SRG and SSM: No agreement yet on new CLA

Even after the fourth round of negotiations, the SRG and the media union SSM have been unable to reach an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA). A final and decisive meeting is now scheduled for mid-May.

The last meeting of the fourth round lasted until late in the evening, SRG spokesperson Daniel Steiner told the SDA news agency on Saturday. But a consensus could not be found. However, the parties had agreed not to break off the negotiations, but to schedule an additional meeting in mid-May, said Steiner. Only four rounds were actually planned. Steiner did not want to reveal whether the positions were still far apart.

The Swiss Syndicate of Media Professionals (SSM) also provided no information on the status of the negotiations. "We have agreed to maintain confidentiality," said SSM Central Secretary Stephan Ruppen on request. "This is a delicate matter and there is still a need for discussion and clarification on both sides."

The union had previously accused SRG of wanting to further increase working time flexibility while at the same time reducing compensation for irregular working hours. The union also resisted comparisons with working conditions in private media companies. Their position: SRG is not a normal company because it is committed to public service.

The current SRG collective employment agreement has been in force since the beginning of 2009 and expires at the end of 2012. (SDA)

Blick TV with new applications for iPad and iPhone

The Blick Group has enhanced its mobile TV offering with two new apps for iPhone and iPad.

47 channels, replay function, extensive search functions and a new type of TV guide are just some of the many advantages of the new Blick TV offer, which is now available in the iTunes Store, the Blick Group said in a statement on Friday. Thanks to the prebooking option, users will no longer miss a show. If, however, a program can only be watched afterwards, this is possible through the Airplay support of Apple TV on the TV at home, thanks to Replay TV with up to 31 days in retrospect. The video wall function also shows live images of all current programs exclusively on the iPad.

The free application can be found in the iTunes Store with the keyword "BlickTV".

Zürichsee Medien: Concession for Capital FM obtained

The DETEC has approved, without conditions, the transfer of the Capital FM license—previously held by Espace Media—to Zürichsee Medien, effective May 1, 2012.

The appeal period against the decision ended without any objections, as Capital FM writes in a press release on Friday. The sale between Espace Media and Zürichsee Medien will therefore be completed on Tuesday, May 1, 2012.

In the middle of last year, Tamedia announced that it had decided to examine the sale of the radio and TV stations as part of the merger with Edipresse Suisse. In December it was then announced that Capital FM would be sold to the family-owned company Zürichsee Medien, based in Stäfa. A total of 28 employees (22.4 full-time positions) will be transferred to Zürichsee Medien, which also owns the magazine marketing company Zürichsee Werbe AG in addition to Radio Zürisee. Together with Radio Zürisee, this creates a strong broadcasting network in the Bern, Winterthur and Zurich regions under the umbrella of Zürichsee Medien.

Journal B: Beat Kohler becomes editor-in-chief

The new Bern-based online magazine is set to launch in early September. Beat Kohler, who previously worked for the Jungfrau Zeitung in the Bernese Oberland, will serve as editor-in-chief of Journal B.

The Jungfrau Zeitung has relied heavily on the Internet since it was founded in 2000. The choice of Kohler is therefore a stroke of luck, writes the Bernese Online Media Association in a press release on Friday. Kohler will now work with project manager Manuel Gnos to further develop Journal B. The next step will be to fill the editorial team and choose a layout and marketing measures.

The technical collaboration with the company Sourcefabric in Berlin and Tageswoche Basel has already been agreed. The launch of Journal B is secured thanks to substantial donations from various foundations. Further funding will be provided by contributions from association members.

According to its own statements, the magazine aims to contribute to the diversity of opinion in the federal city. The board of the supporting association includes Bern city councillors Urs Frieden (Greens) and Thomas Göttin (SP). The initiative committee includes numerous cultural figures and exponents from the left-green camp. (SDA)

"At Agefi, the goal has been reached".

Dominique Hiltbrunner, a 34-year-old publisher, quickly got the French-Swiss business newspaper Agefi back on track. And almost as an afterthought, he bought five magazines and is turning them around as well. Markus Knöpfli spoke with the Basel-Landschaft-based jack-of-all-trades.

WW: Mr. Hiltbrunner, how would you describe your character?
Dominique Hiltbrunner: That is difficult. With dynamic, sometimes a little choleric, clear and direct, visionary, quality and cost-conscious ...

... and with little seat leather?
That's right. In Lausanne, I'm responsible for the two companies Agefi and Media City. In Berne I have Automobil Revue and Schweizer Bauer, in Basel Spatz and in Zurich Women in Business and Blickpunkt: KMU. With these four locations, the train is my office.

I meant rather that you don't stay in one place for long. Take Agefi, for example: you joined there a year ago as a director and member of the Board of Directors, but now you've already taken your director's hat off again. Why is that?
I was brought in to restructure, Agefi had been doing relatively badly for two or three years with an almost 18 percent loss in turnover. I spent three months analyzing the situation and started to restructure the company in February 2011. From then on, I took over as director. The reorganization took about ten months, and in 2011 we were able to close the year with a profit of 50,000 francs again, with a turnover of 7 million francs. So the goal had been achieved. I created new structures and installed Martin Schädel as Director ad inter im. Now it is enough for me to review the processes as an active member of the Board of Directors.
