Previon: Workflow solution for hyperlocal journalism

With the Previon Story Sender app, reports and interviews can be recorded in text, images, audio and video and sent directly to the editorial team or their editorial system.

The Story Sender user interface can be designed and personalized in the look of the respective title, according to a press release. Previon will be showcasing the system at Media Expo 2013, which takes place on April 15 and 16 in Mainz. The app is initially available for iPhone and iPad.

Story Sender solves logistical requirements of the hyperlocal approach

Hyperlocal journalism is fast and small-scale - the logistical requirements are correspondingly high. With Story Sender, journalists and authorized reader reporters can create texts as well as image, video and audio content directly or upload it from the local database. The finished article, including metadata such as category, title and body text, is then sent to the editorial team. The transfer of geo-information is planned for a future version.

Transfer directly to the editorial system possible

Story Sender can be integrated with various content management and editorial systems via programming interfaces (APIs) - the data is then transferred directly from Story Sender to the respective system. If Story Sender is used in conjunction with Macentur from Previon, a wide range of additional content management options are available. Macentur, which is already established at over 50 newspapers in Switzerland alone, allows CvDs, department heads and editors-in-chief to distribute incoming reports from various sources to several output channels. Story Sender can also cooperate with digital asset management solutions.

Last but not least: Television according to plan

In his spare time, Spanish interior designer Iñaki Aliste draws detailed floor plans of apartments from famous TV series. Ted Mosby's apartment, the Simpsons' house, Sheldon and Leonard's apartment... they're all there.

Aliste seems to have a good eye, impressive powers of observation and a lot of patience. And he seems to be a loyal fan of many series. Because his plans stand up to every test - even though the apartments do not exist in this complete form in reality, but consist of studio sets thrown together. As an interior designer, the illustrator does not leave it at the outlines, but furnishes the rooms according to "reality". Anyone familiar with the series will immediately feel at home in the plans. And when the rooms change over the course of the seasons (as seems to be the case with "Sex and the City"), he redraws them. (hae)

All plans in original size are here to see.

Two Zurich residents receive Berlin Tourism Award

Filmmaker Roland Koch from Flaach and screenwriter Flavien Allenspach from Elgg received the bronze Tourism Media Award for their film about the municipality of Gossau ZH.

Three pans, five zooms, seven long shots and four close-ups. And, of course, the obligatory interview with the mayor in front of the village map or his collection of pewter mugs. This is what you would imagine a typical film portrait of a Swiss municipality to look like.

With their film about Gossau - the livable community in the Zurich Oberland, Roland Koch from A.A. Kreativfactory in Flaach and Flavien Allenspach from Aebi Allenspach Kommunikation in Elgg have shown that community portraits can also be very different. The film convinced the jury of the Tourism Media Awards, as was reported in a press release. Despite strong competition from over 31 participating nations, the two filmmakers were awarded the Golden City Gate in bronze in the "Cities and Regions" category for their film on March 7, 2013 in Berlin. The international competition has been held annually since 2001 as part of the International Tourism Exchange ITB in Berlin.

Automobil Revue has liquidity problems

According to a report in *Der Sonntag*, the 106-year-old Swiss newspaper *Automobil Revue* is in crisis. The automotive industry and the editorial staff are unsettled. Publisher Hiltbrunner, however, does not see the newspaper’s survival as being in danger.

Europe's oldest automotive newspaper is struggling with a lack of solvency, which according to Der Sonntag is due to a lack of income from advertising sales. The newspaper quotes a concerned, "well-informed industry representative": "The newspaper is about to hit the wall". Concerned because Automobil Revue plays an important role for the entire Swiss automotive industry - not least as a political organ.

Key executives leave

A year ago, the publication was sold by Tamedia to the 35-year-old Basel publisher Dominique Hiltbrunner. The Automobil Revue continues to be printed by Tamedia - but only against payment in advance, as Der Sonntag insiders know. Freelancers often wait months for their remuneration. Editor-in-chief Olaf Kühlmann is leaving the paper at the end of April, managing director Rehné Herzig has already left and advertising manager Remo De Piano has resigned. The editorial management will be taken over by two former members of the editorial team until further notice, while the new managing director Robert Vego will be responsible for advertising.

Relocation to Bern and reduction in social benefits

Publisher Hiltbrunner does not want to confirm the crisis. Advertising revenues had suffered at Tamedia because this "pearl" had not been maintained within the large group. Since then, revenues have risen by 12 percent. As a small publisher, Tamedia can also react more quickly and is more flexible. For example, Automobil Revue is moving to Bern in the summer, saving costs equivalent to two years' wages. Hiltbrunner also wants to relaunch the online presence that Tamedia had "shut down" - even though no online editor has been hired yet. The Tamedia conditions for pension fund deductions can no longer be afforded. They were reduced in the last payroll. Hiltbrunner firmly rejects the rumors of another sale of Automobil Revue.

