The portfolio streamlining as part of the reorganization of the entertainment division at Ringier will take place at the end of September. Yahoo chief Mayer brings in Ken Goldman as new finance chief

Marissa Mayer, who has been Yahoo's CEO since July, has filled a key position on her executive team. She brought in Ken Goldman as the new chief financial officer. He previously worked at the software company Siebel, among other places.

Former Google manager Mayer must ensure that Yahoo's business gets back on track. The Internet pioneer has fallen behind Google in the lucrative advertising business and is being squeezed by newcomers like Facebook. Goldman brings more than 25 years of experience as chief financial officer of various companies, Mayer praised the new hire. "We're excited about him joining Yahoo," she said. His first day on the job is Oct. 22, Yahoo announced Tuesday in Sunnyvale, California.

So far, Tim Morse is in the post. He has been with Yahoo since June 2009 and will leave later this fall. Where he's going is unknown. "I think I can speak for everyone in wishing him the best," Mayer said. The Yahoo chief is expecting her first child in the fall. By then, her executive team will have to be in place, even if Mayer doesn't really want to take any time off. Only in August, she had won Kathy Savitt from the fashion startup Lockerz as her new head of marketing. (sda)

Net-Metrix: More Internet Users on the Web with Smartphones than Laptops

The Net-Metrix Mobile Report 2012-2 confirms the continuing trend toward Internet use via mobile devices. More than 55 percent of Swiss Internet users—or about 3 million people—access the Web using smartphones and other mobile devices. Already, 15 percent do so using tablets.

This means that the group of tablet users has grown by 90% in just six months and now comprises around 780,000 Swiss people. The trend comparison of the Mobile Report reveals impressive growth rates: the group of SSD users has increased significantly by around 20% since the last survey six months ago and currently accounts for 55% of Swiss Internet users or 2.93 million people. This means that this group has almost doubled since the first survey two years ago.

The Net-Metrix report also clearly shows the dynamics of SSD heavy users, i.e. those people who use smartphones & co. on the web every day or almost every day: at 36.1 percent of online users or around 1.9 million people, this group has almost tripled since 2010. In other words: More and more Swiss people can also be found using small screen devices on the web and they are doing so with increasing frequency.

Mobile devices that can be used to access websites naturally also include laptops, notebooks and netbooks. In previous surveys, the share for this category was clearly ahead of all other types of mobile surfing devices at around 50% in each case. The current 2012-2 edition shows a slight shift for the first time: With a share of 52.7%, the category of internet-enabled cell phones and smartphones as a surfing device is in first place. In terms of all online users, the decline for the laptops & co. category since 2010 is therefore around 2%, for SSD users it is 7% and for SSD heavy users it is 10%.

Growth leap in the tablet user group

Tablet users, i.e. people who use tablets and eBook readers to consume internet content, have seen a real leap. While their share of online users was a modest 1.1% two years ago, this group now accounts for 14.7% of online users and reaches 780,000 Swiss citizens. This significant growth is likely to be due to Christmas sales in 2011 and the availability of new generations of devices, such as the iPad, in the first half of 2012.

Women catch up

In the first survey in summer 2010, the gender ratio of SSD users was clear: the proportion of women was just 30%. After just two years, this picture has changed significantly: Women are catching up more and more and currently already represent 43% of this user group. This trend is likely to be similar for tablet users, albeit with a slight time lag: While the proportion of women was 31.8% in 2011, this currently stands at 37.3%, which corresponds to an increase of 17% in just one year.

The Net-Metrix Mobile Report records the development of Internet usage across different types of mobile devices: Small Screen Devices (SSD) include Internet-enabled cell phones and smartphones as well as MP3 players or devices with a comparable screen size, such as iPods, PDAs and personal organizers, which enable the use of Internet content. On the other hand, tablet users include people who surf the net with tablets or eBook readers. The focus of the Mobile Report is therefore not on device ownership or general device use, but on Internet use.

Neutral Zurich designs the appearance of Valser

Neutral Zurich designed the new Valser campaign - in TV and print. This was launched by Valser Mineralquellen after a break in communication.

The campaign was implemented in three phases. In the first phase, the community of Vals was involved through a community vote on the jingle. In collaboration with Christian Zehnder, the singer and composer, three non-verbal "Juz jingles" were created on the theme of "New Alpine Music", which are intended to emotionally evoke the longing for meaning and belonging, discovering one's own center, serenity and strength.

In the second phase, TV and online banners called for people to upload their own Juz Urschrei to a microsite. The 6 strongest were selected from all the juzes, which were shown in a short TV spot from August 1 and called for public voting.

The third phase of the TV and advertising campaign was filmed and photographed in Vals. The language is in Grisons dialect and is intended to embody Swissness - relaxed, deep, emotional.

The Valser TV spot depicts a young man on his way to the office - once he arrives at the office, he takes a sip of Valser and comes to rest, listens to himself, his imagination begins to run wild: He finds himself in the Valser mountain landscape by rock and water. The climax is his life-refreshing Juz, which brings him back from the magical moment to everyday life. Refreshed and deeply connected, a smile plays around his eyes.

The print campaign was realized with the Swiss photographer Lukas Wassmann. He works regularly for international trend and style magazines. His work is exhibited in institutions and galleries.

Responsible at Valser Mineralquellen, Vals: Colin Forrest (CEO), Nisa Sanz (Business Development Manager), Philipp Häseli (Senior Brand Manager). Responsible at Neutral Zurich: Rudolph Schürmann (Creative Director), Peter von Ah, Ricco Pachera (Creation), Michelle Nicol, Dino Ceccato, Corinne Wiederkehr (Strategy/Consulting), Kaufmann Gehring / Ultra Images (Production), Marc Comes (Direction / CHBP), Christian Zehnder / Peter Philipp Weiss (Music Corporate Sound), NJP (Sound), Lukas Wassmann (Photography).

Last but not least: Youtube's freedom of expression takes a vacation in Brazil

A court in Brazil has ordered the arrest of the country's highest-ranking Google executive. The reason was a dispute over a video on the YouTube platform.

In a video, a candidate for the mayoral election in the city of Campo Grande is denigrated in two videos on YouTube. The Google subsidiary YouTube did not remove the video. This was stated by the court on Tuesday, according to SDA. This violates Brazilian law. As Google is not responsible for the content of the video platform, the company has lodged an appeal. The appeal was rejected.

However, this is not the first time that Google has been cited in court for insulting YouTube. Ten days ago, an electoral court in the north-eastern state of Paraiba handed down a similar verdict against Google director Edmundo Balthazar, according to SDA. He had refused to block a video in which a mayoral candidate was referred to as a "donkey". Google appealed and was upheld.

According to the SDA, the first round of local elections will take place in more than 5,000 Brazilian cities on October 7. Until then, the candidates should probably tell themselves: "Freedom of expression is when you laugh anyway". Because "hasta la vista, Google" has apparently not had much effect on the company so far - not even in Portuguese.

At the center of the campaign, however, is the Landing pageAccording to the press release, those interested in a used car can register for the test even more easily and are informed about the TCS centers in their area. Users can also use a car to track which points are checked during the "used car test".

The Maxomedia campaign is also intended to show that TCS membership is worthwhile. After all, non-members pay twice as much for the test.
