Piazza.ch is discontinued

The Swiss media company Tamedia and the Norwegian Schibsted Media Group are collaborating in the online classifieds sector. As a result, Piazza.ch will be discontinued.

At the beginning of October 2013, the online marketplace Piazza.ch will be integrated into the larger classifieds platform Tutti.ch and subsequently discontinued, the two companies announced on Tuesday. With over four million visits per month, Tutti.ch is the strongest online classifieds platform in Switzerland, according to the joint announcement by Tamedia and Schibsted. The platform Piazza.ch had been founded by Tamedia in 2005. In 2010, the Norwegian media group Schibsted launched the marketplace Tutti.ch in Switzerland. The merger of Tutti.ch and Piazza.ch was already announced in July (Werbewoche.ch reported). (SDA/hae)

Last but not least: Snake instead of fingerprint

Exactly what is supposed to be affordable about the iPhone 5C is Apple's best-kept secret. Make way for the real budget iPhone.

The 5C model was announced as an affordable alternative to the sinfully expensive flagship 5S. The Volks-iPhone does not have a fingerprint scanner (perhaps for the best), but it does have colorful plastic covers. Of course, no aluminum casing can be expected in the budget segment.

As we all know, there was great surprise when Apple announced the prices for the two models: The supposedly cheap iPhone turned out to be a questionable alternative at almost 700 francs. As the price difference to the iPhone 5S is only around 100 dollars, most buyers are likely to go straight for the more expensive model.

As Apple announced on Monday, the tactic seems to be working once again. "This is our best iPhone sales launch ever - more than nine million iPhones - a new record for first weekend sales," said Tim Cook, CEO of Apple. "Demand for the new iPhones is incredible, and while we've sold out our initial shipment of iPhone 5S, stores continue to receive new iPhones on a regular basis." Reassuring. Also reassuring: in the meantime, the true discount iPhone has emerged. It goes by the name iPhone 5F and is announced by the website Funnyordie.com in true Apple fashion. The good news: instead of a fingerprint, there's Snake! (hae)

Deep Impact: Booking engine developed

When it comes to direct bookings, hotels are facing a difficult situation online. Deep Impact is stepping in to help them with its own booking engine.

Today's GDS systems, such as Booking.com or Hotels.com, are so strongly positioned in the market that they can dictate the commission rates for hotels, according to a press release. The commissions paid quickly amount to six-figure sums. Deep Impact has developed a completely independent booking engine that allows rooms, packages, individual services and vouchers to be sold directly on the hotel website so that the business can be handled directly via the hotel's own website. Pricing, allotments and different price scales can be entered completely via an online administration interface.

However, the focus is not only on creating a simple and intuitive administration interface, but also on an attractive front end. Today's requirements for a booking engine have changed completely in the last five years. Mobile and tablet are a must. Accordingly, the front end supports booking via all end devices. The aim of the front end is to achieve the highest possible conversion rate.

The first project to be implemented with the new booking engine is the 4-star Superior Park Hotel in Winterthur. Thanks to the integration, the Park Hotel expects to receive significantly more direct bookings and thus indirectly save on commissions. Kartause Ittingen's next project will be to integrate the new booking engine.

Obituary Robert C. Baier

An obituary on the death of media agency pioneer Robert C. Baier.

As I and many others only found out last week, Robert C. Baier, the pioneer of the Swiss media agency scene, passed away some time ago. Robert Baier founded Switzerland's first media agency in the 1970s. At a time when almost nobody here believed in the media agency system already established abroad.

Media strategy, media planning and media buying - that was his world. Media research was his hobbyhorse. His word counted for something in the industry. He was very active in training. He passed on his extensive know-how to countless advertising assistants. At SAWI and other training centers. In 1998, Robert Baier was elected part-time managing director of the Interessen-Gemeinschaft Media-Agenturen (IGMA). He was one of the founding members of the IGMA in 1988.

Robert Baier was always vehemently committed to the media industry. A lack of basic knowledge and inaccurate work was anathema to him. He was uncomfortable, but never unfair. But he also had a zest for life and was a dear colleague and friend all those years - even as a competitor. Röbi, I will miss you and your apt remarks.