Publigroupe only just in the profit zone

Publigroupe has once again suffered heavy losses in its core business: The advertising business posted an operating loss of CHF 16.1 million in 2012. Overall, Publigroupe was able to keep its operating result just in the profit zone.

The Group's operating profit amounted to CHF 1.6 million last year, as Publigroupe announced on Friday. In 2011, the advertising marketer had reported an operating profit of CHF 21.9 million. Contrary to an announcement in December, the company was at least able to avoid falling into the red at an operating level.

In contrast, the net profit of CHF 50.2 million was significantly higher than the previous year's result, when the bottom line was a profit of CHF 27.2 million. However, the good result was only possible thanks to the sale of a significant portion of the real estate portfolio. Publigroupe's turnover fell by 13 percent to CHF 1.13 billion.

Problem child of the advertising business

The advertising marketer continues to be concerned about the development of the advertising business (media sales), which is affected by the decline in the print market. As in 2011, revenue from advertising sales fell by 13 percent to CHF 895.4 million. Despite drastic cost-cutting measures, the operating loss in the advertising business was significantly higher than in the previous year at CHF 16.1 million. In 2011, the advertising division, which includes the subsidiary Publicitas, posted an operating loss of CHF 5.1 million.

Publigroupe has been struggling with dwindling sales for some time now. In 2009, the company still had a turnover of 1.6 billion Swiss francs. Group CEO Arndt Groth, who has been at the helm of the Group since September, expects the print market to continue to decline sharply. The cost-cutting measures already introduced, which include job cuts, and a stronger focus on the digital sector should enable the advertising business to break even again. "Digital and mobile media are becoming increasingly important," Groth is quoted as saying in the press release. (SDA)

Cyberattack on SRF: blogs and forums offline

Swiss Radio and Television (SRF) has been the target of a cyberattack. As a result, SRF blogs and forums have been unavailable for over a week. IT specialists are now examining new security measures.

The unauthorized intrusion into SRF's computers was registered by IT specialists on Thursday last week, as Jonathan Engmann from SRF Corporate Communications told the news agency SDA on Friday. He confirmed a report by the media portal Kleinreport.ch. When monitoring server movements, an above-average number of accesses were suddenly detected within a short period of time. For stability and security reasons, SRF had deactivated around a dozen blogs and forums. Anomalies in access are observed time and again, "but never before to this extent", said Engmann.

Because the applications were shut down so quickly, it was possible to prevent an intrusion into the system. No data was destroyed or stolen. It is not known what the attackers were up to. The only thing that is clear is that the cyberattack was carried out from Chinese IP addresses. However, the perpetrator or perpetrators of the attack do not necessarily have to be based in China. Such an attack could be directed from anywhere in the world, said Engmann. It is still unclear how long blogs and forums will remain offline. "However, these are not the most frequently used applications," said Engmann. SRF's main offering, i.e. video and audio, is running smoothly. (SDA)

Republica: The girl and the cow

After winning the pitch, Republica is showcasing the Bern-based Bea trade fair for the first time. The stars of the 360° campaign are 11-year-old Bea and her best friend, Lea the cow.

For the 62nd edition of Bern's traditional spring fair, Bernexpo and the Republica agency have come up with something special to re-stage the combination of the modern and the tried and tested: The story of a little girl who marches across Bern with her best friend, a cow. On the way to the fair, Bea shows and explains the numerous sights to her cow. The story of "Bea & Lea in the big city" is told in a video that can be viewed on the Website in which Bea can be seen. Bea & Lea not only adorn a film poster, but can also be seen on advertisements, visitor flyers, autograph cards and much more in the Bern region.

Kampagnenteasing: Mystery surrounding runaway cow

But before the two could set off together on their journey through Bern, they first had to find each other again. Over the past few weeks, the girl had been looking for her runaway cow with a mysterious poster campaign. On one Facebook page it collected information about Lea's whereabouts. Local media picked up the story. Now Bea has found her fattest friend again. The story was solved by the publication of the video.

Responsible at Bernexpo: Sabine Graf (Head of Communications), Roger Fuchs (Project Management). Responsible at Republica: Mike Krüll (Creative Direction), Simon Muster (Senior Consulting), Kasper Kobel, Rea Christ (Art Direction), Anne Boxleitner (Text), Topfuel (Film Production) Joelle Lehmann (photography).
