Advertising pressure: almost all media on the rise

With the exception of teletext, advertising intensity across all media has increased compared to the previous month. This is shown in the May edition of the Goldbach Index (Gemi) for advertising intensity in the overall market and in electronic media.

Teletext lost a further index point 55 (56) and thus recorded a slow but steady decline in advertising pressure, while all other media showed a positive trend.

Advertising pressure for TV rose by one index point to 647 (646), radio recorded an increase of four 418 (414) points and Internet seven 738 (731) points. Digital out of home (DOOH) remains the frontrunner, with advertising pressure increasing by a full nine index points to 758 (749) compared to the previous month.

In comparison, the overall market remained stable at 236 (236) index points, while the electronic media gained three index points to 648 (645).

Concern about job cuts at St. Galler Tagblatt

The St. Galler Tagblatt has to cut ten jobs for economic reasons. The Syndicom trade union and the Impressum professional association fear negative effects on the editorial team and the quality of the newspaper network.

As of July 7, the St. Galler Tagblatt and its regional editions will be published with a joint jacket section consisting of only two instead of the current four volumes, as the readership was informed on Friday. Less volume also means fewer editors. The announced job cuts would be devastating for the editorial team and jeopardize the journalistic quality of the newspaper association, according to a statement from Syndicom on Monday. Unreplaced departures mean that all the work will have to be done by the remaining editorial staff. Impressum, the largest journalists' organization in Switzerland, appeals to the NZZ Group to take responsibility and calls for the job cuts to be abandoned. The job cuts are in blatant contradiction to the NZZ Group's announced willingness to invest in journalistic quality. (SDA)

Wirz: New spots for Feldschlösschen

«Feldschlösschen Brings Switzerland Together» is the communication concept behind Switzerland’s largest beer brand. The new commercials from Wirz show that Feldschlösschen also brings together barbecue and soccer fans.

In the new films, the campaign also focuses on those moments when people become particularly aware of their emotional bond with each other: In the "BBQ" spot, sparks begin to fly between two protagonists as they barbecue together with friends. And in two films on the current topic of "soccer," the feeling of connection is found in the shared anticipation of the World Cup and in the enthusiasm for the Swiss team that spreads to everyone.

The films were realized by Wirz in cooperation with Markenfilm and the German director Benjamin Brettschneider. The films will be broadcast from mid-May 2014.

Observer Nature with new management

Beobachter Natur magazine will be published under new management from July 2014. Journalist Julia Hofer and art director Michael Adams will take over the management of the magazine together. Both future editorial managers already work for Beobachter Natur.

Both future editorial directors are already working at Beobachter Natur. Beobachter editor-in-chief Andres Büchi is convinced that this internal solution is the best possible successor to the previous editorial director Peter Ackermann: "Julia Hofer is an outstanding journalist and Michael Adams is an extremely creative designer with broad experience in magazine and newspaper design."

Julia Hofer studied art history and has been working for Beobachter Natur for around five months. Her previous positions were at Keystone Press and the women's magazine Annabelle. In 2012, she received the Zurich Journalism Prize for a report commissioned by Annabelle. Julia Hofer will be responsible for the content of Beobachter Natur in future.

Michael Adams studied communication design in Trier and then worked as a press photographer and art director for the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the Tagesspiegel in Berlin and the Basler Zeitung, among others, before joining Beobachter Natur in 2009. He has received several international awards for his newspaper designs. Michael Adams is responsible for the visual design of the magazine.

The new co-managing editor will replace the previous editorial director Peter Ackermann, who led the magazine for the last three years and resigned in April of this year. Axel Springer Schweiz AG and Beobachter would like to thank Peter Ackermann for his great commitment and hard work. Beobachter Natur is published ten times a year by Axel Springer and reaches around 230,000 readers with a certified circulation of over 30,000 copies.

Allegation of plagiarism makes football heads turn red

The advertising agency's new campaign for Sporttip shows people with football heads. The agency Zürich Tokio thinks: The idea is stolen. The advertising agency rejects the accusations.

The Sporttip campaign is featured in the current print edition of Werbewoche. "Whether young or old, banker or rocker - for the next few weeks, everyone will only have football on their minds. This is also illustrated by the key visual from the advertising agency's booth. The currently highly visible campaign advertises the betting options at Sporttip."

fussballkoepfe-2

People with football heads - the idea sounds familiar to Daniel Donati, Creative Director at the agency Zürich Tokio. Too familiar, he thinks. The current Sporttip campaign is a "nice, almost cheeky plagiarism from the advertising agency". Zürich Tokio had already used the idea in 2008 for Radio 11, which was launched on the occasion of the European Championship. The subjects were used as TV commercials, posters and flyers.

Confronted with the accusations, Reto Dürrenberger, Managing Director and Partner of the advertising agency Werbeanstalt, is surprised. He made a detailed statement to Werbewoche.ch about the two campaigns:

"We always have our creative concepts checked in advance to see whether a similar concept has already been realized, and not just in the same industry. We didn't discover these subjects on search engines or in the archives of the usual communication portals. And we couldn't, because this campaign cannot be found with the criteria "football" and "in/as head". Try it yourself. The Zurich Tokyo campaign was realized six years ago for a small radio station. The agency in question used well-known musicians who were only recognizable thanks to their hairstyles because their faces were replaced by a football. The resolution "Rhythm of Football" - English and not German - only makes a secondary reference to football. Our "Football in the head" campaign for Sporttip, on the other hand, visualizes 1:1 what happens to the Swiss during the World Cup: They only have football on their minds. Of course, we very much regret this similarity. But we are also not aware of any guilt. These are two different concepts that are very different in terms of creative idea, target group, industry and area of application/reach."

