million for Weltwoche?

Roger Köppel is said to have paid only two million for *Die Weltwoche*. This is according to the newspaper *Der Sonntag*. Until now, the sale price had regularly been estimated at over ten million francs.

The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung still quoted this amount on Saturday. But this is wrong, it says in Sonntag. According to a source involved in the sale, Köppel was able to buy the paper from Tito Tettamanti for two million francs, although the value was estimated at around 20 million francs at the time. Köppel had been able to raise half of the amount himself. For the other half, he had taken out a bank loan. Köppel neither confirmed nor denied this account to the Sonntagspublikation.

Last but not least: Why SBB should be downgraded to SBC

On Tuesday, the Zurich S-Bahn network was brought to a standstill due to a power outage. This clearly demonstrated how useful social media can be for commuters.

While the SBB communications department itself was chasing the latest information, commuters waiting for trains were often already well informed. They published snapshots of the SBB information screens with the latest departure times and platform numbers on Twitter, Facebook and the like.

Naturally, SBB had to put up with some malicious comments on social networks due to the breakdown and suboptimal communication: "With all the delays, SBB will soon be downgraded to SBC," wrote one user, for example. Someone else commented: "If my fingers weren't clammy from the cold, I could tweet away my SBB frustration better".

Incidentally, the power failure occurred because a passenger who had fallen asleep on the train pulled the emergency brake in panic when he woke up. Unfortunately, the train came to a standstill on a so-called section insulator with different voltages, which led to a short circuit.

News from the Design Lab

Design Labor is handling the redesign of the Auto-Online automotive platform, has won a pitch to redesign the Unternehmer Zeitung website, and is looking for female moderators.

Auto-online is one of the most successful Swiss car portals and offers access to around 80,000 daily updated new and used cars. In addition, interested parties can also find out about leasing, direct import, insurance and the latest car news on this car platform. The Design Labor won a pitch for the redesign of the website of the Zurich-based entrepreneur, Swiss Businesspress.

Labor Design want to change their concept and produce their films primarily with moderation and not with voiceover as before. They are therefore looking for suitable presenters, according to a press release. The Design Labor casting will take place on Saturday, January 21. For various video productions - interviews, event coverage, company and product presentations and event moderation - they are looking for presenters who are competent, self-confident and have a fresh charisma when presenting in front of the camera. The joy of working in front of the camera and a high level of communication are just as important as a good body awareness. From numerous applications, we decided on eight interesting candidates and invited them to the casting.

National Council Commission wants state support for the press

The Federal Council should quickly submit proposals to Parliament for new models for press subsidies. This is the demand of the National Council's State Policy Committee (SPK). It sees the democratic political functions of the media as increasingly being called into question.

With 15 votes to 0 and six abstentions, the commission accepted a motion, as it announced on Friday. If the councils agree, the Federal Council must present a funding concept and a draft legal basis for indirect and direct media funding within two years. An overall view of the Swiss media landscape is to serve as a basis, which the Federal Council is to take in hand immediately. The aim is to safeguard the state and democratic functions of the media, writes the commission.

Last summer, the Federal Council spoke out against an early intervention by the state. It was aware that the media played an important role in democracy and the formation of public opinion, it stated in a report. However, in view of the Internet, the media must first and foremost master the challenges themselves. The Federal Council does not want to make a new assessment of the situation for another four years. If it then becomes clear that the media's efforts are not sufficient to ensure the services necessary from the point of view of state and democracy policy, it will consider additional support measures.

The Federal Council's report also took into account studies on press promotion. One of them took a close look at the effect of the subsidy measures. The authors came to the conclusion that the publishers and associations are relieved by the current subsidies. However, a direct effect with regard to the political goal of journalistic diversity was not evident. The study recommended that the press be promoted in a more targeted and selective manner. Direct press subsidies would require a constitutional amendment.

Today, the Swiss media are supported exclusively by indirect measures. On the one hand, newspapers benefit from reduced postal delivery rates, and on the other from a special rate of value-added tax. The State Policy Committees of the National Council and Council of States had pushed for a change earlier: two years ago, they approved a parliamentary initiative for a new model of press subsidies. Ruf Lanz for Suva: Caution slippery

In winter, it’s often slippery, which leads to more accidents. To raise awareness about the need for caution, Ruf Lanz created a “soap staircase” for Suva Liv to illustrate the danger.

In winter, public spaces are particularly dangerous for pedestrians. Especially on stairs, the danger of slipping on snow, slush and ice is great and injuries can occur. In order to call for special caution, Ruf Lanz has created the soap staircase motif for the Suva Liv brand, which surprisingly dramatizes the danger of slipping in winter. It will be used throughout the winter.

Schoch & Sonders for the 21st Century Beetle

Schoch & Sonders has developed a comprehensive POS concept for Volkswagen. It is currently being used for the first time for the new 21st Century Beetle. In addition, innovative light projections have been implemented in Swiss cities.

"The challenge was to develop a cross-model concept that on the one hand integrates into the Volkswagen brand design, but on the other hand can also be used individually for each future model. Schoch & Sonders convinced us with their approach," says Sandra Grau, Marketing Manager Volkswagen PW at AMAG Switzerland. The color, image and structure concept is currently being used for the first time for the 21st Century Beetle and works on a wide variety of formats and materials. For example, on flags, decorative posters, window stickers and gadgets, which are used at a total of 165 VW dealers in Switzerland.

In addition to the standardized material for the dealers and the central launch campaign, VW commissioned Schoch & Sonders with the realization of light projections. The idea was based on the analogy between the silhouette of the 21st Century Beetle and the shape of the Beetle, by which name the vehicle was known in its original form. Beetles were animated, which crawl over house walls, form the silhouette of the 21st Century Beetle and finally present the vehicle. The light projections took place in 6 Swiss cities (Zurich, Bern, Basel, Lugano, Lausanne, Geneva). The animation was so well received that it was also used for an online advertising form and in print advertising.

Responsible at Schoch & Sonders: Dominik Schoch and Roman Sonders (strategy and concept), Annina Deucher and Tina Fuchs (project management), Dominique Ghilardi, David Moore, Nina Schoch and Anja Hegelbach (design). Responsible at AMAG Auto Motoren AG: Sandra Grau (Marketing Manager) and Nathalie Mösch (Advertising Specialist).
