By the Way signs ex-hockey pro Alex Chatelain

Alex Chatelain, a member of the Swiss junior national team and a professional player who has played for HC Davos, SC Bern, EHC Basel, and, most recently, SC Langenthal, among others, is joining the By the Way Communications team effective immediately.

During and alongside his active professional career, the 34-year-old Alex Chatelain prepared himself specifically for "life afterwards", according to a press release: while still in Davos, he graduated from the Swiss Alpine Secondary School, and during his time in Basel he attended lectures at the university. From 1999 to 2009, he completed a Bachelor's degree at the University of Bern, followed by a Master of Science in Business Administration. At SC Langenthal, he was then able to put his business management skills to use for the first time and actively contribute to the management of the junior organization.

Richard Hurni, founder and partner of the agency, which has strong roots in the sports sector, is delighted to have an employee with connections in the world of sport at his side: "Of course, Chatelain will be able to develop his greatest added value in project work and management for our clients Swiss Ice Hockey Association and EHC Biel. But we will also be able to benefit from his experience from an active sports career in our other sports mandates, such as the Swiss Football Association or in the various golf projects."

Neo-communications professional Chatelain is looking forward to his new role: "For me, it is extremely satisfying to be able to contribute my knowledge from my studies and my initial management experience from Langenthal, as well as my assets from my professional career and my broad network of contacts in business management. Due to the agency's great affinity for sport, I am extremely confident that I will be able to enter the "afterlife" at by the way communications with my usual level of return and success."

With the appointment of Chatelain, By the Way Communications is also able to prepare for an upcoming departure ahead of time and redistribute the workload: Senior Consultant Béatrice Wertli will be leaving the agency at the end of the year to take over the General Secretariat of the CVP Switzerland.

Magical anniversary celebrations

The monthly newspaper *Dieperspektive* is celebrating its second anniversary. The celebration took place on Friday evening at Zurich’s Cabaret Voltaire and featured readings, the selection of the best article of the year, and a magic show.

Shortly after half past eight, "It's a man's world" by James Brown got the audience in the Dada House in the mood for the evening. The five authors who were about to read out their texts nominated for the "best article of the year" were, after all, all men. Simon Jacoby, advertising manager and editor of Dieperspektive, took this as an opportunity to ask the women in the audience to submit articles for the user-generated content magazine.

The authors then presented their texts, with some visibly enjoying their stage presence more than others. The philosophy student, who had "read a bit too many philosophical texts", sweetened his performance by sipping from the glass of beer standing next to him. Another used the platform to look for a publisher for the book he had already written.

In the end, the audience decided by ballot - or "urnanieren", as the organizers called it - which text should win. The guests were won over by Simon von Mörderthal's "self-synopsis", which played with a juxtaposition of the 15th and 30th year of life under the heading "Age and I". While the author revealed quite a lot about getting older (read here the text), he otherwise kept his identity a secret. What his ominous surname was all about - no comment. Presenter Conradin Zellweger, editor and communications manager at Dieperspektive, was only able to elicit this much from him: he lives in Basel.

The official program ended with a magic show. And anyone who was skeptical at the beginning as to whether the young audience would be enthusiastic about such a show was proved wrong. With a self-deprecating stage presentation, the magician was able to amaze the audience and make them laugh. (imp)

You can find all the nominated texts on Theperspective.ch.

About Dieperspektive
Dieperspektive is a monthly newspaper that works according to the principle "from the reader for the reader". Readers send in articles on a given topic and the editorial team prints the best ones. The magazine is published in a print run of 4,000 copies and is available at universities, schools and restaurants or is sent home for a fee. It is also distributed via Facebook.

Last but not least: Photoshop summiteers

Emil Frey Garage Zürich Nord published an advertorial in Friday's edition of the *Tages-Anzeiger*, pulling out all the stops with Photoshop.

The Photoshop efforts paid off for the car dealership: the publicity report in the Tages-Anzeiger newspaper caught the reader's eye and stuck there like a festering thorn. Perspectives and proportions play a subordinate role here: high up in the mountain landscape, an ibex about 30 meters tall sits enthroned and watches over the strangely floating Mitsubishi Outlander in the foreground like a patron saint:

pr_frey-ps

The Toyota logo had to make way for the Mitsubishi emblem and instead of the Chrysler lettering, a Ford zeppelin now floats in the pristine Alpine landscape. Only Kia was allowed to keep its place:

Let's hope that the ibex is not the one that was shot dead last week on Mount Pilatus in front of horrified tourists (Blick.ch reported). Then he would no longer be able to experience how he slowly became an advertising star. After all, he has already stood in front of the camera for well-known companies such as Carl Zeiss, Tourismus Bayern and Schmutz Opticien:

Last but not least: On the Garage Zurich North-Website visitors can expect more subjects from the same Photoshop series. Even if only the best picture made it into the newspaper - the others have nothing to hide from their prominent brother. (hae)

Dominik Kaiser: "SF often gets a beating unfairly".

In an interview with Der Sonntag, Dominik Kaiser, the head of 3+, defends Swiss television, which is financed by license fees.

Although 3+ boasts that its ratings are sometimes higher than those of its powerful competitor from Leutschenbach (Werbewoche.ch reported), the head of the private broadcaster finds mild words for Swiss television in an interview in Der Sonntag. Asked by Der Sonntag about the ratings advantages with the young target group, Kaiser replies that public television does many things well and "often gets a beating unjustly". Swiss television is naturally exposed due to the large amount of money it receives through the Billag fees, but it always comes off unjustifiably badly.

