Omega: Start me up!

Omega has unveiled its global advertising campaign for the London Games. The official timekeeper of the London 2012 Olympic Games wants to celebrate the brand's rich Olympic history and the great moments at the heart of the Olympic movement.

The TV commercial has been produced in a 30-second and a 60-second version. It shows the Chinese water jumper Qiu Bo, the US swimmer Natalie Coughlin, the British heptathlete Jessica Ennis, the US sprinter Tyson Gay, the South African swimmer Chad Le Clos and the US pole vaulter Jenn Suhr. Their rituals and concentration in the crucial minutes and seconds before a competition are brought into focus as a moment for every athlete that can be groundbreaking for their entire performance. The soundtrack was provided by the Rolling Stones, who are celebrating fifty years as London's most legendary music group in this Olympic year. Their 1981 hit "Start Me Up", with its pulsating and absolutely unmistakable guitar riff at the beginning, was remixed by star producer Don Was and now provides the musical backdrop for the athletes.

"The shooting schedule and locations for the commercial were quite ambitious," explained Omega President Stephen Urquhart. "But the result is dynamic and emotional, and we're very happy with it." The commercial was shot at five different locations in South Florida. Ennis and Suhr shot at the 75,000-capacity Sun Life Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins NFL team; the rowers from the local Miami Rowing Club and an archer with big Olympic aspirations at Miami Marine Stadium; Qiu Bo on the 10-meter tower at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex; Tyson Gay and his training partners from Pure Athletics in Orlando at Curtis Park in Miami; and Coughlin and Le Clos at the new Ransom Everglades School swimming complex.

Omega will also be celebrating its eightieth anniversary since its debut as Official Timekeeper at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. In 1948, the last time the Games were held in London, the company was there to help introduce modern sports timekeeping.

City of Zurich puts poster space management out to tender again

The City of Zurich wants to encourage more competition in the placement of posters on public property. For this reason, the management of the 1,800 poster spaces will be put out to bid under a new format.

For the first time, the city of Zurich is also offering individual poster sites for lease. As the city announced on Wednesday, smaller poster companies or even end customers will also be able to bid for advertising space. In addition to 416 large-format sites for national and international advertising campaigns, 980 small poster sites will also be put out to tender. This so-called "world format" is particularly suitable for advertising regional and local businesses. The city is also looking for new managers for the 420 or so cultural poster spaces. (sda)

Last but not least: Disney on a diet

Disney plans to ban unhealthy food from its channels—especially those aimed at children and families. In the future, commercials during breaks will no longer promote products high in fat or sugar.

The new rules will apply from 2015. This was announced by the company on Tuesday, according to SDA. The manufacturers of chocolate bars, potato potato chips and ready meals have so far been an important advertising customer on Disney's television and radio channels and websites. Now the manufacturers will also have to do without Mickey and Donald on their packaging or advertising posters.

The broadcaster has even received encouragement for this decision from the very top: President's wife Michelle Obama supports the first initiative of its kind in the USA. She describes this action as a turning point for the health of "our children". With Disney, a global brand is changing its business "so that our children can live healthier lives". According to the SDA, 36 percent of people in the USA are obese; the figure for children is half as high. And so, according to Michell Obama, broadcasters should ask themselves the following question when advertising on their channels in future: "Is this good for our children?"

125 years Willisauer Bote

The first issue of the *Willisauer Bote* was published on May 14, 1887. The local newspaper for the Lucerne hinterland and the Wiggertal Valley will celebrate its 125th anniversary on June 15 during the company’s annual general meeting.

On Friday, June 15, the "Willisauer Bote" celebrates its birthday with over 400 shareholders, readers and guests from the worlds of politics and business at the company's Annual General Meeting. A 125th anniversary magazine is also published on June 19, which is distributed to all households in the catchment area together with the WB large print run.

