PME Magazine with new layout

PME Magazine, the French-speaking Swiss business magazine published by Axel Springer Switzerland, debuts a revamped layout in its February 2013 issue (02/13). The new design was developed in close collaboration with Wernie Baumeler, art director of *Bilanz*.

According to a press release issued by Axel Springer on Wednesday, the new look will be more elegant and modern. In future, PME Magazine will have a clearer visual language, a clearer layout and a more generous design overall. The improved reading experience will be supported by higher-quality paper, graphic elements, structuring lines and new fonts.

The sections of the French-speaking Swiss business magazine have also been slightly adapted. They are now called Actualités, Entreprises, Management, Finances and Loisirs.

SW: Diploma presentation on the "high seas"

At the end of January, the newly certified communications managers celebrated the successful completion of their exams aboard the Herzbaracke at Zurich’s Bellevue. This certification is comparable to a «Professional Master’s» degree.

The president of the examination board, Urs Schneider from Mediaschneider, gave a speech right at the beginning to remind the newly graduates of their responsibility for honest and creative communication and the associated challenges that they would now face. Schweizer Werbung SW wrote this in a press release on Wednesday. Together with examination director Heinz Egli, he then presented all the successful graduates with their well-deserved federal diplomas and a diploma supplement written in English.

The newly graduated communication managers are confirmed that their degree is equivalent to a "Professional Master". In addition to generous gifts for the best graduates from Touring-Zeitung, Publisuisse, Faber-Castell, APG, Renteria and Sawi, they also received membership of SW Schweizer Werbung for one year, including a free subscription to the trade journal Marketing + Kommunikation.

Communication Summit 2013: explosive page turns

From journalism to PR and back again. This path, chosen by many media professionals, presents both opportunities and risks. At the 2013 Communication Summit hosted by ZPRG and ZPV, these career changers were the focus of presentations and a discussion.

Security, good pay and opportunities for advancement: In uncertain times, this is what media professionals are looking for and finding in the staff departments of companies and offices, at non-profit organizations and associations, as well as in PR and communications agencies, as ZPRG writes in a press release on Presseportal.ch. Their know-how of the mechanisms of the hectic media business is in demand. Hundreds of journalists have followed the lure and switched sides in recent years. A few later went the other way again.

This year's Communications Summit was designed to provide insights into the world of page changers. Around 350 guests attended the event, jointly organized by the Zurich Press Association ZPV and the Zurich Public Relations Society ZPRG, at the ETH Zurich Audimax. Journalists, consultants and communications managers reported on and discussed the hurdles of changing sides, and about craftsmanship, ethics and wages, diverging expectations of companies and editorial offices, and the tension between PR and journalism in times of media change. As in the panel itself, the audience was far more dominated by PR representatives.

The keynote address was given by Peter Hartmeier, a man of many guises. Until last summer, he was Head of Corporate Communications at UBS Switzerland, and before that he was Editor-in-Chief of the Tages-Anzeiger and Director of the Swiss Press Association, among other positions. Hartmeier now works as an independent consultant. He was joined in the discussion by Reto Lipp, presenter of the business program "Eco" on SRF: Elisabeth Meyerhans, former Secretary General of the FDEA and ex-NZZ editor, now an independent communications and business consultant; Susanne Mühlemann, a business journalist of many years' standing, including with Sonntagsblick and Bilanz, now Head of Media Relations at Swiss International Air Lines; and Christof Moser, editor of Der Sonntag and freelance journalist, sharp-tongued columnist on media topics.

The next Communication Summit will take place in early February 2014.

KSP promotes economical VW models

The new Polo Blue GT is equipped with an engine that reduces gas mileage. To mark the launch of this vehicle, KSP has therefore developed a sporty yet fuel-efficient motif: a Scotsman on an exercise bike.

When power requirements are low, the Polo Blue GT's engine automatically shuts down two cylinders, significantly reducing fuel consumption, according to a statement from the agency. KSP has developed a very simple and striking implementation for this fuel-saving technology. The motifs show athletic animals that have switched off their power and therefore walk only on their front legs. The new motifs "Horse" and "Leopard" of the technology carrier Golf 1.4 TSI ACT can be seen as ads and posters.

China continues to hack media sites according to Murdoch

Hacker attacks on media websites continue unabated. In addition to the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and other media outlets were also affected by the hacker attacks.

"The Chinese are still hacking us, or did over the weekend," media mogul Rupert Murdoch wrote on his Twitter profile on Wednesday. Murdoch is the owner of the News Corp. media group, which also owns the Wall Street Journal. The newspaper announced last week that it had been the target of hacker attacks for several years (Werbewoche.ch reported). The origin of the attacks is believed to be in China.

The New York Times and other media outlets were also affected by the hacker attacks after they reported on the financial circumstances of the families of the Chinese state leadership. Officials in Beijing have always denied the allegations.

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt also sharply attacks China in his new book. China is the most powerful and dangerous superpower in the digital war, warns the current CEO of the internet giant in the book, from which the Wall Street Journal quoted last week. In contrast to the West, Chinese authorities and companies are unrestrainedly prepared to gain advantages through attacks and espionage from the Internet. (SDA)

50 years of Televisiun Rumantscha - 50 stories

Romansh television, Televisiun Rumantscha, is celebrating its 50th anniversary. For RTR, the Romansh radio and television broadcaster, this is reason enough to share 50 stories in honor of the anniversary.

The first Televisiun Rumantscha broadcast flickered across Swiss television screens on February 17, 1963. The program was called "Balcun tort" (The Oriel). The images were dull and the content one-sided, according to the Rhaeto-Romanic newspapers at the time.

According to RTR, only a few fragments of the first "Balcun tort" broadcasts still exist. The first presentations can no longer be found in the archives. However, presenter Luisa Famos is still present in viewers' memories. The program "Cuntrasts" on February 17 brings back memories.

In a series, the program "Telesquard" goes in search of presenters from the last 50 years. The most biting program was "Muschkito". Because the satirical program was provocative, it had to "give way due to external pressure", according to RTR. Highlights from this program are also shown. (SDA)

Stailamedia: 20 Minuten and Newsnet join the Swiss Video Network

Stailamedia is now partnering with 20 Minuten and Newsnet in the area of online video advertising. In-stream video ad slots on 20 Minuten Online and the Newsnet portals can now also be booked through Stailamedia’s Swiss Video Network.

The cooperation gives the Swiss Video Network a reach that guarantees advertisers nationwide coverage with online video advertising, Stailamedia said in a press release on Tuesday. With the recent addition of the Tamedia titles, more than 60 - mainly Swiss - online portals are now connected to the Stailamedia network. Thanks to the self-contained network, the advertising industry now has the opportunity to address specific target groups directly within the Swiss Video Network by filtering them out of the overall reach using audience targeting.

"With the Tamedia titles we have acquired, we have seamless, nationwide coverage with in-stream advertising, whereby the commercials are predominantly placed as pre-rolls," comments Michael Baum, Managing Director of Stailamedia, on the portfolio.
