Fairtrade continues to grow in 2011

Despite the tense economic situation, sales of Fairtrade products are increasing. In 2011, sales of Fairtrade-certified products rose by 8% to CHF 328.3 million.

For the first time, over 1,600 Fairtrade articles were available in the retail and food service sectors. Telesuisse calls for better framework conditions

The framework conditions for Swiss regional television must be improved. That was the general consensus at this year’s general meeting of Telesuisse, the Association of Swiss Regional Television Stations, which took place on Friday in Bern.

Although the regional television stations are well anchored in their regions and provide an indispensable daily public service, the economic situation is not easy for the broadcasters. This was also shown by a recently published study by Publicom, which was commissioned by the Federal Office of Communications Bakom together with the associations of private radio and television stations, Telesuisse wrote in a statement on Friday. Therefore, Telesuisse demands from authorities and politicians that everything is done to improve the framework conditions for regional television stations. This is the only way to maintain and expand the quality of regional television reporting.

The upcoming revision of the Radio and Television Act (RTVA) is of great importance. The new Vice Director and Head of the Radio and Television Department at Bakom, Nancy Wayland Bigler, explained the federal government's ideas on this at the Telesuisse meeting.

Changes at Telesuisse in the Board of Directors
In order to be able to devote himself fully to his task as the upcoming President of the Council of States, the previous, long-standing Telesuisse President Filippo Lombardi has resigned. However, he remains available to the association as a member of the board. The presidency will be taken over by the current vice president André Moesch, head of electronic media at the St. Galler Tagblatt. Christophe Rasch (La Télé) was elected as Vice President and Marc Friedli (Tele M1, Tele Bärn) as a further member of the Board. Sabrina Carron is the new managing director of the association.

Live Experiences saves energy with Stadtwerke Gossau

In 2012, Stadtwerke Gossau SG focused its communications efforts on energy conservation. Through a campaign in the local newspaper, the utility is sharing household energy-saving tips from real residents of the town who are already putting these tips into practice.

The campaign focuses on Gossau personalities and members of the public who set a good example and consciously save energy every day. In a competition in the local newspaper, readers are invited to send their personal energy-saving tip to the municipal utilities. The prize is a shopping voucher from the specialist stores in Gossau SG and an energy brush from the municipal utilities. The winning and customer gift symbolizes the act of mopping up in front of your own door. Energy saving is the topic of conversation or thought when the gift is handed over and used.

The success of the campaign is based on the local awareness of the everyday protagonists and the transfer from the advertisement to everyday life with the energy broom, according to the agency. It gives the personal efforts relevance. Attention is raised by the likelihood that viewers know the people personally or from seeing them. The suspense of who will be seen here next is intended to trigger a certain "search for energy-saving opportunities" and create the desire to stand in this place yourself. They provide the material for the stories: "Do good and talk about it."

A Fiat hangs at Zurich's main train station

These days, a striking 3D installation by Fiat Group Automobiles Switzerland is catching the eye of passersby at Zurich’s main train station. Four of the company’s cars are suspended in all directions from a giant, illuminated cube.

A 13.5-meter-high and 4.0-meter-wide cube stands in the Wannerhalle of Zurich's main train station, with a full-size Fiat 500 model mounted on each side. With this campaign, Fiat wants to draw attention to Fiat 500 Style Day with Bruce Darnell on June 9, 2012 in Zurich's Sihlcity shopping center. This special form of advertising was commissioned by the customer Fiat from APG|SGA Mega Poster, according to an APG|SGA release.

The cube was created in close collaboration with the creative agency Hessskisssulzersutter and the long-standing APG|SGA mega-poster partner Richnerstutz. The cube consists of a truss construction and is covered with printed canvas. The Fiat 500 models are dummies, made with fiberglass technology. This makes the cars much lighter than original models and enables this unusually large staging.

The giant cube is on display at Zurich Main Station until June 5, 2012.

CR Basel: "Helping people out of depression

Following the first year of the «Help with Depression» campaign launched by the Department of Health of the Canton of Basel-Stadt, the second edition is now underway: an image featuring people in a confined space.

The motif has already been taken up by the Hamburg news magazine Der Spiegel. It is intended to express the exceptional psychological situation. The subject also opens this year's 2012 poster campaign, again conceived and realized by CR Basel. The basic message is now followed after two weeks by subjects with an empty box and an accessory left behind - as a visualization of the liberation that follows the illness, culminating in the statement "Depression is treatable.

Responsible at the Department of Health Basel-Stadt: Thomas Steffen (FMH Head of Prevention and Public Health), Christina Karpf, Nicole Zingg, Caroline Guggisberg (Academic Staff). Responsible at CR Basel: Gabriel Heuberger (CD), Philipp Schweizer (text), David Burkhardt (AD/photos), Thomas Fux (consulting).

Brand concept for Swiss start-up from Ideenhaus

There is a new name in the exclusive world of welted shoe manufacturers: Silany. The Ideenhaus brand agency has created the starting basis for the new company.

This includes the brand design, concept and realization of the website as well as the outfitting of the shoe consultants by Ideenhaus. From April 2012, men in the greater Zurich area will be able to try on their handmade business shoes at home, in the office or in the showroom in Baden with the personal support of a Silany shoe consultant. The desired shoe models are selected online and the consultation appointment is also arranged online. Then, on the private couch, in the office or in the showroom, the Silany advisor answers all questions and brings the desired models with them to try on.

The brand design for Silany has already been implemented on the website. Information about the shoe collection on offer and, of course, the exact procedure can be found here. Incidentally, the silany shoe consultants are equipped with a specially developed, stylish roll container, which Ideenhaus was involved in developing.

95,000 francs in donations for left-wing newspaper P.S.

The left-wing Zurich newspaper P.S. has been saved for the time being. Following a full-page appeal for help published in its own pages in early May, the editorial office received nearly 95,000 francs in donations. This was not the first time the paper had been saved by donations.

In Thursday's edition, the political and cultural newspaper printed the donations to date: the editorial team, which is also the owner, received 94,628 francs from subscribers and sympathizers. This means that P.S. will continue, the editorial team wrote.

At the beginning of May, the paper announced its impending demise in an appeal for donations. If 100,000 francs were not donated quickly, the newspaper would not survive the summer. There was no further potential for savings and the paper would rather close than "continue for a few more months and then leave unpaid bills behind".

Donations as a fixed business model

The newspaper, which is primarily read by sympathizers and members of the SP and the Greens, has been in the red for years. Although the annual deficit of CHF 50,000 is not large, it could never be covered in the long term.

Appeals for donations seem to be developing into a permanent business model at P.S. Before the current appeal for help, publisher Koni Loepfe, former SP president of the city of Zurich, had already decided on this measure several times. In 2004, for example, the appeal for donations appeared under the title "Dörfs es bitzeli meh si?". At that time, 50,000 francs were raised within a few weeks. (SDA)
