Last but not least: Emotional bullets

A Frenchman has turned billiard balls into emojis. Suddenly, the pool table has a human touch.

Jean-Baptiste Le Divelec - JB for short - is a French creative who recently joined an agency in Shanghai. When the latter acquired a pool table and placed it in the office space, JB came up with the idea of turning the balls into emojis. Together with some work colleagues, the set of balls were elaborately handcrafted into iOS emojis.

You can no longer play by the rules with the balls, but you can stage beautiful scenes. Because suddenly there's a lot of humanity on the table. Love, drama, jealousy, gloating - billiards has rarely been so emotional. All that's missing is a series production. (hae)

"10vor10": Daniela Lager gives up moderation

Daniela Lager has been hosting "10vor10" for 13 years, but also produces reports and features for the news magazine. At the end of the year, she will be moving completely behind the camera.

Unbenannt-3_7

If you include Daniela Lager's stations prior to her work for "10vor10," she has been a presenter for radio and television since 1985. Whether in the early days at Radio Munot and Radio Z or later at TeleZüri and the Swiss window of RTL/ProSieben as well as at Swiss television - she always lent her voice and face to the stations and programs.

Daniela Lager has now decided to shift her journalistic activities behind the camera. At the end of 2016, she will therefore relinquish her role as presenter of "10vor10" and work for the news magazine as an editor and reporter.

Daniela Lager: "After 13 years at "10vor10" and over a quarter of a century as a studio presenter, I'm looking forward to a change. I want to experience life, the country and politics more directly and I'm looking forward to more encounters with people who influence us - in small and large ways. I'm excited about the creative possibilities outside the studio, because not every "10vor10" takes the presenter as close to the action as, for example, the live broadcast on Brexit from London. It was nice, that's enough, now it's time for something new."

Daniela Lager's successor will be settled in the next few months.

UPC launches sports channel

The UPC channel Mysports will broadcast the games of the Swiss ice hockey leagues and the national team for five seasons starting in 2017.

Bildschirmfoto-2016-07-06-um-13.46.12

With the establishment of a new sports channel, there will be a fundamental change in the TV broadcasting of live sports in Switzerland. Mysports is the name of the new channel, which will be broadcast from the 2017/2018 season as a result of the award of media exploitation rights by the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation (SIHF) to UPC Switzerland. The channel will offer live sports entertainment with its own editorial teams from summer 2017. Thanks to a combined basic and premium model and partners for nationwide distribution, such as Quickline, Net+ or the city of Lausanne with Citycable and other communication networks, which together with UPC are members of the Suissedigital association, more than three million customers will thus have access to Swiss ice hockey. As a result of the rights award, UPC will become a license contract partner of the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation.

"We are delighted with UPC's commitment to our sport. On the one hand, we were convinced by UPC's distribution concept, and on the other hand by the planned implementation and coverage. Field hockey fans and Swiss ice hockey are the big winners of this new partnership," said Florian Kohler, CEO of the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation, in a statement.

Mysports combines basic and premium channels

"The channel will be seen in all regions of Switzerland and will be distributed in three languages. The mix of a basic channel, which is included in every offer, and several premium channels via additional subscriptions makes Mysports unique. The basic channel is part of every basic offer and can be received at no additional cost; this is very important to us," said Roger Feiner, Vice President Content Strategy at UPC. "We initially want to take ice hockey in Switzerland to the next level with Mysports; but in the future, we also see the channel as a platform for other sports that have not yet found their way onto television, or only with difficulty."

Mysports wants to score points with viewers with live ice hockey as well as with talks and researched background reports on athletes, tactics, technology or material. There will be novel game analyses and graphics as well as exciting camera angles and statistics. A new feature is that, in addition to all NLA matches and weekly NLB matches, matches of the Swiss men's and women's A national teams and even the U-20 national team will be offered live.

Mysports' basic channel will feature at least one live Swiss ice hockey league game a week, as well as analysis and studio discussions. With additional options or via on-demand, customers can get even more live entertainment in their living rooms in the form of subscriptions or individual downloads - receivable via TV, Internet and mobile.

Mysports will also be freely available to all UPC customers and its distribution partners via cell phone or tablet. At UPC, this will take place on the Internet via Horizon.tv and the Horizon Go app. Pricing for the additional options has not yet been determined, but "attractive retail prices in the market" are being targeted, according to the statement. "Our next steps now are to build up the channel and our own editorial teams in the three national languages, as well as planning the new studios in the language regions," Feiner said.

In view of the reallocation of rights, UPC has already concluded distribution agreements for Mysports with 14 members of the Suissedigital association and is thus taking a novel approach to the distribution of Mysports for Switzerland. This opens up a new and larger platform for Swiss sports than before. "After many years of dependency, we now have the opportunity in Switzerland to offer our customers our own sports program with Mysports. It's a chance to be active in the market ourselves and to help shape television around Swiss ice hockey," says a delighted Nicolas Perrenoud, CEO of the Quickline Group and board member of Suissedigital.

Roland Mägerle (Head of Business Unit Sport SRG SSR and Head of Department SRF Sport ), Jean-Thierry Augustin (President Sport Development and Olympics Commercialization, Discovery Networks International), Roger de Weck (Director General SRG)

The 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang and the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo will be available to Swiss audiences on SRG channels and platforms (online and apps) as well as on the various Eurosport channels and online platforms. Thanks to a variety of free TV, pay TV and digital offerings, viewers in Switzerland will be able to immerse themselves in the full depth of Olympic coverage.