As always with accusations of plagiarism, readers are called upon to form their own opinions. If football is not the only thing on your mind at the moment.

Dynamite: von Rotz - quite outrageous

Dynamite takes the Rotz pastry shop and bakery's promise of indulgence to the extreme with a provocative campaign.

The sweet temptations and baked goods from von Rotz are appreciated far beyond the cantonal borders of Zug. This is no coincidence. With carefully selected ingredients, the highest quality standards and sophisticated creations, von Rotz also delights discerning connoisseurs. With the new branch with café in Lindencham, the chosen path is being continued and the maxim "genuine and good" is being lived and implemented more convincingly than ever.

Largest show production in Switzerland

The new branch in Lindencham is also the new, state-of-the-art production site for all von Rotz products. The special thing about it is that a large part of the 1,500 square meters of production area can be viewed and you can watch the confectioners, pastry chefs and bakers directly at work and see how "real and good" things are made. This is unique in Switzerland in this size.

Ready for the future

The new store, including café, production and event space, is another milestone in the dynamic von Rotz story. And when you look at the operation in Lindencham, there is really only one logical answer to the question of future prospects: genuine and good. The campaign is made up of posters, mailings, on-site activities and the website Real-from-rotz.ch together. A second wave of campaigns is planned for the fall.

Last but not least: The beards have to go

If you believe this New Zealand campaign, sooner or later even the last beard will be in trouble.

It is well known that the beard has experienced a considerable revival in the recent past. There is no advertising agency in which at least half of the employees do not celebrate facial hair. From an aesthetic (and practical) point of view, this is an understandable trend. But as with everything, the rule applies here too: at some point, you've seen it. Because at the latest when everyone looks the same, trendsetters want to get away from the uniformity. Hipsters, for example, are acutely threatened with extinction: "The new style ideal is the normalo", recently stated Constatin Seibt at his Visit to Mrs. Gerold's garden fixed.

According to razor manufacturer Schick - as Wilkinson Sword is known in the USA, Asia and Australia - the time has come to say goodbye to beards. It's understandable: when body hair is in fashion, the shaving industry is in the doldrums. Y&R Aucklan communicated this concern on behalf of Schick New Zealand with a campaign that attracted worldwide attention and caused a stir. As it is so well crafted, it can be forgiven for leaving some room for interpretation when it comes to the message. "Free your skin" is the slogan. Whether and to what extent the wearers are disturbed by the cuddly face creatures remains somewhat open. Do you really want to shave off the furry appendages? Never mind. (hae)

Coundco: Underground trail developed for Valora

To promote the six new Valora retail locations in the new Löwenstrasse station at Zurich Central Station, Coundco developed the QR code trail.

In the cross-media POS campaign, commuters scan QR codes at three of the new points of sale to win an instant prize that can be redeemed directly on site. The underground trail is consistently designed for commuting mobile users with QR codes, a mobile landing page and mobile couponing.

The cross-city link at Zurich main station is served by the new Löwenstrasse station. This not only offers commuters a direct connection but also provides them with the most important everyday necessities. Valora opened six new outlets in the new Löwenstrasse station last Monday: Two K Kiosks, one Avec, one Spettacolo, one Spettacolino and one Le Crobag

Cross-media POS communication

Coundco and Valora have jointly developed a QR code scavenger hunt entitled HB Underground Trail, on which commuters can discover these new points of sale and win attractive prizes worth CHF 50,000 between June 16 and 29, 2014.
The user journey links the offline touchpoint with the customer at the POS with the social media presence of the sales concepts: customers are given flyers in the sales outlets asking them to scan QR codes in three of the six new Valora outlets. After each scan, the user lands on a mobile landing page on which the user's scans are tracked via Facebook Connect. After the third scan, the user is asked to recommend their preferred location on Facebook. This Facebook share spreads the new locations via the participants' private social networks.

The share is also counted as a definitive entry into the main prize draw and is additionally rewarded with an instant prize, which is displayed as a coupon directly on the user's mobile phone. The user can collect the instant prize directly from the point of sale. The purchase of the instant prize is confirmed by the sales staff with a simple click on the user's smartphone.

Mobile development with optimized sharability

Since QR codes are scanned with smartphones, Coundco consistently developed the landing page as a shareness-optimized mobile page: The domain Trail.valora.com is optimized for sharing on Facebook, Twitter and Google+. When the URL is integrated into a tweet, a #TwitterCard is created that contains the Valora logo, campaign visual and text as well as a separately labeled URL. In addition, the campaign hashtag #HBUnderground is automatically included.

Sabine Hauptmann leaves Women in Business

There is a personnel change in the editorial office of the business publication for women, *Women in Business*. Sabine Hauptmann is leaving the publication to pursue new opportunities.

Sabine Hauptmann joined the publishing house in January 2011, six months after the magazine was launched, and has made a significant contribution to its successful positioning as the leading business title for women in professional careers. She was also jointly responsible for the organization and moderation of the successful "Women's Talk" event series. Due to differences of opinion regarding the journalistic direction of the title, Sabine Hauptmann and the publisher have decided by mutual agreement to end their collaboration. Her successor will be announced in due course, according to a press release.
