Last but not least: University accepts Wikipedia

Jimmy Wales, co-founder of Wikipedia, has been awarded an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Communication Sciences at the University of Italian Switzerland (USI). However, citing Wikipedia remains prohibited at the university.

The USI still does not accept Wikipedia citations in written work, as it emphasized in a press release. Nevertheless, it considers it appropriate to recognize the importance of a tool that has profoundly changed the way knowledge is created and shared. The Wikipedia co-founder was awarded an honorary doctorate for his contribution to "promoting the transfer of knowledge through the Internet and providing a platform for encyclopedic collaboration in different languages and cultures". The university now at least officially acknowledges Wikipedia as a helpful tool when it comes to gaining an initial overview of new subject areas. (sis)

Healthy subjects for Swiss rapeseed oil

Swiss rapeseed oil is Switzerland's most important source of edible oil. In order to present this fairly, Wapico has continued the campaign, which has now been running for six years, and focused on the target groups.

Wapico is accompanying the Swiss Rapeseed Oil Association into its seventh year and is once again surprising us with two new subjects this year. These are focused on the application and thus show the direct connection to the oil: one for professionals and one for normal consumers.

The campaign was once again photographed by Caspar Martig, as always without much retouching, but as real as possible in a rape field, according to a press release issued by the agency on Friday.

The result is two images that will be used as posters, advertisements and in many other applications for two years. A large piggyback campaign with Annabelle and Saisonküche/cuisine de saison is also planned - the new brochure will be enclosed in a print run of over 200,000 copies. This should have a direct impact on the target groups.

Responsible at Verein Schweizer Rapsöl: Hansjakob Häberli (President), Anja Ledergerber (Marketing & Communication). Responsible at Wapico: Olaf Pilleri, Jonas Steiger (consulting) René Walker (creative direction), Marie Berthold (graphics). Photos: Caspar Martig.

Comqed launches Pet Boxes

Effective immediately, all K Kiosk locations will accept empty PET beverage bottles from on-the-go consumption. This is another step in expanding consumer convenience for PET Recycling Switzerland.

To help consumers get used to the new return process, Comqed is launching a contest at newsstands. For two weeks, every customer who purchases a beverage in a PET bottle will receive a bottle tag attached to it. The highlight of the tag: It’s shaped like a PET box and, when hung on the bottle, visually shows where the bottle belongs after consumption. The only text message on the front reads: “PET recycling now available at K Kiosk.”.

To enter the contest, simply open the prize panel on the back of the card. Instant prizes include a one-franc discount on the purchase of your next PET bottle at a K Kiosk. In addition, 20 iPads can be won in the grand prize drawing. Supported by a national poster campaign, the promotion begins on May 19, 2014. Advertisements will be placed as part of the campaign.

Swisscom: Controversial purchase offer for Publigroupe

Swisscom wants to make a public purchase offer for the entire Publigroupe. The NZZ am Sonntag criticizes the telecommunications company's announcement. It argues that the Confederation is obstructing the publishers' actions.

Swisscom published a pre-announcement for a public tender offer on Friday evening. The price offered per Publigroupe share is CHF 200. This is more than the Zurich-based media group Tamedia, which is also interested in buying Publigroupe (Werbewoche.ch reported). Tamedia now wants to offer CHF 190 per share. "Our purchase offer is financially very attractive," said Swisscom spokesman Sepp Huber in the press release issued on Friday evening.

Swisscom, which says it owns half of Local.ch, built up the business together with Publigroupe and now wants to continue the success story. In order to further expand its business with online directories, the telecoms market leader would therefore prefer to have the profitable web service all to itself. On April 25, it therefore made the advertising marketer Publigroupe a non-binding purchase offer for the other Local.ch shares. Swisscom wanted to pay around CHF 230 million for this.

Publigroupe's Board of Directors did not reveal any details at the time, stating that it was taking note of the offer. The public purchase offer for the entire Publigroupe is now stepping up the pace in the battle for Local.ch.

Reaction from Publigroupe

Publigroupe continues to keep a low profile: The Board of Directors takes note of the pre-announcement announced. It will comment on both purchase offers once the respective definitive offers are available. It recommends that shareholders wait for these statements. A takeover by Swisscom would still require the approval of the Competition Commission (ComCo).

Criticism from the NZZ am Sonntag

The federal government should not interfere with the business of private publishers, headlines the NZZ am Sonntag. The article by editor-in-chief Felix E. Müller refers to media minister Doris Leuthard's accusation that Swiss publishers are too attached to the traditional business model and describes Tamedia's behavior as "courageous". But now, of all things, a state-owned company is stepping forward and wants to take over Publigroupe for itself. It is clear that the large Swisscom has the better cards in a bidding war against Tamedia. In this way, the federal government is hindering the actions of private publishers, whose innovative style it then criticizes again. (sis)

Convergent media brand for southeastern Switzerland

Following the successful implementation of the new brand strategy with Somedia, Somedia Promotion and Somedia Production, Somedia will also reposition the "Südostschweiz" label. Radio Grischa will be renamed Radio Südostschweiz.

With the opening of the new media center in Chur in the first quarter of next year, the term "Südostschweiz" will become a convergent media brand. It now encompasses the newspaper, online, radio and television sub-media. As part of this reorganization, Radio Grischa will be renamed Radio Südostschweiz.

