WOG honored with Facebook Award

As part of the Worldwebforum, awards were presented for the second time to the best and most popular Swiss Facebook pages. The winners were the pages for World of Games and Kägi.

The Worldwebforum held on Tuesday afternoon was a complete success, according to the press release. Around 500 forum participants came to Zurich to learn about social media in the corporate environment in workshops and keynote speeches from Facebook, Goolge, Twitter & Co. themselves. Organizer Fabian Hediger is highly satisfied: "The development of the forum within one year is remarkable. We are very pleased with the response to the forum and the great interest shown by the participants."

For a long time, social media was considered too abstract in corporate activities. Today, the opportunities it offers companies are undisputed. This year's worldwebforum focused on the most efficient ways of integrating social media channels into day-to-day business, the trends and developments that can be observed, and practical examples. Moderator Sandra Studer led through the afternoon with top speakers and industry experts. The fact that big names such as Facebook, Twitter, Atlassian or Google were personally present at the forum impressed the forum participants. With last year's conference, Fabian Hediger wanted to see whether there was any demand at all for his offer. Today - and with the many participants this year - this question will no longer arise in the near future, according to a statement.

1.) Kägi: 10,432 votes
2.) Johann Sebastian Bach Foundation: 10,205
3.) Appenzeller cheese: 10'137

After four weeks of voting, Kägi won the award for the most popular Facebook page in Switzerland. The popular traditional Swiss brand recently mobilized its community the most and decided the race in its favor. And this after several lead changes in the last 24 hours. While a total of around 7,000 people took part in last year's voting, Kägi, with 10,432 votes alone, achieved a considerably higher result than all of last year's voting.

Rickli fails with request for lower fees

During the debate in the National Council on the revision of the Radio and Television Act, a minority led by Zurich SVP National Council member Natalie Rickli failed in its call to lower radio and television fees to 360 francs.

Switzerland already has the highest fees in Europe, Rickli argued on Wednesday. She sees the reason in the fact that the public service is constantly being expanded. A maximum limit is needed here. Rickli also requested that the amount of the fee should be set by parliament and not by the Federal Council.

Both proposals found little support beyond the SVP. It does not make sense to fix a fixed amount in the law, said Viola Amherd (CVP/VS). If an adjustment became necessary, "the entire legislative machinery would have to be set in motion." Fears were also expressed that parliament might try to influence programming. "We don't want any politicization of SRG fees," said Regula Rytz (Greens/BE). "That would mean interference by parliament in the SRG's journalistic freedom."

Collect together with direct federal tax

Rickli was also unsuccessful with the request that radio and TV fees be collected together with the direct federal tax. "Everyone receives a tax bill. Enclosing an additional bill would be straightforward," she argued. This would be much more favorable than the variant proposed by the Federal Council. This envisages a private company collecting this levy from households. "The Federal Council's main concern is to put Billag under homeland security," Rickli said, referring to the current collection agency.

Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard said that at first glance she also found Rickli's proposal "impressive". However, the idea fails because of the concrete implementation. For the cantons, the change would involve considerable additional work. For example, they would first have to record all households, since the tax is levied per household and not per natural person.

The collection of fees together with the direct federal tax would lead to an "administrative monster" and an "irresponsible effort," Amherd also criticized. "If 26 cantons collect a levy, it will certainly be more expensive than with a single body," said commission spokesman Martin Candinas (CVP/GR). (SDA)

Spinas: Looked closely at the jeans butt

Spina's Civil Voices continues the "See and Act" campaign of Bread for All and Swiss Catholic Lenten Fund, drawing attention to the problem of cheap clothing.

Behind the production of cheap clothing such as jeans is often the poisoning of people and nature in the cotton fields. Bread for All and Fastenopfer are jointly drawing attention to this deplorable state of affairs - and are entering the second year of the ecumenical campaign "See and Act" with the jeans posters.

The two aid organizations of the national churches are thus taking a closer look at another injustice that is fostered by local consumption. Here in the north, they are informing Swiss consumers about the interrelationships and encouraging them to take a closer look when shopping. In the South, the two organizations work together to promote organic cotton cultivation and support organizations that promote decent working conditions and living wages.

A New, joint appearance and uniform logos and names (NZZ Print, LZ Print and Tagblatt Print) underline this unity. In this way, the NZZ Media Group makes it clear that it offers its customers the complete range of newspaper production services as a single unit. At the same time, the individual companies remain regionally anchored and provide the usual local service. The range of services offered by the three printing centers is supplemented by six additional production partners from the commercial and digital printing sector. This enables the group to offer comprehensive consulting and production expertise.

The Zug-based communication designer Iris Burkard conceived the Group's image and its implementation for the individual locations.

TBD takes car salon for a ride for ZVV

TBD has poked fun at the theme of this year’s Auto Salon on behalf of the Zurich Public Transport Association (ZVV), showing that the ZVV network offers more.