Prime promotes young computer scientists

Switzerland urgently needs new talent for careers in information and communication technology (ICT). The It-dreamjobs.ch campaign, created by Prime, is designed to address this need.

According to the press release, the campaign was launched on Monday by a broad coalition of representatives from business, science and the public sector. The aim is to attract more young people to study computer science.

The ICT industry is the fifth largest economic sector in Switzerland. But there is a shortage of well-trained specialists: There will be a shortage of up to 25,000 in 2020. The campaign is initially being launched in the greater Zurich and Bern areas with posters, electronic advertising and hanging boxes on public transport. Detailed information on the variety of IT professions and training paths can be found on the campaign website It-dreamjobs.ch.

Computer scientists from the five gold sponsors Migros, Swiss Post, UBS, the City of Zurich and Ergon Informatik stood in front of the camera for the poster campaign. The wide-ranging support from the Swiss business and education community is reflected in the fact that a total of around 30 companies and organizations are involved in it-dreamjobs.ch.

"Together with the campaign's main target group, high school students, we looked for a suitable agency to break new ground in promoting young talent. With the idea of IT dream jobs and the very authentic approach to communication, Prime hit the nail on the head and designed and implemented a campaign precisely tailored to the target group," says Annette Kielholz, project manager of it- dreamjobs.ch.

Responsible at It-dreamjobs.ch: Annette Kielholz (Project Manager). Responsible at Prime: Basil Hangarter (Creative Direction), Sylvie Saxer/Jan-Jesse Müller (Consulting), Marcello Koch/Sven Christinger (Art Direction), Erwin Lötscher (DTP).

Press Council Reminds of Rules of Professional Ethics

Following the case of the murdered Geneva social therapist, the Press Council reminds journalists of their professional ethics rules. The protection of privacy was violated in the process.

The murder of the Geneva social therapist and her dramatic circumstances had understandably triggered a great response from the population and the media, the press council said in a statement on Monday. However, the public had received the impression of inconsistent media coverage: The Press Council therefore recalls the rules for reporting on such events. They concern the protection of the privacy of the victim and his relatives, but also of the alleged murderer.

In the first phase, when the two people were reported missing, the media logically published their pictures to support the investigation. However, as soon as the victim was discovered and the alleged perpetrator arrested, the usual rules of professional ethics applied again. Without the consent of the persons concerned, the media were therefore required from that point on to refrain from identifying them by name and picture.

Finally, the Swiss Press Council points out that, according to its Guidelines should show particular restraint toward persons "who are in distress or who are in shock from an event, as well as those who are grieving."

Customer growth and pitch wins

Several agencies have celebrated new clients and successful pitches in recent days. Among them this time: Hinderling Volkart, Ottiger & Partner, Glaswerk, and Supertext.

Hinderling Volkart: Sennheiser pitch won

hinderling-volkart

The Zurich-based full-service agency, which was launched in January with a new lineup, was able to prevail in an international pitch and convince the Sennheiser executives with an integrated campaign for the launch of a new product line. Creative Director Livio Dainese: "Being able to work for a global company like Sennheiser is a big step for us as an agency. The fact that this is happening so early makes us particularly proud." The first measures of the campaign, which is managed from Copenhagen and focuses on Europe, Asia and the USA, will be seen in spring 2014.

Ottiger & Partner BSW supports Ruag Real Estate

ottiger-und-partner

Following an intensive evaluation process, the Lucerne-based agency Ottiger & Partner BSW has taken over the integral management of communications for Ruag Real Estate, Ruag's competence center for real estate management, which also operates internationally.

Glaswerk: Protektor's new lead agency

glaswerk

Protektor is one of the leading manufacturers of building profiles and a specialist in drywall systems in Europe. The construction group offers systems for modern building and focuses on quality in detail. On behalf of Protektor Switzerland, the Baden-based full-service agency Glaswerk developed and implemented the appropriate creative concept "in detail". High-quality design and consulting competence were convincing - since spring Glaswerk has been acting as the lead agency of the construction company and is in charge of the entire advertising budget in the Swiss market. For Protektor, Glaswerk builds on details in marketing consulting, image advertising as well as POS and trade marketing. United with the same values, Glaswerk is looking forward to this exciting task and the partnership cooperation, according to the statement.

