Andreas Widmer elected IAA President Switzerland

Andreas Widmer, CEO of Y&R Group Switzerland, was elected the new president of IAA Switzerland at the IAA’s annual general meeting. He succeeds Daniel Hofer, who had held the position since 2009.

In Switzerland, the IAA is represented by the IAA Swiss Chapter and the associated IAA Young Professionals. The Swiss Chapter, which was founded in Switzerland in 1962, currently has around 175 members. The Young Professionals, which has existed since 1996, currently has just under 80 members.

These chapters are intended to promote the exchange of ideas and information between members here in the Swiss market. They are dedicated to the promotion of qualified young talent and offer members regular events that address relevant and current topics from business, marketing and communication - especially from an international perspective. The chapters facilitate contacts with IAA members in other countries and provide access to the numerous services of the global organization.

Euro RSCG Zurich: Longest chain novel for Riposa

Can a serialized story be used to promote mattress bases? Euro RSCG Zurich has shown how it’s done by launching a custom-made serialized story on Facebook for its client, Riposa.

Under the title "A colorful dream - the longest chain novel of all time", users can try their hand at writing funny texts. The only requirement: true to the novel's title, each sentence must contain a color. The impetus for this social media campaign, which is aimed at young people in particular, came from a new product range: Riposa is launching colored insert frames for the first time in Switzerland.

To ensure that as many amateur authors as possible take part in the social media campaign, there is an additional incentive: in addition to a prize draw, the novel will also be published in print at a later date.

The campaign is currently being advertised on various online banners, in print ads and on Facebook Ads and has been available at Facebook.com/riposa since June 8, 2012.

Responsible at Riposa: Walter Schnellmann (Executive Board), Iva Schnellmann (Marketing Management). Responsible at Euro RSCG Zurich: Frank Bodin (overall responsibility), Axel Eckstein (CD), Wolfgang Bark (text/concept), Andrea Huber, Suzanne Friedli (AD), Laurie Morard (graphics) Walter Tagliaferri, Janina Iseli (consulting), Michael Wegmüller (web project manager).

Net-Metrix: Wave of visitors spills over French news sites

Due to the numerous holidays in May, traffic on many websites was only slightly higher than in April, which had been a slow month for traffic. Meanwhile, Switzerland’s largest French-language news sites recorded one of the heaviest surges in visitor traffic ever measured in Switzerland.

This anomaly was caused by an old pigtail of French legislation. The website operators were forewarned: Since French media were not allowed by law to publish election projections until the last polling stations closed at 8:00 p.m. in the most recent presidential election, it was foreseeable that some of the inquisitive people would look for information on francophone news sites in Switzerland or Belgium. Thus, May 6 became one of the busiest days ever registered in Switzerland. This can be seen in the Net-Metrix audit of May.

The phenomenon was already known from the last presidential election in 2007 - but it was unclear to what extent the French media and citizens would adhere to this seemingly antiquated regulation in the age of globalized social media communication. Net-Metrix - in addition to publishing the traffic figures for May - took a closer look at the daily traffic of the six largest French news sites on May 6 and compared it to a normal Sunday:

netmetrix1_300x170

In total, Le Temps, 24heures.ch, Lematin.ch, Tribune de Genève, Rts.ch and 20min.ch - Romandie show a significantly higher number of visits as early as 10 am. The analysis of the geolocation shows that the vast majority of devices access the site from France. Over the course of the day, the visit volume increases exponentially, finally reaching its absolute peak at 6:00 p.m. with over 1 million visits per hour.

This volume corresponds to more than 17 times the number of visits on a normal Sunday between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m., according to the study. Over the entire day, the six news sites recorded more than 4 million visits, i.e. around 5 times the amount of a quiet Saturday. As early as 19:00, when everyone knew what was officially still secret in France, the onslaught subsided considerably, only to die out completely at 20:00, when the French media were allowed to do their job again. What remained were a few alleged charges from the French side against Swiss and Belgian media houses, as well as hot-running but still functioning measurement boxes at Net-Metrix.

In the monthly figures for the individual sites published on June 8, the peak of May 6, 2012 was much less impressive, but was still clearly recognizable on one or two French news sites: Net-metrix.ch/products/net-metrix-audit/publication

Volvo Art Session for the second time at HB Zurich

From Thursday, June 7 to Monday, June 11, 2012, Volvo Switzerland transformed Zurich main station into an open street art studio for the second time. Seven Chinese artists painted, sprayed and redesigned the new Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid again and again.

In this art event, they were to reflect their interpretation of the sustainable mobility of tomorrow - and at the same time provide an exciting insight into the contemporary Chinese art scene. The opening event on Thursday evening, June 7, in the form of a live art performance with dance and Chinese street art marked the official start of the second edition of the "Volvo Art Session". Volvo brand ambassador Melanie Winiger was part of the performance.

The new Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid was at the center of the public art campaign and became the three-dimensional canvas for the creative vision of the seven Chinese artists. An additional challenge for the artists was the given time frame for each design: they each had just half a day to realize their concepts.

Every day, photographer Francesco Carrozzini staged the event and the artists. Carrozzini not only documented the individual work steps, but also portrayed the Chinese street artists. Selected works were documented in a photo book and exhibited as part of an art exhibition in the fall of 2012. The artistic transformation of the three-dimensional "V60 Plug-in Hybrid Canvas" was also captured by a high-end photo camera, which took a picture of the vehicle and background every 10 seconds. The Volvo Art Session thus also became a flowing, cinematic document. The entire art event was also broadcast live via webcam on Volvoartsession.com transferred.

The Volvo Art Session is an art project by Volvo Automobile (Switzerland), which was intended to emphasize the company's artistic commitment, design expertise and innovative spirit. The event at Zurich Main Station was realized in collaboration with the production company EQAL Visual Productions from Zurich.

Last but not least, "Where are the cows around here?"

On Monday, Michael Mittermeier paid a surprise visit to the Swiss beverage manufacturer Rivella. But he couldn't find the Rivella cows.

At the moment, the TV commercials with the well-known comedian are being broadcast again in Germany. Michael Mittermeier therefore decided to drop by Rivella in Rothrist. In the modern production facility, he was able to watch the filling and delivery of the bottles for the German market. "I always thought there were a few hundred cows standing around somewhere with the ready-made Rivella coming out of their udders," the comedian quipped as he stood in front of one of the bottling lines. Let's just hope that the comedian doesn't also become an Emmentaler brand ambassador. Otherwise, he'll be looking for the holes in the cows on his next visit.