This renaming is also necessary because the radio license which has just been definitively granted by the Federal Administrative Court relates to license area 32, which was designated as "Südostschweiz" by the Federal Office of Communications. It now also includes the canton of Glarus, where the term Grischa (Graubünden) would be inappropriate. Somedia has started work on integrating Glarus into the broadcasting area. Various technical distribution issues are still open.

The new convergent media brand is being implemented gradually. It also involves a redesign of the content and graphics of the Südostschweiz newspaper as well as new appearances for radio, TV and Suedostschweiz.ch. The editorial teams will work closely together in the new media house in the so-called News Zone and fill the convergence brand with content. Implementation will be completed in spring 2015.

Rose red stages the office chair of the future

Rosarot implemented a campaign with a product and image focus for the "Gesture" office chair from the Steelcase brand, available for the first time in Switzerland at WSA.

Steelcase conducted a global study of sitting behavior among 2,000 people and identified nine new sitting positions created by the use of smartphones, tablets and laptops. With its revolutionary technology, the "Gesture" is the first office chair to sustainably support these positions, ushering in a new era of sitting, according to a statement on Friday.

With the aim of making the "Gesture" and its advantages known in Switzerland, Rosarot implemented a comprehensive campaign for WSA that contains elements of both a product and an image campaign. The focus is on the office chair of the future, with a ballet dancer putting the advantages of the "Gesture" in perspective. With her aesthetic posture, she hints at the design of the office chair, which is inspired by the natural movements of the body, and lends emphasis to the mobility of the "Gesture". The entire campaign is in black and white, referring to the chair's elegance. Rosarot was responsible for the creation of the posters and advertisements. In addition, the agency was commissioned to design POS and direct marketing material as well as a microsite.

Responsible at Rosarot: René Karrer (creative direction), Andreas Steiner (concept, text), Mariana Navarro (consulting), Yolanda Lopez (art direction), Sven von Osten (graphics). Responsible at WSA: Erwin Fischer (Owner), Alain Fischer (Managing Director), Elisabeth Brand (Head of Marketing), Sarah Ryffel (Marketing).

Mediarena attracts media industry to Kaufleuten

Under the motto «The Future is so yesterday,» Goldbach CEO Michi Frank hosted the 13th Goldbach Mediarena at the Kaufleuten in Zurich. Speakers included Roger Schawinski and best-selling author Anitra Eggler.

Now in its 13th year, the Goldbach Group offered representatives from the communications, media and marketing industries an event that is both an information and networking platform and not only informs about trends and developments, but anticipates them. Once again this year, international speakers presented controversial views and what is now their vision of the modern communications society. The event, moderated by journalist and rhetoric trainer Dani Nieth, was thus a kind of must-attend event for all those who want to be on the pulse of the times and not run the risk of being "so yesterday".

Dani-Nieth

Before founding Net Range MMH, the pioneer in Connected TV and largest independent provider of global Smart TV portal solutions, in 2009, Jan Wendt worked for six years as Vice President Motorsport for the leading sports rights agency Sportfive and for more than three years as Commercial Director in Formula 1. He started the series of presentations with the topic Linear TV is so yesterday, long live Linear TV.

Thomas Schwetje, Member of the Executive Board and Head of Marketing at Coop, is responsible for brand management including advertising and media for the Coop umbrella brand as well as the various Coop own brands. He is also responsible for the advertising marketing of the Coop Press and the Point of Sales as well as the entire Customer Relationship Management of Coop. His topic was: TV advertising is "so yesterday". He showed the path that Coop has taken in TV advertising since the Coop Studio of the 1970s.

Radio and media pioneer, journalist and entrepreneur Roger Schawinski was CEO of the German private TV station Sat1, founded among others the consumer magazine "Kassensturz", the first Swiss private radio station Radio 24 and the first national private TV station Tele24. He is currently managing director of Radio 1 and Radio 105 and his contribution was entitled: Stand alone radios are so yesterday. He recalled his beginnings 35 years ago with Radio 24, when the radio offering was much smaller - but in terms of craftsmanship, he emphasized, radio making has hardly changed since then.

Gerd Leonhard is a well-known futurist, author and CEO of The Futures Agency with roots in the music business. In 1985 he received the "Quincy Jones Award" and subsequently spent ten years as a profile guitarist, composer and producer in the USA. Towards the end of the last millennium, he was infected by the Internet virus, which led him to the management of various Internet start-ups in San Francisco. He asked: The future of media and marketing between Big Data and Artificial Intelligence: humans are so ... yesterday? He then showed the "wicked problems" that the interaction between humans and machines will present us with in the future.

Anitra Eggler describes herself as a digital therapist with a love of the web and a bestselling author with a passion for writing. She inspired the audience as a captivating speaker who doesn't mince her words. She provided stressed-out work ants with relief with her contribution Manage-ment by E-Mail is so yesterday, because, according to her thesis: "E-Mail makes you stupid, sick and poor" and "Only slaves are constantly reachable". She held up a mirror to those in attendance, pointing out that we allow ourselves to be seduced and led by the sheer possibilities of technology instead of using it to our advantage.

The closing presentation belonged to the congenial duo Christiane Fimpel and Phil Binkert, both owners of 3D-Model, she an idea accelerator and he a form and object expert, who devoted themselves to tangible topics: The next industrial revolution is so yesterday. The presentation showed where 3D printers are already being used today and provided a glimpse into the future of this modern manufacturing process: from spare parts for the home to organs from the 3D printer. Everything will be possible in the future.