Supertext: Crisp web texts for doubts

supertext-small

Texts and translations for package backs, TV commercials, company flyers, business letters or advertisements are already ordered by Swiss chips pioneer Zweifel from Supertext. Now the Zurich-based company has also invited the agency to collaborate on the development of its web texts, SEO included. In order to perfectly implement the tastes of the market leader, a copywriter evaluation was first carried out. Supertext selected three copywriters with online and food experience from its pool of over 400 copywriters, proofreaders and translators. Based on the sample texts they produced, style, tone and the definitive copywriter were determined. The entire order was sensibly divided into several stages and recorded in the order system developed in-house and mapped via a customer account.

Leo Burnett: New worldwide motifs for Victorinox

Over a year ago, Leo Burnett launched Victorinox’s first-ever global campaign—featuring thank-you letters from customers—in the brand’s history. The campaign is now continuing with new visuals.

According to the press release, these are true experiences, such as those of Luna Tao, whose pocket knife helped her win the shooting championship in Beijing. Or of Tomoo Igarashi, a Japanese businessman who came home during the great earthquake thanks to his Victorinox case. Leo Burnett Switzerland shows with new, gripping stories that the slogan "Companion for Life" not only stands for quality and functionality of the products, but also for a great emotional value. For example, Anita Kelloway from Maine could no longer hold back her tears when she found her Victorinox watch, which she had thought lost. It had been buried under the snow for a winter and still worked perfectly.

The focus of the communication is on the advertisements. Furthermore, the stories can be found at the POS and on the product labels.

Responsible at Victorinox: Veronika Elsener, Urs Keiser, Sandra Furer. Responsible at Leo Burnett Switzerland: Pablo Schencke, Anna Leudolph (creation), Johannes Raggio (ECD), Isabelle Meier, Nadine Stüssi (consulting), Suzana Kovacevic, Erasmo Palomba (art buying), Michael Nager (photography), Jochen Starz (image editing).

Wirz brings furniture sketches into real life

Wirz Werbung has launched a pension campaign for Die Mobiliar, showing the famous sketches in real life.

Everyone has their own ideas about the future. And no matter what they look like: The important thing is that they can be successfully implemented in real life. Based on this idea, Wirz Werbung has launched a new campaign for Mobiliar's pension products. It shows subjects in which future events are integrated in real life in the typical Mobiliar drawing style. Whether starting a family, owning a home or becoming self-employed - every life plan finds its place here. Summarized in a motto: Whatever the future holds, we have the right pension solution for you.

In order to make the rather demanding topic of pension provision accessible in a simple way, a pension check will be launched in the online area at the same time. On the microsite, you can check the security of your own future with proven Mobiliar humor. And with a little luck, you can win a pension start-up capital of 20,000 Swiss francs in the form of Mobifonds Select. The online presence is flanked by numerous banners.

The overall appearance started throughout Switzerland from 16.9.2013. The subjects can be seen on posters as well as in various publications, the online communication is available at Mobi.ch/provision-check experienceable.

Responsible at Mobiliar: Christoph Ott (Head of CI/CD and Advertising), Patrick Tharin (Responsible for Advertising Mobiliar Life & MobiJeunes). Ruf Lanz: Casablanca from an Autism Perspective

Ruf Lanz has created another radio spot for Autism Forum Switzerland that offers insight into the experiences of people with autism.

Autism is only really known to a few people in Switzerland. Accordingly, little understanding is often shown by the population to those affected and their environment. Autismus Forum Schweiz has therefore commissioned Ruf Lanz with a long-term awareness campaign for the various facets of autism. Ruf Lanz already drew attention to the topic in 2012 (Werbewoche.ch reported).

Now, using the well-known quote "Look into my eyes, little one" from the classic film Casablanca as an example, the agency demonstrates how differently people with autism perceive the world. And how easily they can get lost in details. The spot will run on Radio 1 starting next week.

Responsible at Autismus Forum Schweiz: Nicole Ulrich (President), Thomas Girsberger (Vice President), Thomas Ulrich, Edith Hörler, Nikola Bellofatto (Board Members). Responsible at Ruf Lanz: Markus Ruf, Danielle Lanz (Creative Direction), Isabelle Hauser, Maren Beck (Text), Sabrina Luck (Consulting). Production: Selmi-Tonstudio Zurich.