The current poster for the Geneva Motor Show was an opportunity for TBD, according to the press release: "A few sad, colored lines get lost on a white background. So it was obvious to contrast the poster with the dense network map of the Zurich transport association: Because there, lines connect to lines and show how the ZVV optimally links the entire greater Zurich area. Thought, done - and with a wink in the newspaper and social media on Tuesday.

The favorite brands of the Swiss

The Reader’s Digest study «European Trusted Brands 2014» shows that Swiss consumers trust domestic brands and that bad experiences spread quickly. Among the winners is Migros’ Total.

Consumers share their brand and product experiences with others - both good and bad. However, word of bad experiences spreads much faster. This is shown by the current study "European Trusted Brands 2014" by the media and market research company Reader's Digest. The representative study identifies the most trustworthy brands in various product categories - without specifying brands. In Switzerland alone, respondents this year named a total of 2545 different brands that they personally consider particularly trustworthy.

In Switzerland, many domestic brands are at the top. These include Ricola (sweets), Lindt (chocolate), Swiss Life (life insurance), Bico (mattresses), Emmi (dairy products), Coop (service stations), Elmex (toothpaste), Kuoni (tour operator) and Charles Vögele (clothing). In the laundry detergent sector, the Migros brand Total came out on top. In previous years, the international market giants Persil and Ariel had alternated in this position. The Nivea brand is a phenomenon: in all ten countries surveyed, it is number one in the skin care category. In Switzerland, Nivea is number one in both the skin care and hair care categories across all fourteen study years.

"Brand trust is a great asset for stable customer relationships," says Werner Neunzig, Managing Director of Reader's Digest Germany, Switzerland, Austria. "Credibility, transparency and reliability are the best ingredients for trust, all the more so in times when consumers can find out almost anything about a brand and the products and services behind it." For brand management and brand development, he said, it takes a creative flair to recognize what is really important to consumers.

Poor service threatens brand change

According to the survey, the best quality is important to the Swiss, but so is the company's noticeable effort to serve the customer. When consumers decide to switch brands, price increases often or very often play a role (50 percent). Even more decisive, however, is poor service (51 percent). When customers have a good experience, an average of five other people hear about it. Bad experiences, on the other hand, reach more people. Just under a quarter of Swiss respondents (23 percent) even pass on bad experiences to ten or more people.

Stämpfli Group: Further increase in sales in 2013

After a successful previous year in a difficult environment, the Stämpfli Group recorded a stable year in 2013 with an increase in turnover of 0.4 percent. Group turnover amounted to CHF 63.726 million.

Stämpfli Verlag's business developed even more strongly in the direction of digital media. This is particularly evident in an increase in sales of over 20 percent on the online legal information platform Swisslex, in which the publishing house holds a one-third stake. According to the press release, the publishing house also got off to a successful start with the new Stämpfli Buchhandlung webshop, which was launched in the middle of the year. The non-fiction sector also closed the year with a pleasing 15 percent increase in sales compared to the previous year, with the authorized biography of former Federal Councillor Elisabeth Kopp being the publishing highlight.

In the 2013 financial year, Stämpfli Publications won a number of important contracts and secured them for the long term. For example, Stämpfli is now responsible for an extensive part of the publication process chain for Depuy Synthes of the Johnson & Johnson Group. Stämpfli attributes the growth of around eight percent above the market to the strategy adopted in the mid-1990s of not only printing, but also offering all services for corporate, association and product communication. This broad range of services and products extends from communication concepts to the logistics of printed publications and the online placement and hosting of Internet solutions and mobile applications.

SRF: Gregor Meier becomes new head of news

Gregor Meier will become the new head of news and deputy editor-in-chief for television at Swiss Radio and Television. He will take over the role of head of news from Tristan Brenn, who was appointed editor-in-chief for television effective March 1, 2014.

Gregor Meier has worked for Swiss radio and television for 19 years. He was editor at "10 vor 10" from 1995 to 2004, then editor, producer and most recently deputy head of the editorial team at "Tagesschau". As a special correspondent, the 46-year-old has reported on the last three US presidential elections for SRF, among other things. Gregor Meier is expected to take up his position as Head of News and Deputy Editor-in-Chief TV in April.

Gregor Meier in a statement on his appointment as Head of News: "I am very much looking forward to this challenge. I will do my utmost to ensure that SRF's news programs and magazines are relevant, exciting and intelligently produced."

Last but not least: body heat

The other day in the icy Canadian winter: A bus station that heats up when people touch each other while waiting.

Admittedly, the topic is not ideally suited to the glorious spring weather we've been enjoying here in Germany for a few days now. And it hasn't been really frosty this time anyway. Not so in Canada: in the second largest country in the world, winters are long, cold and snowy. As a result, Canadians are always fond of warmth. Duracell, or rather the Cossette agency from Toronto, probably thought so too and prepared a bus shelter so that it could be heated. The prerequisite: the people waiting had to close the circuit by joining hands and thus connecting the two sides of the oversized waiting battery. If you believe the movie, the action not only warmed the freezing passers-by, but also their hearts. So beautiful. (hae)