As Kaiser explains in the interview, he used to work for SF2 himself and produced comedy programs for the youth magazine "Oops". Kaiser explains the passion with which he talks about the new season of the show "Jung, wild & sexy".

Weber Harbeke Partners: "Schnägg" gets rolling

Since August 23, fresh salads, soups, and sandwiches have been sold for five francs at mobile food stands in Zurich under the name «Schnägg.» The name, brand identity, packaging, and marketing were created by Weber Harbeke Partners.

Behind "Schnägg" are the companies Blattwerk Convenience Food and Kellermann.ch, one of the largest salad and vegetable producers in Switzerland, according to a statement. The third-generation family business produces the "Schnägg" products fresh every morning. From Ellikon an der Thur, the items are then transported in the company's own refrigerated sales truck to two locations in Zurich so far. According to the press release, this is the guarantee for freshness, which is emphasized in the claim "iss frisch".

Besides freshness, sustainability is the second big theme of "Schnägg": no meat is used in any of the products, most of the packaging is made of cardboard and the vehicles are powered and cooled by Kompogas.

The brand identity, from the name to the design and packaging, was created by Weber Harbeke Partners. Creative Director Thomas Harbeke justifies the name Schnägg with the fact that snails are also great salad experts and the word - like the whole concept - is cheeky and uncomplicated. The dialect expression is also intended to emphasize the Swiss origin of the brand and to point out that, apart from the drinks, everything costs only "en Schnägg".

In addition to the brand identity and the packaging, the order also includes posters, eBoards as well as the Facebook presence and the Schnägg.ch website, both of which were created in collaboration with the Feinheit agency.

Cable network operators criticize Teleclub

As reported by the NZZ am Sonntag, the cable network operators of Teleclub and Swisscom feel they are being discriminated against. The latest reason: HD broadcasting.

Teleclub has recently started offering subscribers television in HD quality. However, only customers who watch TV via Swisscom or Sunrise can benefit from the new offer, as the NZZ am Sonntag reports in its current issue. Swisscom has a stake in Teleclub.
The industry association of cable network operators Swisscable accuses Teleclub of uncooperative behavior in talks and negotiations. Nicolas Perrenoud, head of the cable network Quickline, comes to the same conclusion in an interview with NZZ am Sonntag: "The will for a mutual partnership is simply not there."

However, the current HD debate is just one of many examples that show the poor relationship between Teleclub and the cable network operators, according to the article. Customers watching TV via cable would be forced to purchase a second set-top box, while Swisscom and Sunrise customers could access the offer via their existing box. Swisscom TV customers would also have price advantages with Teleclub offers and would be given preference in the selection of sports broadcasts.

Teleclub rejects the accusations. Teleclub boss Willy Heinzelmann told NZZ am Sonntag that the HD service had also been offered to cable network operators. Negotiations are underway, which is confirmed by Cablecom. Heinzelmann attributes the politics surrounding the set-top boxes and the different prices to technological reasons. However, Swisscable boss Claudia Bolla-Vincenz does not want to hear about the technology argument: "Technology is just being used as an excuse here.

According to NZZ am Sonntag, the Competition Commission (Weko) is aware of the problems surrounding HD broadcasting and intends to make a decision on the matter by the end of the year.

Ruf Lanz: Not kosher, but Hiltl

For Hiltl, the Ruf Lanz agency created a motif especially for the Jewish public. Motto: If not kosher, then at least Hiltl.

Freicom: Campaign created for Theater St. Gallen

Based on the core concept of «Escape from Everyday Life»—for which Freicom had already developed a campaign in the past—additional themes were created for the current season.

According to a statement from the agency, the aim of the campaign is to increase the appeal and thus the number of subscribers by highlighting the arguments of attractiveness, flexibility and low price.

What looks like a normal letterbox at first glance turns out to be an extraordinary theater stage. In other images, the symphony orchestra creates great emotions in a frying pan, in which music is played instead of being cooked as usual. Unforgettable emotions are created in a garage, and moving moments in an oven complete the campaign. The campaign is present through advertisements, posters, mailings and online.

Responsible at Theater St.Gallen: Werner Signer (Executive Director), Ann Katrin Cooper (Head of Communications). Responsible at Freicom: Christian Ruppanner (overall responsibility), Cornel Speich (consulting), Mark Herrera (art direction), Patrizia Fani (graphics), Stefan Rechsteiner (graphics), Claudia Etter (polygraphy), Daniel Ammann (photography).

SW Swiss Advertising on the SRG decision

SW Schweizer Werbung, the umbrella organization for commercial communication in Switzerland, has commented on the SRG's ban on online advertising and is taking a diplomatic stance.

In the press release, SW Schweizer Werbung writes that the umbrella organization acknowledges that the discussion about SRG's online advertising remains open following today's Solomonic decision by the Federal Council. In the interests of commercial communication in Switzerland, however, the association supports all efforts to create the most liberal possible framework conditions - including for online advertising.

The umbrella organization for commercial communication generally welcomes all measures that optimize advertising opportunities in Switzerland, the press release continues. In this sense, SW Schweizer Werbung agrees with the Federal Council that the SRG must also be commercially active on the Internet in the medium term due to cross-border competition. In return, however, SW recognizes the vital interest of publishers in being able to fight on a level playing field in this still not very open market.

In the view of SW Schweizer Werbung, today's decision by the Federal Council is only an interim step towards a comprehensive solution. The discussion must continue. With this in mind, the umbrella organization also welcomes the planned extra-parliamentary media commission.
