20 Minuten has by far the most readers
The 20 Minuten media brand, which has a presence in all three parts of Switzerland, reaches by far the largest number of readers through its commuter newspaper and online offerings. More people already read Blick digitally than in print. This is shown by the WEMF Total Audience study.

20 Minuten on paper is read by 2 million people in one of the three languages German, French and Italian. The digital offerings, which are distributed via Internet portals and apps on mobile devices, account for 1.3 million readers.
Around half a million are dual users, i.e. people who use both the print edition of the commuter newspaper and the digital offering, as Wemf AG für Werbemedienforschung writes in its study of the total audience in the first half of 2016.
View shines digitally
The daily newspaper Blick, which is published exclusively in German, now has more readers online than in print. Already 714,000 people use Blick online, while 617,000 read the newspaper on paper.
On average, the Tages-Anzeiger has around twice as many readers of the paper edition as of the digital offerings. The newspaper is read by 474,000 people, while 242,000 people obtain information via the Tages-Anzeiger news portal. The NZZ is read by 263,000 people on paper and 158,000 people digitally.
Regionally little digital
An analysis of the figures on the reach of the media brands also shows that the classic regional newspapers are still lagging behind in the digital market. For example, the print edition of the Neue Luzerner Zeitung has 303,000 readers, compared to only 40,000 digitally. For the complete edition of the az Nordwestschweiz, the ratio is 373,000 to 68,000.
This discrepancy applies analogously to the complete edition of the St. Galler Tagblatt and to those of the Berner Zeitung and Bund. The digital readership of the Basler Zeitung is somewhat larger in relation to the print edition.
Sundays on the net
Sonntagsblick has a very high number of users of the digital edition with just under 1.3 million readers, with Blick Online providing the digital offering here. Just under 650,000 people read Sonntagsblick on paper. Just under 500,000 people read the NZZ am Sonntag digitally, compared with 413,000 readers of the print edition.
At first glance, the Sonntagszeitung falls behind with only 13,000 readers of the digital offering compared to 616,000 print readers. However, it should be noted here that in the case of Sonntagsblick and NZZ, the digital brands Blick Online and Nzz.ch are the deciding factors, which are already used digitally by the audience during the week.
It is also striking that the Coop Presse and Migros magazines are practically exclusively read on paper. With more than 3 million readers each for the printed edition, both publications have only just under 100,000 readers for the digital edition.
Western Switzerland has some catching up to do
In French-speaking Switzerland, 20 Minutes is the flagship. The print edition has 542,000 regular readers, while 271,000 people use the digital edition every day. The weekly edition of Le Matin follows at a great distance with 117,000 web users compared to 275,000 readers of the printed daily newspaper. 24 Heures lags even further behind with a ratio of 64,000 to 175,000.
