AZ Medien also suffers a loss in 2018

The Aargau media company AZ Medien posted a loss of 2.2 million Swiss francs in 2018. Sales increased by 12 percent to 244 million Swiss francs.

AZ_Mediencenter_AZ_Medien_A.Spichale

As a result of the merger of AZ Medien with NZZ Regionalmedien as of October 1 to form CH Media, the company's results are strongly influenced by provisions and one-off costs, AZ Medien announced on Thursday.

The financial year is made up of the first three quarters of AZ Medien and 50 percent of the fourth quarter of CH Media. The Aargau-based media company had already posted a loss of CHF 1.6 million in the previous year.

Declining print markets and high investments in the diversification of the portfolio and the transformation of existing businesses would have contributed significantly to the negative operating result. Provisions for the forthcoming restructuring at CH Media also depressed the result.

The company cites the integration of the radio stations Radio 24 and Radio Argovia, the consolidation of the private TV station S1, and the integration of the news portal Watson into AZ Medien as reasons for the higher revenues.

The national TV business, newspaper printing and digital business also made positive contributions to sales. The equity ratio fell from 49 to 38 percent. At the end of September, AZ Medien had 847 full-time employees. (SDA)

Imprint proposes dividend cut at Tamedia shareholders' meeting

In contrast to Tamedia's board of directors, Impressum is proposing to shareholders a dividend that is four million francs lower. The four million are to be invested in journalism and improved employee benefits.

Tamedia-Gebaeude

Tamedia's Board of Directors will propose a dividend of CHF 47.7 million at the shareholders' meeting on April 5, 2019. In contrast, the professional association Imprint will propose a four million lower dividend of CHF 43.7 million to the shareholders. The four million would roughly correspond to the amount that Tamedia, as the largest shareholder (30 percent), took from the reserves of the former SDA when it was merged with Keystone in 2018, Imprint wrote in a statement on Thursday. It is of the opinion that these funds, which were earned over decades by the employees of the former SDA, should flow back into journalism, it continues.

In addition to reinvestment in journalism, Imprint is also demanding that the amount be allocated to the social plans currently being drawn up by Tamedia. These should - for example in the case of Le Matin or  Annabelle - "to a level worthy of the prospering Tamedia company," the association demands. (hae)

The #morethanhockey sponsorship series launched by Y&R Wunderman and PostFinance has been expanded to include three new sponsorship short films, following last year's successful social media campaign. This time, the spotlight is on the promotion of young talent.

The short films illustrate that the passion for ice hockey can be lived in different ways: A junior coach who has put his heart and soul into it for years. A young talent who pursues his dream with iron discipline and a group of parents who fill the stomachs of the fans and the youngsters' coffers with their cooking skills.

Sandro Tschuor, Group Account Director at Y&R Wunderman and former professional ice hockey player: "With this campaign, we succeeded in capturing the passion away from the limelight and giving athletes, relatives as well as fans a different perspective around the promotion of young talent. Only when everyone pulls together and works as a team can dreams be realized and goals achieved. Field hockey is just #morethanhockey."

This team approach is reflected in the campaign's approach. Thanks to the co-creation philosophy of Y&R Wunderman, experts from different fields - from strategy to creation to athletes - came together to achieve the optimum.