With a circulation of 9,151 subscribers and 25,000 readers, the Willisauer Bote is the largest local newspaper in the canton of Lucerne. The foundation stone for the WB's success story was laid by an Aargau native: in 1883, Adolf Kuhn-Breitschmid from Wohlen joined the print shop of Konrad Kneubühler from Willisau as a typesetter. In 1851, Kneubühler published the first newspaper in the Lucerne countryside, the liberal weekly "Der Hinterländer". But Kuhn wanted to be his own boss. In the spring of 1887, he set up his own business and founded the "Buch- und Accidenz-Druckerei Ad. Kuhn". The first issue of the "Willisauer Bote" appeared on May 14, 1887. However, Kuhn had no intention of creating a political newspaper. His aim was solely to create an advertising organ for the trade. This changed with the emergence of competing publications that were clearly pro-Freisinn. The WB then took on the role of the conservative newspaper of the Lucerne hinterland for decades. Josef J. Zihlmann, its editor-in-chief for many years, was primarily responsible for the political opening of the local newspaper in the 1980s. Since 2004, the WB has been published with a split edition for the Lucerne Wiggertal, the Wiggertaler Bote. In addition, the WB has also been available in digital form as an e-paper since April 8, 2011.

The Willisauer Bote is a title of SWS Medien Verlag based in Willisau and is published twice a week (Tuesday, Friday). The Allmedia offer, the news via mobile application and the e-paper are available at all times. A total of 22 people work for the title with different workloads.

Kobalt designs the new Sistag appearance

Sistag, an internationally active company, has commissioned Kobalt to develop a brand strategy. The process began with a study by the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, which recommended joining forces and presenting a unified image worldwide.

The background to this was that the company appeared in German-speaking countries with Sistag, while the Wey brand name dominated in exports. Thus, the name Wey was given more weight without the company name Sistag disappearing. This took into account the brand assets as well as the traditional values, the agency wrote in a statement on Wednesday.

In this context, the agency has given the Wey logo a complete redesign. The colors black and red are intended to give the brand a self-confident character and testify to strength. The Wey lettering was redeveloped. According to the agency, the Swiss origin is of particular importance and is appropriately acknowledged in the logo with the Swiss cross and the expression "Swiss Performance".

The visual world used by Sistag up to now was very product-focused. The visual appearance was therefore to be elevated to a new level that would also do justice to the innovative and quality-conscious company. According to the agency, new messages such as flexibility, safety and durability were to be reflected in the visual world. The basis for this were Wey products in an unconventional context. This new imagery is used in a wide variety of advertising materials.

Responsible at Sistag: Hans-Jörg Sidler (President & CEO), Kurt Meyer (Marketing & Sales Director), Ambros Aschwanden (Technical Director). Responsible at Cobalt: Norbert Brunner (Art Direction), Oliver Stadelmann (Consulting), Dany Bucher (Text).

New Lürzer's Archive 200 Best Food & Drink

What do Marie Antoinette and a hot dog have in common? They’re both on the cover of the new Lürzer’s Archive 200 Best Food & Drink 2000–2010.

The 330-page book is another product in the 200 Best series. Divided into different categories, it features the 200 best ads related to food & drink of the last decade. This time, the Facebook community was involved in the decision-making process for choosing the cover, according to a Lürzer's Archive release. The choices were a McDonald's poster by DDB, Stockholm; a beer ad by Catalan agency Caldas Naya; a soy sauce ad by TBWA, Hong Kong; a chili powder campaign by Crayons Agency, New Delhi; a coffee-filled confectionery ad by Leo Burnett, Milan; and a burst orange for Chupa Chups lollipops by George Patterson, Y&R, Melbourne.

This poll achieved the highest participation of fans on Facebook to date: A total of 1,662 users voted 1,000,736 times. The race for the cover was won by "Marie Antoinette," the ad for the Alsatian beer A. K. Damm from the Caldas Naya agency - the clear favorite with over a third of the votes. Editor-in-chief Michael Weinzettl ultimately also gave his okay.

The brand with the most ads in the book is McDonald's with eight, closely followed by Heinz with seven. In beer advertising, Stella Artois leads the way with six ads, Guinness has five, and in non-alcoholic beverages, Pepsi and Evian are tied with three ads each in the book. All in all, 230 ads from the last decade made it into the book, divided into the categories: alcoholic beverages, non-alcoholic beverages, food, confectionery & snacks, and bars & restaurants.

Since 1998, Lürzer's Archiv has regularly produced special issues such as "Advertising Photography" and "Commercial Illustration" in addition to the bi-monthly magazine. The "200 Best" series has been published since 2004 and has already produced four "200 Best Photographers" and four "200 Best Illustrators". "Packaging Design" and "200 Best Automotive 2000 - 2010", published in 2009, complete the series, and "200 Best Food & Drink 2000 - 2010" is now being added as a further title.