SRG will receive exclusive sub-licenses from Discovery Communications for audiovisual rights (television and online) and non-exclusive radio rights (radio) for free-to-air comprehensive broadcasts of the 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang and the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in Switzerland in the four national languages German, French, Italian and Romansh. The sub-license also includes rights for news coverage in formats broadcast following the live events, as well as selected digital rights (on demand on the internet and apps). Roger de Weck, Director General of SRG, is satisfied: "I am delighted that, after Rio 2016, we will also be offering the 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang and 2020 in Tokyo to a high standard. Sport is beauty, emotion, it offers role models and a shared experience in all parts of the country. Sport plays a central role in the offering strategy of Switzerland's public media house."

In June 2015, Discovery and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that the company had secured the exclusive TV and multi-platform broadcasting rights for the Olympic Games 2018 to 2024 for 50 countries and territories in Europe.

Discovery has already concluded nine sub-licenses for the Olympic Games. There are partnerships with national broadcasters in Austria (ORF), Croatia (HRT), the Czech Republic (Ceska Televize), Finland (YLE), Hungary (MTVA), Ireland (RTE), the Netherlands (NOS) and the UK (BBC). All sub-licenses were individually adapted to the corresponding TV and radio markets in the individual countries.

Consumer protection files complaint with Weko against Apple Pay

Apple plans to launch its Apple Pay payment service in Switzerland soon. Because the iPhone manufacturer is excluding other payment solution providers, the Foundation for Consumer Protection (SKS) filed a complaint with the Competition Commission (Weko) on Tuesday.

Unbenannt-3_5

SKS managing director Sara Stalder confirmed a corresponding report by Blick to the sda news agency on Wednesday. In the complaint, the SKS calls on the Weko to take a closer look at the market of payment apps. The foundation calls for a level playing field for all providers. The technology must be open to all, it says. It hopes that the Weko does not cower before a market-dominating global corporation, Stalder said. Apple has so far denied other payment app providers like Twint access to the NFC interface. Only Apple Pay is allowed to communicate via Near Field Communication (NFC). Yet this would be the simplest and fastest technology. Holding the cell phone up to the payment terminal is sufficient, and there is no need to open an app or scan a code.

The Weko confirmed on Wednesday that it had received the complaint. The authority is aware of the problem, said Weko Secretariat Deputy Director Olivier Schaller in response to a question. The competition authorities will not initiate proceedings at this time, but will observe how the market develops. Whether Apple could one day be forced by the Weko to release the NFC interface cannot be said at this time, Schaller added. In the event of proceedings being opened, it would have to be examined firstly whether a dominant position existed and secondly whether abusive behavior was involved. If so, the competition authorities would have a number of options open to them to put an end to the behavior that is problematic under competition law, he said.

An end to the monopolization of the NFC interface was also recently called for by Urs Rüegsegger, head of the financial services provider SIX. The group is one of the owners of Twint, along with the five largest Swiss banks and retailers Coop and Migros. "It would also be interesting to hear what the competition authority says about this. We think Apple is obstructing competition here," Rüegsegger told sda last week. He said the proliferation of NFC in Switzerland since the introduction of contactless credit cards shows that ease of use meets a clear customer need. Because of competition from Apple, the two Swiss providers Twint and Paymit had merged at the end of May (Werbewoche.ch reported). The joint solution, which combines the advantages of both systems, will be called Twint. (SDA)

Adello turns smartphone into showroom

First: Adello is the first provider to display animated, interactive 360° panoramas entirely within mobile ads.

ageage_3

This enables marketers to immerse their consumers in virtual product worlds even during direct contact via smartphone motion sensors. From the interior of a car to a hotel destination to a home, many things can be depicted close to the product in the advertising material.

Unbenannt-4_170

What marketers have known for a long time, products can be presented comprehensively through 3D effects or virtual realities, arouse curiosity and generate trust in the product presented. For this reason, 360-degree images are becoming increasingly important in digital marketing. With the launch of the 360° Panorama Ad, the desired traffic can now for the first time be directed directly to the (virtual) product website or showroom via an animated mobile ad and without any detour via specific mobile apps or social media channels. The customer journey thus remains lean, innovative and performant.

Mobile devices predestined for innovative formats

The 360° Panorama Ad uses the motion sensor (gyroscope) of the mobile device to interact with the user and present the panorama image in every conceivable angle and view. This smart interaction allows the advertiser to show his product interactively already with the insertion of the ad in full-screen size or within a rectangle placement and thus to generate an emotional engagement. Since the user interactions of all ad units are automatically recorded by Adello and reported as standard, in the case of the 360° panorama ad the tipping rate can also provide valuable information as to whether the panorama image was actually actively viewed by the user and thus whether brand or product engagement has already taken place before the click.

Interactive advertising formats help campaign optimization

However, the new formats are not only innovative in terms of creative implementation. Due to their interactive design, they also function as data pipelines. Adello gathers valuable information about the specific response of an individual consumer from every user interaction with a mobile ad. By linking the ad format insights to Adello's real-time analytics platform AdCTRL, billions of ad requests per day can be analyzed and a wide range of data can be accessed. For each of these potential ad contacts, algorithms calculate this data in real time to make predictions about where the best conversion will occur. This results in a self-optimizing system that learns from every ad view, every interaction, every website visit, and every purchase.
